not all info has been released yet. but, from what i've seen it warrants attention. i was expecting some negative feedback - duh, its an apple forum. i just wanted to share with you all nonetheless.

yea fair enough, im just saying.. HD on a device that small?? nope.

the UI looks takky but who knows maybe it will sell well!

thanks for sharing.

the ui on the zune was fast and snappy and i liked it alot. and there is nothing wrong with holding a hd video and displaying it on a hd tv...in fact i think many would appreciate that kind of capability. download it for on the road and watch it at your friends place on their hd tv. i'm sorry, but myself being in the military i know this kind of ability would be a favorite for many.

Competition is great. The better products competing companies put out, the better products Apple is forced to put out, and vice versa. So I'm glad the Zune is better. If Apple doesn't respond then maybe I get a Zune.

I have a funny feeling that Apple will respond though. Just a hunch ;)

i love my ipod touch to death...but, if things keep going the way they are with the Zune HD (Tegra NVDIA chip, OLED screen, super quick UI) ...I may be trading in my ipod touch for a Zune HD! i really am impressed with Microsoft on the new Zune...

http://www.engadget.com/2009/06/24/zune-hd-video-hands-on-quickie/

Look, it can have the most powerful chip in the world in it, with the best screen and the best hardware design, but that doesn't matter. What do you do with hardware? You run software. And what is the Zune HD going to run? A modified version of Windows Mobiles 6.5, and we know how great that is.

The iPhone and the Touch are successes because of OS X (they run a highly tweaked version of OS X desktop) and that's why they are amazing and sell well. The same with Macs, and the Classic iPod OS. Why do touchscreen blackberries and LG copycats suck? They have bad software. Why is the Palm Pre selling well and having great reviews? The software that palm made for the device. It's execution not specs that matter.

It's a joke calling it HD. The screen resolution is lower than the iPhone/iPod Touch.

Have any of you Zune fanboys been to any store that sells electronics of any kind including drug stores? You will see Alarm clocks with iPod docks, speaker systems with iPod docks and CD players with integrated CD players with iPod docks.

I even saw a Sony iPod speaker system.

Thank you Apple fanboys for being so predictable. 4 or 5 posts saying "HD at that size? No way!" before the thing is even out, and before all the details are known.

Can there be no other quality products from manufacturers other than Apple? Is everything MS does such a dog turd of a product that you pre-judge it before you have all the information?

Maybe its the 3% marketshare that Apple have that makes Mac users feel threatened, so any time a competing product is launched they feel the need to belittle it, lest their world grow ever smaller.

Yeah MS is kind of playing fast and loose with the HD tag.

It's HD because it can output full HD video to your tv but it would be nice if the the HD meant the screen was HD.

Yeah a portable device with a screen big enough for 720p

its good that the UI is snappy, that is the main thing that people will judge it by. looks to simplistic IMO.

i can understand that the HD on the run would be great, having it on a big screen TV in actual HD is a big move up in the market, especially for a hand held device... but you need to think about the power in that little device, on a massive TV you will see the inferior quality of the device. that is a big let down to me (being fussy about quality, as im sure many others are).

Yeah a portable device with a screen big enough for 720p

you would be looking at a MacBook right there.. (1280x800 in 13inch screen). that is WAY to big for a hand held device type thing.

I should have put a rolls eyes smiley at the end of my post, you entirely missed the sarcasm.

...you gotta point OP

i know its easy to tout the sheer volume of the app store - but, how many are actual worthwhile apps? i like to compare the app store with the wii market. something with mass market appeal is soiled with companies and developers alike trying to cash in on the hype and saturation - leading to crappy ports and half assed coding and development. not saying everything microsoft puts out in their market will be solid gold - far from it. but, to say the volume itself isn't exactly a fair one.

