Yes, I'm aware of that. I was hoping someone would give me a short simplified version of the 8+ posts above (people who've already read them) without my having to do that; I'm not that interested :p

Sorry, I haven't been playing close attention. That part caught my eye, so I responded.

most people on this section of the forums have a ipod touch4 so theyll cleary find ipod touch better otherwise they would be on zune forum:cool:

Exactly. Every devices has its strength and weakness (for example, Zune HD has no support for wireless n. A deal brealker. (And does it support lyric?)). For me the most important is not "how many clicks" but "how easy it is". On paper it looks like 6 clicks is much more complicated than 2 clicks but in reality I don't find I'm annoyed with it. Whatever people like to boast, in the end it's just a second more. That's all.

Also Zune HD still can't play FLAC make it useless for a lot of PC users. At least on my iPT I can zumocast my FLAC library all day long.

I still find it funny that people gush how music-friendly and high quality the Zune HD experience is and it still doesn't have any FLAC support. Or even volume control buttons - people castigated the iPod Touch three years ago for not having them. Bleh.

Zumocast is a killer app too. It really does just work.

I know that that is a competitive advantage. I know that that is why the iPod Touch is by far outselling the Zune. I am addressing the product itself, not the apps it can run. :)

well that doesnt make sense.

The apps are a huge part of the ipod touch and it is the reason it is outselling the zune. So i don't understand why the app store for each device shouldnt be taken into consideration.

The zune is a great music player infact i heard that the music quality on a zune is much better then an ipod touch but people want more value and features for the cash, you can't even tell the difference in music quality through those crappy earbuds anyway

I think the lack of reliable gapless on the Zune is a far bigger issue. Lossless formats are a huge waste of space on portable devices with such limited storage as these Flash-based players. I would convert to LAME -V2 at the highest even if all my lossless stuff wasn't WMA and FLAC and the Touch supported those formats. If iTunes really wanted to be useful, it would support conversion of lossless files of various formats on demand to lossy formats while syncing, instead of offering to convert everything to 128 Kbps AAC, which is just stupid. The Zune software at least allows you to set a threshold below which it won't down-convert. With iTunes, I have to do it manually, maintaining parallel "Lossless" and "Lossy" folders, the latter containing lossy recodings of the former.

The Zune HD may not have dedicated physical volume buttons, but its single media control button that brings up a full set of overlay controls is better in some ways. The Touch equivalent for the transport controls is to double-click the Home button and swipe right, which is strange and awkward in comparison, about as intuitive as dragging a floppy disk to the trash to eject it. :D For my purposes, I give the slight edge to the Zune HD here, as I don't care about being able to change the volume without looking. But these are minor details; once you learn about them, you deal. I'm more concerned with things that are fundamentally wrong. For the Touch, the main thing for me is the stupid "Artists" list that shows "Artists" instead of "Album Artists", which makes it useless for browsing due to pollution from all the track artists on soundtracks, musicals, and other "Various Artists" stuff. The Zune HD at least got that right.

I think they are addressing how the Zune has an easier way to get to the music from the start menu than the Touch.

Zune HD died today with the release of Zune 4.7 update. Suddenly it was full of Windows Phone 7 apps and an error message for Zune HD apps. Supposedly, MS is working on a fix. ;)

I love my Zune HD with zune pass subscription. Sometimes I think I would rather an iPod touch just so I can play games and run apps on it as well, but I enjoy the music experience so much on the Zune HD that I don't think the iPod touch could replace the music experience I get on my Zune HD.

However, if Apple does start a subscription based service that is competitive with / similar to Zune Pass, I will consider switching.

The streaming music apps are pretty useless to me because I mostly use my Zune at my desk and in my car where I can't stream music.

Apple doesn't have to. Rhapsody, Napster, Rdio, and Mog all have subscription services and apps for iPod Touch. (I switched from a Zune HD + Zune Pass to an iPhone + Rhapsody.)

I might check these out but I don't see them being as streamlined as how I use my Zune. i.e. I plug my zune in, it syncs everything automatically, and then I can unplug it and I'm done. Is it that simple with rhapsody as well?

And no I'm not being a smartass either...truly curious but I don't want to buy a $300 iPod to find out how streamlined the process is.

Also one thing with zune pass is 10 free downloads a month.

The lack of music apps - Pandora, Last.fm, iheartradio, Rhapsody, Napster - for a device marketed as a media player is pretty pathetic. The same applies to video apps.

Sort of. There's no desktop software for the Rhapsody iPhone app. But playlists you create on Rhapsody.com will show up on the iPhone app, and vice versa. So, really, it syncs without any wires.

But then if you want to download that playlist (or song, album, whatever) to play it offline (as opposed to streaming) you have to tap a download button in the Rhapsody app on your iPhone. Not a huge hassle. I prefer it because I hardly ever sync my device. (I hardly ever synced my Zune either. I just downloaded right from the Marketplace on the device. Rhapsody is better at this experience.)

True. But if you're only using Rhapsody with one device, it's $5 cheaper. (I always forgot to use my Zune song credits anyway, again, because I hardly ever used the Zune desktop software.)

Anandtech ran RMAA tests that showed without the shadow of the doubt that iPod Touch sound quality beats Zune HD's.

It really amuses me how the geekish types, auto-proclaimed "audiophiles" will trash talk anything with Apple on it, without checking their facts beforehand.

Zune HD

The Zune just sounds better. No joke. Audio playback is pretty impressive. The UI is crappy, sticks and gets sluggish. Not to say the ipod touch doesn't, but at least anytime I've had an ipod inquiry there is a wealth of knowledge shared by apple geniuses and online forums... Zune... not so much. Plus I had to upload WIN 7 on my iMac to even use the zune software. That in itself was a pain. If you own a mac, enjoy apple, and aren't a complete audiophile I'd go iTouch. If you wanna try something new and are willing to take on the pains of a poorly implemented and abandoned (I mean they have 7 apps in their store, c'mon) then take on a love hate relationship with a Zune. I sold mine within 2 weeks of impulse buying it btw.

I've had an iPod Touch for about three years now.

It's been a good investment indeed - but if you plan on buying it, get it at Best Buy.

I have been able to upgrade from the iPod 2G to the 3G, and recently to the 4G, thanks to their warranty, so they're definitely a good source to buy from. :)

But it's really your choice. XD

I'm not trying to decide. I know I'm getting a Touch, I just want others opinions.
