Personally, I'd probably prefer a 7448 G4 PB to a Rev. 1 G5, but I know I'm in the minority on that....

Well count me among the minority! I'd rather have a Rev.D that is bombproof in all aspects, than a sure-to-be-faulty Rev.A G5 and having to send it back to Applecare every five min, not to mention the third degree burns I'd expect to my legs!
If it definately is a 7448 G4 I'd be a very, very happy man....

Steve/Apple will deny G5 PowerBooks up until the very last minute before they are released. They want to sell as many of the current G4's, as simple as that - common business tactics!
PowerBook G4 or G5, 14th Feb 2005!

Agreed. They don't have anymore PB's available at the Apple Store @ Lenox (Atlanta). And they were very helpful in telling me that they have no idea when new ones are coming in.

T-T-T-Tuesday.

Like I said before... I am sure that some marketing person at Apple is reading this stuff and laughing like they are stoned.

Just....god it's just a damn computer.

I completely agree, neo. The sad thing is that established members are starting to get annoying by making fun of the "OMG NEW POWERBOOK TUESDAY!!!@111" people. People, it's not cool to say "Here come the POWERBOOK NEXT TUESDAY" people. You're acting just as annoying as them. It's not funny anymore...

Don't fool yourself

All these people are saying that they wouldn't buy a G5 PB Rev A and that you would wait. As if. You will see the monster in all its glory and go "i so need one of those". Stop kidding yourself, your credit card is going to suffer, there is nothing you can do.

THIS FROM APPLEINSIDER - Stories everywhere, they must exist

Hypertransport enabled PowerBook G5?

The Inquirer claims to have obtained a copy of a Digital Video and Multimedia News writeup from the Electronics Summit 2004, a conference held for electronics editors. The document lists some of the ‘design wins’ of different technologies, and seemingly references an Apple PowerBook G5.

"Number 7 on the list is Hypertransport, that well known technology used in AMD 64 chips and Power Macs," the publication says. "But perhaps the most interesting confirmation is that Hypertransport has a design win for the Apple PowerBook. This would appear to be confirmation that a G5 PowerBook is definitely turning up and that despite thermal problems, it is at least in the works."

HyperTransport technology, which is featured in Apple’s G5-based Power Mac systems, is a new high speed, high performance point-to-point link for interconnecting integrated circuits on a motherboard. It can be significantly faster than a PCI bus for an equivalent number of pins, and is primarily targeted for the IT and Telecomm industries. However, any application where high speed, low latency and scalability is necessary can potentially take advantage of HyperTransport technology.

Couldn't G5 just be fifth generation?

The tag on apple's web site was an web beacon/bug for marketing tracking by Atlas (Avenue A). Those tags are all over apple's website so they can calculate how many people visit their website from banner campaigns.

As that tag was on the current powerbook page (and may have been like that for some time), perhaps it just indicated that that it is the 5th iteration of the Powerbook. Here are all the powerbook revs todate, and the current one is #5:

5) PowerBook G4 Family (12,15 and 17-inch): Specifications - 2004.04

4) PowerBook G4 (12-inch DVI): Specifications - 2003.09
PowerBook G4 (15-inch FW 800): Specifications - 2003.09
PowerBook G4 (17-inch 1.33GHz): Specifications - 2003.09

3) PowerBook G4 (12-inch): Specifications - 2003.01
PowerBook G4 (17-inch): Specifications - 2003.01

2) PowerBook G4 (1GHz/867MHz): Specifications - 2002.11
PowerBook G4 (DVI): Specifications - 2002.04

1) PowerBook G4 (Gigabit Ethernet): Specifications - 2001.10
PowerBook G4 (Titanium): Specifications - 2001.01

First rule...

The first rule of G5 Powerbook Club is - you do not talk about G5 Powerbook Club. The second rule of G5 Powerbook Club is - you DO NOT talk about G5 Powerbook Club.

SuperBowl?

Here's a potential explanation:

-Steve needs big stage to launch the PowerBook G5
-Apple introduced the Mac during a Super Bowl Ad
-The rumor is we'll see a new PowerBooks in the next couple of weeks
-The Super Bowl is in the next couple of weeks.

Therefore -
Apple will release the PowerBook G5 with a groundbreaking ad during the Super Bowl.

Go Pats!
I'm watching the Super Bowl and the commercials....

The problem they have got is they forgot to buy the advertising space and they are not listed on the ad list. I bet Steves kickin himself. :D

Much as I'd love to see that happen, there's two reasons I think it won't:

1. Apple's not on any ad list that I've seen for the Super Bowl.

2. The "love" reference at Macworld means something, and I think it means February 14. (I'm not saying PB G5 on Feb. 14; I'm just saying something.)

I sure as heck hope that you were kidding, and based you your ;), you were. Nonetheless, I was simply ranting about the constant barrage of Powerbook G5 next Tuesday people. It does get annoying after a while. Even if someone is making fun of the "Powerbook G5 next tuesday" people, it is still unnecessary. I just don't get it. Every thread about Powerbooks starts out with a member saying "Powerbook G5s next Tuesday". If you aren't annoyed, then I commend you for your patience.

To all the established members who make fun of them, you are part of the problem. Maybe we should just let them say their crap without repeating what they say. Let the newbs be...

I just googled for Super Bowl Ads, and came up with this from Mac Rumors two years ago when they introduced Powerbooks:

Update: No Apple ad was shown during the Superbowl, however, the Yao Ming/Mini-Me ad was shown during Alias which aired immediately after the Superbowl.

What's on after the Super Bowl?

has anyone noticed that you can put a 128mb graphics card in the 15 and 17 inch powerbook not to mention that in the uk apple store the processor, graphics card and airport thing are highlighted blue

Yeah, I posted about this in a different thread a week ago. All the non-US store pages have the blue text for processor, graphics, airport/bluetooth, and iLife.

Geocentric Theroy is wrong, next you will tell me that the Earth isn't the center of the universe.;)

I don't care about the PB getting a G5, I am already working on the rumor that the PB G5 is getting a speed boost next Tuesday. Oh, and Apple is bringing back the Newton- G3 based, and there is gong to be a new Apple Pro Suite that includes Shake. Also a 2 button mouse.

Sarcasm aside, I want one, but don't need one yet.

Funny thing is...this is only a single G5 1.8 GHz. The rest of it is the battery necessary to keep the powerbook running for more than an hour.

Oh well, seems to me that this has been a big fat rumour! To all of you who have a 1.5Ghz G4 PowerBook, we have still got some time to gloat that we have the BEST and FASTEST PowerBooks on the planet. :p

:D aussie_geek

i heard that some of the people that got to test the first PB G5s for a few months can't have kids now... Apple is rumored to suggest icepacks in ur pants during use