you sadly got a point in a certain percentage of the apps :( ...but no matter what, the Apple SDK seems to kick arse right now, and is going strong... Microsoft is too far back. I only see the advantage if there will be a Zune (Microsoft) type of phone coming out in the marketplace, to help the Microsoft gain more exposure for app developers. For one, they could make a "zune phone", and/or the Zune HD have Microsoft Office run perfectly - I could see that getting people of the couches, because right now, Apple is in & exciting, and Microsoft is.....ugh Microsoft. Let's be honest, Microsoft should be looking for a sleek phone to kick the BlackBerry in innovativeness like the iPhone did 2 years ago. "Here's a twinkle in the star," They still have the corporate world in computers, so why not create a true 'sleek innovative smart phone'? ...Beat the BlackBerry, compete against the iPhone 3Gs, then beat it(or really give a run for its' money) in the corporate world with Microsoft Office running flawless. Maybe throw in a mini projector for PowerPoint, and Excel Graphs, Word documents, who knows. Quick email on Outlook with all contacts/calenders/etc, and maybe an innovative feature for conference calls. ...I know, there is a line, and I went over it :p

Let me stopping trying to talk future blah blah blah, the real issue, is Apple makes a great SDK for the app developers. They all seem to grasp it...just like most Apple products ;)

Remember, the iPod Touch is younger generation(late teens to 20s) and the Zune HD is trying to compete against that?..that will be tough, or are they trying to gain a larger market? >>> if they are looking for a more mature market create a smartphone!

No matter what, I do hope Zune HD 'makes a running' & competes because those Microsoft boys are going to be left in the dust when the Apple releases the next iPod Touch.

CrackBookPro:cool:

I won't buy this HD thing. it is pointless to talk about 1080p whatever on small screen because we don't really pay attention to watch that. in my case, I don't watch movie with my iphone or ipod touch. TV shows, music video, podcast are accepted because when playing time is longer, your eyes will be easily tired to stare at small screen. zune tang HD still doesn't have game. so I won't buy it anyway.

What do you expect on an Apple-oriented website?

It has the HD moniker because the Tegra chipset can output HD video (and supports HDMI). There's no reason to have a true HD display on a screen that size. Your eye cannot resolve the DPI.

it outputs 1080p thanks to the tegra gpu. also xbox live will add 1080p streaming to zune hd

http://www.engadget.com/2009/06/01/xbox-live-gets-live-tv-streaming-netflix-browsing/

WRONG!!!

It outputs 720p and only if you have a special dock with you, which is sold separately.

http://www.zune.net/en-us/mp3players/zunehd/default.htm

The link you posted only mentions 1080p for the Xbox.
I think you misunderstand what the Zune hardware is and the Zune Video store for Xbox is.

The reason they used the HD name is not just the HD video aspect, but the fact it has a HD Radio built in.

No further details have been announced - however, what is to say it won't output the HD content onto your hd tv?

I suggest google.com, it helped me find the above out very quickly.

Definatly has my interest. Now if they can get rid of the really stupid and unproffesional looking UI, for gods sake the words don't even fit on the screen, and give some details on what 3rd parties can do with this development wise if anything. Definate potential here if MS doesn't balls it up.

I don't think the Zune (HD or otherwise) really can compete against the iPod Touch/iPhone.

Not until MS wake up and actually start to distribute it outside of the US.

None of the stuff I care about has been demoed yet. Apps, and the browser. Show me that, music and video are old news in 2009. Its a given the device can do that, show us some unique stuff.

....still waiting for something groundbreaking.

I don't want to "need" an Xbox to interface with this for video playback. Eventually we're going to get small HDMI or comparable outputs on these devices. Right now it's too early and flash memory is too small in most cases (32GB)

I cannot downlplay the app store. I have Mac apps that i'm waiting for iPhone/iPod Touch apps for. Sure if you're a young buck then there's not a whole lot of apps that may appeal to you but some of use with family need a bunch of stuff to keep the home machine well oiled.

I need a bit more than movies.

It's not too early for a small connector on these things. Apple already have a dock to component cable, which given a more powerful iPod, would probably work. Plus they have a mini display port. All it would take is the right adaptor for your TV.

Unfortunately, I believe Apple would shy away from using the mini display port, as they could simply sell a series of new ipod cables instead, thus making more money.
