Bye Bye Monday Night FB

I don't know about the rest of you but Monday night football going to ESPN is just unfair. I don't want cable just for football - I have no other use for it. :( I wish the NFL would consider their fans a little more and money just a little less...

i'm in the same boat as you, except vice versa. I love the Broncos and the Bears. Glad both these teams have the second seed and both really have a good chance of making the big game, but I really hope that both don't. That would be a very interesting super bowl to watch.

daniel

a bay area person like me would be torn to see the 49ers and raiders in a superbowl, but that has never happened

there was a year when the san francisco giants went against the oakland a's and they were selling these hats that were one half a's and one half giants on them

many sports fans, me included, pick all the bay area teams, also the warriors, kings, and sharks, too in hopes that one will make a finals in their sport...it happens at least a three times a decade or more that way

most recently in the 00s, the giants lost in the world series and the raiders lost in a superbowl and that sucked, and the a's flirted with going all the way

now that we have one more week to go in the regular season, who do you think will win the superbowl next month?
The last few weeks have made all of this interesting. The Colts haven't looked as unbeatable - though the Chargers loss was on a bad day for Manning, which is rare, and the Seahawks game was without several key starters. But, the teams that seem to do well in the playoffs are the ones that are finishing strong. In the AFC, you really have to look at the Steelers and (gasp) Patriots. The Steelers have won 3 in a row by a combined score of 80-12. The Pats have won, what, 6 of 7 now? It's hard to get a grip on the Jaguars, because they have had inferior competition lately, but they look good too. In contrast, the Bengals and Colts seem to be limping towards the finish line. My AFC predictions: Steelers over Bengals, then they lose to the Colts in a close, classic game. Patriots beat the Jags, then go to Denver and beat the Broncos. Patriots go to Indy and Vinateri misses a game-winning field goal, Indy wins because this is their year.

For the NFC, Carolina beats Tampa Bay before losing to Seattle. Giants beat the Redskins and then upset the Bears. NFC championship is another great game, featuring 100+yard games by running backs from each team, NY wins on a field goal. This gives you a Super Bowl matching the Manning brothers. Peyton wins, and it's not close.

Monday night football is going to be replaced with Sunday night football. ESPN and ABC (both owned by Disney by the way) are switching their Monday and Sunday evening programming. This is all being done aparently to free up ESPN's Sunday evening for their newly aquired Nascar contract. They couldnt just drop the Sunday night game seeing that its just as popular as the Monday night game so they are doing the switch. Has nothing to do with the NFL and how they treat their fans and everything to do with the happiest place on earth...Disney.

The Colts were playing for a "bonus" (perfect season) while San Diego was playing for it's life. The Chargers came out w/more incentive to win and a greater desire to win. Dungy has said the past 5wks or so that while going undefeated would be great, the ring is the thing. But the Colts don't have of strong history of winning "must win" post season games.

That makes sense, however I don't think in the highly competitive world of professional sports, that a team so close to a landmark achievement is going to simply treat it as a "bonus". I understand what you're saying though. :)

Sorry to break it to you man, I know it's hard to believe, but it's true... ;)

Yeah, I was surprised how ABC was treating the last monday night game as the last one ever. The whole show isn't going anywhere, it's just moving to a sister network. On top of that, they didn't mention anything about moving to sunday night as the next big "night football" game.

Actually, the rights to the Sunday night game were bought by NBC. ABC will be without football for the first time in 36 years next season.

Bought tickets to the divisional playoff game in Denver!!!!!! Tickets went fast but I was lucky enough to get in. This will be my first NFL game I've ever been too, not too shabby for my first one. Can't wait.

Glad to hear you got tickets. I remember a few years back I went to the original Mile High Stadium for a birthday present during it's last year. The new stadium was pretty much finished. It looked really nice from the outside and whenever I've seen it on T.V.

On another playoff note, I'm really looking forward to going to the Bears playoff game. The last one I went to didn't go so well.

The Bears team this year to me looks better than the one from a few years ago. Plus, the NFC looks much weaker. I really think the Bears should pull off their first playoff win.

I'm just hoping that the Broncos and the Bears don't play each other in the Bowl.

I could see the Broncos in the big game for sure, but I don't know yet if the Bears will get past the Seahawks. Should be some interesting games coming up!

Good that someone's done his homework. I had no idea. I wish I could just do something like pay-per-view for ESPN, not only do they have the NFL games I want to watch, but all the college bowl games too. The only thing I watch on TV is football and cspan, so there's no point forking out for all the other stations... oh well. I don't suppose they are going to monopolize the world cup next year too are they?

how do you think the playoff picture will complete itself?

there will be some teams' fans on the edge of their seats and maybe this year, so dominated by a couple of teams, could actually be a year for a low seeded playoff team to pull off some major upsets en route to a superbowl ring

i usually favor a bay area team, and no luck this year, but it would kind of be fun to see the dallas cowboys get in, ride through the playoffs, and win the superbowl

Okay Mr Shard, you are really starting to become a real thorn in my side. First you rank on my AVATAR now this.

I even acknowledged my err directly below. ABC, NBC, does it really matter? The guy will still be watching network football. :evileyeswithdaggers:

Hey sorry about that - I was actually referring to the initial post he quoted, (the one you subsequently corrected), and was directing my comments towards him, not you. ;) I made my comment because he was referencing the incorrect post and essentially calling it correct. I did indeed see your subsequent post and was by no means ragging on you, more so him for not seeing your corrected post.

Anyway, no need to quibble over little details like this. My apologies - the avatar thing was a joke, this however was completely unintentional!

Gotcha, thanks, good to know - it is sometimes very hard to get a read on people on an Internet Discussion Board. ;)

So, back on topic - I think Washington and Pittsburgh will secure playoff spots this week. Anyone have any other thoughts?

the cowboys can still get in with win and carolina loss

www.nfl.com/news/story/9055604

not the best of circumstances having to rely on another's game, and dallas, washington, and carolina will be battling for two remaining spots in the nfc

pittsburgh and kansas city will be fighting for lone spot in afc playoffs in that nearly cemented conference

Well, Carolina is kicking the Falcons' ass... 27-3 at halftime. So I think it's safe to say that the Cowgirls are done.

Now, all I want for Christmas (retroactive gift) is for the Panthers to win today AND for the Saints to step up in their role as perennial spoilers and beat the freaking Bucs. That would let Carolina win the NFC South.

^^well the panthers are kicking arse whiles the bucks are trying to stay alive...but panthers wont make it easy on em. the saints aint letting up either...going out with a fight.
im going with the bucs on this
