Microsoft continues to prove how good they are at burning money on failed projects. They need to give it up, the Zune is awful and no one is buying it.
The Zune is hardly a failed product, nor awful.

One thing MS could do though is work with Skype or a VOIP service to make the Zune into a free VOIP phone. So you could be on any wireless internet connection and make VOIP calls. That would hurt the competition greatly.
Might even push Apple to allow VOIP when you're on the net with iPhone.
Can you plug it into any pc and drag&drop mp3s etc straight onto it?
That's the first feature I'm looking for if I was buying a player - I've never owned an ipod, and I've got a feeling I can't do that with them?
No you cant, neither with the iphone, and granted this is a bummer for me too, I dislike it a lot.
fair enough, I can see your point there.Completely crazy - I'll stick to whoever sells me the cheapest flash stick with a headphone socket then![]()
It's not an awful product, it's just not a very good one, it's a rather bad prodcut. And it's not a failed product, it's very nearly a failed product, it has a measly 4% while the ipod has 71% and sandisk 11%. Things at ms and zune are as ugly as balmer's bold head recently.
But seriously....why is the Zune so bad? I just want to see what poeple find negative about it.
Hmm, I didn't really have a point!fair enough, I can see your point there.
is the xbox a failed product? Took damn near 7 years to turn a profit and to gain a foothold. MS has money to to bully their way in a market they had nothing in
You won't find an answer that isn't incredibly biased. It all boils down to that it isn't made by Apple. If it were made by another third party (e.g. Creative or Sansa) I imagine it would get some praise from the community, but still be bashed as not as good as the iPod. The fact that its made by Microsoft just inspires so much hate that the fanboys can't see through their Apple-made rose colored glasses.

I still haven't heard an answer why its a "bad product".
Nor is it failed. is the xbox a failed product? Took damn near 7 years to turn a profit and to gain a foothold. MS has money to to bully their way in a market they had nothing in.
If w were going off your percentages....Apple would be a failed product...no?
It'll be a failed product when they close the Zune division.

Hmm, I didn't really have a point! Was just randomly venting frustration. Honestly though, I'm not going to consider a media player unless I can do exactly that. It's a shame that the 'better' players all tend to rely on some software package to get anything onto them..
Well 96% of the buying public that have not chosen the zune and have noted nay with their money, the ultimate judge, are not exactly apple fanboys are they? Your argument thus crumbles.
You are wrong on the xbox, it's misleading to say it took 76 years for it to be profitable, because it was profitable all along via the CONTENT it was selling, ie the games, and microsofts cut in that. If I sell you a device at a loss but all the software that goes with it at a a huge profit, that's a profit for me.
Some Zune owners have a need to defend the Zune so emphatically because deep down, they know they got hosed. Pride won't allow them to admit the loss. Sad.

I don't use itunes or media player, easy and flexible for me is dropping a file/s into a folder - or at least having the option to do this...
Even before the original was released, microsoft said they weren't planning on making money with it - I liked your adjective too, as much as I like the idea of sony having a black eye and a bleeding nose.
To answer your question no. To answer your other (real) question - I live in the uk and I've never even seen one, I don't think they sell them here, or outside the us? Seems a bit stupid, loading up some pallets and shipping them across the sea is hardly a big investment or risk
Anyway, I prefer to buy products that really work for me - not on some silly brand image/war/bias blogsite/community/random adjective/etc based decision.
No one is defending the Zune.
I've simply asked (more than once now) can anyone let me know whats so "bad" about the Zune.
No one has given an answer yet. Which is leading me to believe many of you haven't even used one.
So i'll ask again, what didn't you find appealing about the Zune in your personal opinion that makes it "bad."
As I've said before in previous posts: The UI. It was not intuitive enough to compel me to give it more than 10 minutes of my time. Perhaps I'm too "stupid" to figure out the UI... I'll concede that, you've got me there.
Alright fair enough.
I don't think you are stupid but i'm a bit surprised as to me at least, the UI made more sense. (and remember, I came from 2 previous ipods)
It reminds me of a bit of the XMB of Sony machines now. Swipe left or right for category, up and down for content.
You'll find many gear/electronic review sites agreed with me on that one, in fact, most rated the iPod classic and Zune the same score.
Well, nobody's brain works the same.
Good point on the review sites comparing Zune/iPod. I do realize some like the Zune better. I can't ignore, though, what % of market share also implies.
I just personally think the Zune you can tell Microsoft is putting in a solid effort which I respect going against the MP3 Goliath that is the iPod....and esp. compared to their Version 1 of the Zune and Zune software which was clearly just a toss in the hat.
