well ... students are more spec conscious, so they hope to get the most value out of their money.
launching a new macbook after / near end of B2S promotion will cause a lot of dissatisfaction and returns.

at least thats what i'm thinking ... not sure if anybody is on the same boat as mine.

I'm a fairly spec conscious person when it comes to electronics. But asking fellow classmates yesterday [orientation stuff], they don't even know what Ivy Bridge/Haswell is..... [Both girls and boys here] So there's very few of us that are spec conscious about what we spend our money on. At least college freshmen....

Seen several good deals on last years model and skipped in hopes that they get updated, but i can't stay without a laptop for to long. Do you guys see the prices going up if they don't get refreshed.

So guys, were not too far off. Info was dug up courtesy of pikeralpha. http://browser.primatelabs.com/geekbench2/2060983 He's a hackintosh guy I've also seen him on the Tonymacx86 forums.

Geekbench result for what we'll assume is 13" MacBook Pro with Retina Display rocking the 28W Core i5 with Iris 5100 Graphics. A healthy boost up from the 2.5Ghz 3210M.

Of note is the date in the Boot ROM Version. AAPLJ441.88Z.0098.B00.1306051054. 2013, June, 5. For reference rMBPs shipped June 2012 with a Boot ROM Version MBP101.88Z.00EE.B00.1205101839 containing the date May 10, 2012 which put that model about a month out from release. Again, not really the greatest indicator.

this is interesting .... hmmm .... ULV processors in a pro machine?
sounds like in the current state they are still not ready for mass production ...

i think the fact that they use the AAPLJXXX codename instead of MacbookPro11,X
is a good indicator that they are trying to hide something...at least thats what i'm thinking.

So I was right. :D
The processors on the 13" would be the 28W ULV's and the 15" would definitely be the 47W HQ series.

That's an interesting little indicator there... I think this: http://browser.primatelabs.com/geekbench2/compare/2060983/2068646 is a good comparison (stock vs stock). Again, we'd expect to see only a minor improvement in benchmarks (as with the Haswell Air vs non-Haswell Air) so a ~200-point Geekbench increase makes sense assuming the battery life is way better.

The front page showed that the new Mac Pro is on Geekbench as well (http://browser.primatelabs.com/geekbench2/2064275) with a 6/12/13 bootrom date, however (and we know the Mac Pro isn't being released for a while). Hmm...

The question is why is it running Mavericks? It could also mean it would only be released in the Fall together with the iDevices. But then another question, why hasn't B2S started yet?

Woo I had post #1234!

And honestly there are just so many different ways for Apple to do this that no one really has any idea but them (myself included). It would be bizarre for them to do B2S with nothing but a new MBA unless they discounted the retail prices before taking into account B2S in an effort to sell lots of machines. Otherwise people would be pretty annoyed when they suddenly released new rMBPs alongside an iPhone 5s etc. in the fall, and at that point it would be super awkward since B2S would be at its very end or just having ended. In either case it makes no sense from a sales perspective.

And I noticed it was running OS X 10.9 too. That can't fare well for a summer release...

13" rMBP gets a huge performance increase from HD4000 to HD5100,

and 15"rMBP gets only HD5200 which is essentially the same as GT650, that gonna suck a lot ... i expect a higher performance increase from last year's model.

Who says anything about 15" rMBP getting only integrated graphics? My prediction says they are going to include at least a GTX 760M to ensure a performance gap. If thermal envelope does not allow, GT 750M.

its because HD5200 performance is slightly worse than GT650M.
So it is possible that Apple would just choose to get rid of dGPU in favor of better battery life.

Wrong.

https://www.macrumors.com/2013/06/1...sh-storage-approaches-800-mbs-read-and-write/

"And it’s up to 45 percent faster than the flash storage in the previous-generation MacBook Air."

SATA limits speed to 6 Gbps (768 MBps). The 2012 notebooks had ~ 450 MBps reads, so these 800 MBps reads are possible only because of PCIe.
How am I wrong...? What the hell are you even trying to say?
Please tell me why would you want to spend tons of money for extra 200mbps you won't even use.

Bit of a strange decision for their flagship pro laptop surely?

I'm still going for a doom-merchant prediction of October/September. :(

If they realy get rid of the dGPu, i can see some people wanting the '15 go on a riot ;)

Wow, the integrated graphics sure got a lot faster huh?

I don't think Apple will drop the discreet graphics chip though, so maybe an upgrade?

What dGPU do you guys think Apple will put in the upcoming release? Maybe a 750M? That is barely faster than the current one though.

I'm on the waiting bandwagon as well. Woo, coming from an early 2008 Macbook Pro will be such an upgrade. I just wish Apple releases it before the next semester starts.

Between this and waiting for United to sign some players I may actually go mad.

Interesting that Geekbench has only picked up the 13" so far.

A dGPU upgrade is the most desirable scenario,
seriously who else wants to pay two grand for a computer running on integrated graphics?

I'm a bit confused on Intel haswell processor lineup, it is very strange lineup.

I'd really like if Intel did something like this
1. low-end CPU + low end iGPU
2. mid-end CPU + mid end iGPU
3. high-end CPU + hi end iGPU

linear increase of performance.
but instead it isn't.

it almost looks like Intel wants to force vendors to use only iGPU.

MountainLion-Beta-Release to Apple employees -> Releases within a month? (same Mavericks-Beta-Release came this week)

First rMBP-Geekbenchresults -> Releases within a month? (same with haswell this week)

Also B2S should have already started.

So I think we don't need to wait until fall.

If apple really using the i5-4258U insteed of the same priced i5-4288U, choosing between i5 and i7 won't be easy :(
