Am I the only one who noticed this?

...creating games around the ethos of giving people a place to play, meet and make friends...

So, these games are meant to be a place to make friends, meet friends and play friends? There is just about no positive definition of "to play someone". Most refer to using or manipulating them...

"Oh why can't we teach our children how to speak..."

Maybe it isn't that crazy.

There has been 35 million downloads of the app so they're paying about $6 per user. The in app purchases will get some money coming in as will the paid version but then there is all the cross sales as well which Zynga are experts in.

Facebook float price values their users at $125 each, which appears expensive in comparison - wouldn't surprise me if Zynga get more income per user than Facebook.

The more interesting aspect is highlighting further the monster that Apple have created. Anyone can write an app, even on their own, have it go global over night and walk away with an obscene amount of money a month later. Can't think of anything like that, ever, in any field.

The downside is that a company like Zynga can appear overnight and disappear just as quickly.

You are forgetting that one of the reasons Draw Something is so popular is that it uses the same "With Friends" formula users are already familiar with. It's therefore very likely that the users Zynga is paying for here are already playing other Zynga games.

 Are you kidding me? I just got this app yesterday and I really like it and now Zynga is going to ruin it? With there "ad-free" apps that advertise all of there crappy games. There games are so buggy for no reason!

I can't believe that zinga, or any of these iOS game developers, even have $200,000,000. Not so long ago most of these companies didn't even exist.

So does OMGPOP. Just today I was forced to update before being allowed to play. Kind of silly IMHO.

Well, being a developer of client-server apps, it's not silly at all. It is MUCH easier to keep a stable system if you force the Client Version to keep in sync with the Server Version.

Zynga huh? So Sheldon Cooper from 'The Big Bang Theory' bought something... Other than a comic book! :D

I don't really follow social games/app like this, but after reading about this buyout I thought that Draw Something sounded quite good. I guess I won't be getting it now then.

Zynga is the devil. Hell will freeze over when they come up with an original idea and stop just buying the competition.

What does Zynga have to gain from this? They already have experienced app developers and could have cloned this in a few months if they wanted to. I cannot see how they will make $200,000,000 back from this game. Especially as others say - it's lacking the features many others have, particularly competitive play.

They bought the whole company, developers and all. OMGPOP isn't just about Draw Something. I'm sure they have/had a plethora of iOS games in the making and my guess is Zynga felt threatened by their presence and bought them out. If you can't beat 'em, own 'em.

Oh geez. Another game controlled by that retarded f@#$ing @#@#$!@#$!@#$!@#$!@#$!@#$!@#$!@#$ Zynga.

Why do people even bother with Zynga games? They're mostly scams aimed at those with meaningless lives who get addicted to games then pay real money for virtual prizes.

I tried Zynga Poker for 5 minutes. I ragequit from the number of stupid notifications they sent me and the overall annoying-ness of the game. Anything Zynga makes is annoying, and the game ends up being a stressful, frustrating waste of time.

Why all the Zynga hate? Perhaps Zynga will improve it so it takes <1 hour to load, doesn't repeat words, and actually has an objective?

Totally agree. Zynga could really add polish to it.

They're called GAMES you *********. You don't have to pay a cent to play the ad-supported versions. Just because people play games means they have meaningless lives?? How are they scams if people CHOOSE to pay for it??

You completely misread. I never said people who play Zynga games have meaningless lives. I said that people who pay for stuff like FarmBucks or whatever have meaningless lives. It's a scam because those people are easy targets. Why else would they basically cheat on the game and ruin it for themselves at the cost of real money? Heh, if I want to cheat, I just do a little hacking on my jailbroken iPhone.

I'm not a *********, mostly because nothing would fit in that 9-character censored bar. I guess I also called Zynga a @#$#@@#$%@#$%@#$%, but whatever.

Quick! Someone, pay a group $2000 to bot-download the game once Zynga takes it. Apple will remove it from the store for being promoted by bots (see another MR article on it) :).

They bought the company not just Draw Something game. And 35 million people + $from the free ads + future in-app purchases = lots of $.

I guess Zynga's version: "Draw Something (else)" didn't work out so well… Well that sucks, looks like Draw Something is going to the sh****er. I like some of Zynga's stuff, but they don't really focus on stability. Pretty much all of the "…with friends" apps crash at random on my iPad…

EDIT: Gonna grab this app before it is updated and ruined… lol
