During Memorial Weekend they shot a commercial for the new iPhone in LA just in case anyone cared to know

More info? Need to provide some sources for posts like that :p

I could just walk around telling people that Steve Jobs was in my house preparing for his keynote ;)

I think that we won't see anything more from this than a possible commercial for something else. What would you film in an Apple Store?

Could they be possibly adding a iPhone App section in their stores? like for demoeing and purchasing and whenever you visit the store you can get weekly free downloads...I can see a video made for the developers.

It's probably true. there were reports of another Apple ad being shot on a studio in LA last week.

Yeah I forgot about Genesis. And also theres the F900, but I don't think they'd use that. I thought Apple usually used 2/3" HD cameras though, not in the Panavision range.

Maybe the DP wanted the DOF of the film lenses? They're obviously using Panavision this time (unless it's an overt decoy to get iPhone stock at 5th :D).

Dear Arn,

I love you.

Love,

VideoShooter

Um, please save those shenanigans for Valentines Day or MacWorld...

That would be great, but the store seems a little informal. I mean, the most probable thing that they would be doing is filming the "guide" videos. But those can be done on a sound stage!

muh-nutz!

Seriously though... There are a lot of knowledgeable people that have already pointed out far more reasons why this is not what our excitement drives us to convince ourselves it's iPhone related, and very few indicators that it could be. We'll just have to accept that it's for something else, and watch for other iPhone rumors.

Apple is not known for changing the presentation of a product refresh. They have one of the planet's most successful branding strategies, and they aren't likely to deviate far from the original iPhone media look and feel when they update the handset. They'll want to make sure that you know in the first 10 frames, that you are watching an iPhone commercial when it debuts. For that (as MANY have already pointed out), you would not need an Apple store to achieve, just a soundstage.

In fact, taking previous broadcast initiatives into consideration, it's much more likely that they are further promoting an in-store service the staff provides or that it's another production altogether (like a press piece as, again many have already pointed out). I wouldn't totally rule out a new approach to the back to school promotion however. Though they have not practiced wide media distribution with these types of promotions in the past, there are no guidelines that specifically make it unlikely... only historical example. That itself is not subject to change when you consider that we already know that this year's promotion is expected to be larger, and Apple may want to take advantage of the large growth they've seen on college campuses and such.

Any way you slice this, it's almost certainly not 3G iPhone related. -sadly.

I'd like to hear more from the poster that claimed the spot in question here was actually shot over the weekend in LA. This is more likely, I'd just like to see if there are any details available for that... such as the specific focus of the spot?

I just walked by and they are still shooting and not letting people even cross the street, instead detouring pedestrian traffic over to either madison ave, or past the plaza hotel to the west... I asked the guy if it was iPhone 2 and he laughed and smiled and said "I don't know" he seemed to know something though and I said I'll take that smile as a 'maybe' and he smiled again...;)

Thank you for your dissertation, but I just had a stroke... Of genius! What about One to One!? What about personal training at your Apple Store? Could they be shooting for that???

Yea, people are looking into this way too much. 5+4 = 9. 9 is the day in june.

Yes, people are looking into this way too much.

5 and 4... MEAN NOTHING. It simply means its the fourth and fifth box!

I am as big of a fanboy as anyone... but this is out of control! RELEASE IT ALREADY STEVE!!!!!

hehe, you said "stroke".

Aw come'on 200 of you thought it before I typed it.

I believe thinking like this will allow us to temper our expectations, and will probably be closer to the reality of this production. It could be app-store related... which can get it close to iPhone -but again, I just don't think it fits the brand extension that they've worked so hard these last 18 months in make a permanent impression on people.

Sweet!

Long time reader, first time poster. Got so excited I signed up just to say "Hi" to the Apple Lovers(TM) I've been following for so long now.

Hi!

And for my first post I will add smart, on-topic, intelligent, and pertinent information to the dialogue at hand...

I hope they are shooting a commercial for a ZunePhone that Apple will now sell instead of the iPhone. That would be so sweet. Right?

Thoughts? Could we see something like this at WWDC?

While that's an interesting thought, I think the level of production people are seeing would indicate that the product of this shoot is more likely designed for mass consumption (the video product, not the subject product/service) as opposed to the video being shown during that keynote, which was for a small group, and Steve thought he'd just add it to his presentation. Just my $.02
