this looks cool. And I feel sorry for all the people who think it is ugly just because microsoft designed it. grow up people. yes microsoft has made ugly products, but so has apple. In fact, apple uses the most hideous stands on all of their monitors/imacs.

Right, no one thinks its ugly because they dont like the style. Its all because of who made it.

Notice I said I feel sorry for all the people who think it's ugly because microsoft made it. I didn't say that everyone here thinks it's ugly because microsoft made it.

thank you and come again when you have something that makes more sense to say.

Tell me, who where u directing your comment at then? How can you possibly sort those who dont like the look because of the styling from those who dont like it because of MS?

Sounds like you were just trying play the high horse game.

How about it's ugly because it's a square copy of a iPod touch, lacking any kind of style and looking as plain as possible.

Apple only sell audio files (little or no product differentiation?), and if they raise the price or screw their customers, the customers can and will will buy from another supplier. There's nothing that can stop them; they can still play their music that they bought, they can still play another other music through iTunes, etc. Thus, when there is little or no product differentiation, no barriers between competitors, then it's an oligopoly. Thus the customer is able to purchase music from another supplier

Also funny thing about that is that the big difference between iTunes and another online music distributor (Amazon for example) WAS price and DRM or no DRM. For the most part Amazon was .89 and Apple was .99. This was so Amazon could undercut Apple (good strategy). And Amazon was DRM Free while as Apple was not. Apple wanted to go DRM-Free and finally, after being coerced got permission from the music companies. To go DRM-free Apple had to raise the price of popular music 30%!, this could have been a big win for Amazon because then they would have had a 66% cost advantage. But instead they dumbly raised their prices also, so now all the people that would have bought the cheaper music from Amazon (like me) are just going to either go illegal again or keep going with Apple.

The choice to go with another company is based on price ad convenience, if there is no or an insignificant price difference then people with go with convenience.

Thus Apple scored a major win with this but customers suffered a major loss. And we ca convince enough people to go with illegal services then the prices might lower again as sales drop.

Which reminds me, which is now the best P2P network for music, I have not done illegal downloading since Kazaa:rolleyes:

This is sarcasm, right? You're stating that this:

Is uglier than these:

I use my displays 8+ hours a day for work/design/graphics/entertainment, it's one of the most important aspects on my machine. They sit on my desk 24/7, my clients see them, I see them, as such I'd like the functionality to be on par with form. In this Apple succeeds.

I would not really see any of those 'stands' look better than any of the others besides maybe one or two they are all good looking to me.

Never said they were "ugly" or not, just commenting on someone's remarks that Apple's display stands are "hideous".

I love these Windows/Mac wars...

The HP's looks like Apple's, only a little more wider at the base.

I have an HP at work, and now the Dells have them - little holders in the base.

I use mine to hold pads of Post-It notes...

Others at work use theirs to hold pens and glue sticks.

Apple doesn't have holders in their displays stands.

As usual, less features for more money...

:D

lol love it... Personally, I appreciate the design of the stand as it has a counter balance "horseshoe" weight in the base allowing the stand itself to take up less desktop space.

Pros:
- built in camera, integrated non-obtrusive controls, speakers, USB connectivity, little/no wait for display to warm up, LED backlighting/glass/aluminum and mercery free hardware produces less e-waste

Cons (and these are huge to me as a designer);
- glossy screen, no HDCP, many reviews have stated the cords are too short to each a Mac Pro, no FireWire on the back

Due to these I use my 23" Display quite often. Apple needs to release a matte display for PROfessionals for the PRO line.

I use an HP screen at work too. Never thought of using it as a storage bin! I'll have to try it, my partner is going to think I've flipped!

I hate monitors without those little holders. I always store crap in my Dell one at work.

why don't you think about how exactly I was directing it at people instead of responding to me just for the sake of it?

I'd tell you how, but I don't think you'd understand.

Really?

Let me give you a hypothetical:
I have 50gb of music. Being a musician, i like to carry all of my music with me at once. I have a long flight ahead and stopped by walmart to pick up two movies on blu-ray. I put them in my pc (because apple hasnt figured out blu-ray yet) and rip them to 1280x720 avi files. I would like to play these, in HD, without digging my laptop out of my carry-on. How does you iphone solve this problem? It cant even hold my music collection. This is why the zune hd (if it really is hd after all, nobody really knows) is a good idea.
You can hate it all you want just because it doesnt have an apple on it, but that doesnt make it an inferior product. Im certain that if apple annouced an ipod hd that looked exactly like the zune hd everyone here would be going on and on about how awesome it is.

Really... with a 3" screen.. or 4" screen.. whatever, the difference between HD and non-HD is moot. There would be no obvious difference with this small a screen, except your battery life would take a hit.

On a side note: Being a musician myself, I never understood why someone would need to carry around 20-60,000 songs... at once. At one time I carried around 10k and never listened to 2/3rds of the songs. IMO: I like smaller sizes (for music) because it allows to me to be selective about the songs I want to listen to that day, week, month... While it IS cool to have your entire library at your disposal, I personally find it cumbersome at the same time.

ditto. I agree. There is no point in carrying around your whole library all the time, especially considering how quickly I get tired of songs.

I think most people just like to carry around all their songs just for the sake of it. They feel like they conquered their media or something and get a high off it.

*waits for replies by people explaining why they need all their music*

Not to mention nothing has shown us that this Zune HD thing has more storage capacity then the iPod Touch. It could be a flash based player and not a micro-drive one.

Basically, pure speculation at this point. It's not even sure this Zune HD will even be able to do what that guy was saying his iPhone can't.

Ignorant consumers like yourself annoy me to no end. To make such blatant flaming with little insight on the product itself and shamelessly making a horrible attempt on piggy backing on microsoft ads to try and appear funny with little relevance is even more pathetic.

Let me ask you this... honestly... when you ask someone if they have a PMP what do you say??? Do you say hey... do you have a Zune? Do you have an MP3 player? Do you have a Casio?? What if someone asks you the same question?? What do they say?? I bet 7-8 out of 10 they ask if you have an iPod. iPod is synonymous with MP3 players now. Whether you like Apple, or not, it doesn't matter. MP3 players have come to be known has iPods.. regardless of whether they are or are not.. iPods. This type of brand recognition is difficult to penetrate... (which is why Apple has still not made a huge penetration in the PC arena).

Being a musician, I was like that for a while. I had a 30g, then a 60g trying to fill as much as possible. I considered myself a collector of songs, but frankly I didn't even like most of them... I just had them for "novelty's" sake. I used to buy albums.. when I only really liked one or two songs ( I had an OCD thing for a while about having to have a complete album)...

Well,at least you got one thing right.

How many people here who don't like it, don't like the look soley because its made by MS?

Also, how would you even know without making stupid assumptions about people on this site?

Even more evidence that this is not a monopoly but a oligopoly. In an oligopoly, competition tend to try to differentiate their products so that they can attract their customers.

Oh, and about the DRM, Apple didn't have a choice until earlier this year (see Jobs' open letter to the music industry). But now that's gone, we'll see how that works out.

As for the different price points, several analysts are predicting a drop in sales, which would not be the case should this be a monopoly.

I would not really see any of those 'stands' look better than any of the others besides maybe one or two they are all good looking to me.

You should put more emphasis on that.

I'd say they're different; Apple's stand is a single piece of machined aluminium; HP's look plastic (they might not be plastic, but they sure look like it). Also it's the simplicity of the design—the streamlined curve, nothing else protuding the base, etc.

I have an HP at work, and now the Dells have them - little holders in the base.

I use mine to hold pads of Post-It notes...

Well, I'd gladly sacrifice the Post-it tag holder for a better looking stand, but that's me.

Isn't this thread about the Zune? Anyway, they gotta do a lot more than that to impress me. Seriously. The First Gen Zune has a reputation MS seriously has to ditch. They need to rename it or something. What are they thinking?

I have downloaded over a hundred apps for my iPhone and iPod touch. Want to know how many I have found useful? two. Tweetie and Things.

Want to know what features attract me to a personal media player? screen size and battery life. I can't sit through a whole film watching it on my iPod nano, nor on the iPod classic. The screen on my iPhone is great, but I won't watch a movie on it since that would kill the battery. The only time the screen is good for watching videos on is when I'm on a long flight, and even then I will probably not since I'd need the battery once I landed. I would definitely get a Zune to watch movies on for airplane trips, or to listen to music while jogging or riding my bike.

One word: Pandora.

That ONE app puts the Touch above any Zune. Add on Last.fm, iheartradio (which gives you the best FM and AM stations in the country) and the ability to make free phone calls with Skype and Truphone and you have an absolute Zune murdering device. I've read your posts on this story and you obviously have an extreme bias and some kind of "agenda" to recommend the Zune. Weird stuff.

I was thinking the same thing... I've never thought the Zune to be quite the compelling device. Played with one for ~10 minutes... I thought it would be fun to play with, but it got old really fast. Thought the device itself was weird.
