I Could really do with a new laptop!!! :_:confused:

if you really need one now get the current MB or MBP... 64-bit apps have a long way to go before becoming the norm and the power/efficiency of Merom isn't that great of a leap... but if you can wait & don't need one right away then just wait it out...

Significant Changes Are Likely In New C2D MBP

Aye - I am buying one next wednesday. Fed up of waiting now for something I could and should have been enjoying for ages. I do wish they would release a bit of info on upcoming changes, if it was just Merom they were working on I would have no quarms about buying asap but I will be peeved if I buy one to find out a week later it has a bigger, easily removable hdd, better cooling, black anodised case etc etc
Don't do it! The changes you worry are coming are coming soon.

Don't worry. It won't, at least not until January- will just have Merom added.
You don't know that David. Many others here and I strongly disagree with you. We don't know this either, but believe it will have all of the above changes Foggy lists and be out soon.

If the update is just a chip swap with no other changes then Apple are doing a REALLY poor job. They are, undeniably, late with switching to Merom when compared to most other laptop manufacturers.

If it's just a chip swap, and Apple are taking this long, it is seriously bad news for all Apple products. Imagine if during every single chip update Apple are always months slower than the rest of the industry to swap over. This would mean Apple products would always be slower, and less powerful, than other systems.

Nah, it HAS to be a more substantial update than just the CPU or it would have happened over a month ago.

Well - as stated in an earlier post - I caved in and ordered a stock 17" MBP through Amazon on Saturday.

It arrived this evening and my quick assessment is - thumbs up. This is a week 38 build
That would have been the week of Sep 17 to Sept 23. It would be interesting to track the last week of prodution of one machine vs the first week of production of its successor. Might provide an insight in the release process and make the prediction of introduction more one of science rather than that of an augery.

(Anybody have a live chicken handy?)

I just got a mail from apple thats say that the macbook i ordred cant be delevered because they are switching to a new m... hehe Just joking..

i got a mail that my new macbook has been sent from sozhou in china, and it will be delevered by 17. october. but if they are going to release a new model, i'm going to return it as soon it gets here.
wouldnt you do that?

I agree (and hope) that this has to be more than just a chip swap out...I don't know how much more, but at least something extra.

However, it's still way too early to say that Apple is MONTHS behind, they're not even 1 month behind yet. To my best recollection, Dell didn't even start SHIPPING their laptops until after Sept 20th...right? So that puts Apple at about 2 weeks behind other manufacturers...it just feels so much longer, especially when constantly checking this support group ;)

Agreed. It's getting more like Apple Macintosh C2D Mobile Anticipators Anonymous.

Hi multimedia, you know the first step towards recovery is admitting you have a problem.

are you waiting and wanting a new MB or MBP yourself?

me... i would love a great new laptop. hope apple finally comes with specs i am anticipating. but am i bend outta shape like the rest of people waiting? nope.

though i think it kinda is weird apple didnt use the core 2 extreme in the imac, so apple could use the core 2 duo's in laptop computers.

just a thought.

The running line of thought was that the smallish enclosure wouldn't be able to handle the extra heat generated by the desktop versions if I am not mistaken. I could be wrong though...

what???? how???

Probably should have said haven't dreamt about a C2D Macbook for 3 weeks now... obviously since we are all still here the C2D notebooks aren't yet.

The whole consumerline is updated since a month:
MacBook - swapable HD
iMac - C2D
MacMini - nearly the same specs like MBP besides Grapiccard now

but only the so called proffesional laptop serie isn´t updated again

and all other pros updated

so, the MBP is the last in line

wondering why

I have forgotten
I love the Powerbooks/MBPs
I have 4 Powerbooks and when the first shark campaign came out I felt in love.
But I´m a little bit angry that the PBs/MBPs the last in the update line since years. And that there is such a lot of marketing reasons for releasing a product.
First you can´t release because there is the back to school offer.
Then you can´t release because the holiday season isn´t near enough and so on.
I love to work with them.
So, Steve think about it.

Actually the MacBook was last updated 141 days ago...

tablet mac

what if it's a tablet? i wouldn't mind waiting until january for that. of course apple would make it better some how and allow you to control it with your hatred for xp or something cool like that

Omg!!

This probably means nothing but if you go to http://www.apple.com/macbookpro/wireless.html and click at the bottom right on "Intel Core Duo >" you get the "Looking for something at Apple.com?" message.

Either the link was meant for http://www.apple.com/macbookpro/intel.html in the first place OR ... http://www.apple.com/macbookpro/intelcore2duo.html is just about to show up but http://www.apple.com/macbookpro/intelcoreduo.html now leads nowhere. Like I said, probably nothing ...

I think u got a damm good point right here!.

Why the secrecy now days?

As I've posed in an other thread, with no response, is: Why the secrecy from Apple still? We all know what type of CPU's are available now, there are no more secrets like with the PPC. Would it hurt to say, "coming in two weeks" or similar? I understand it may affect their pricing on current models, but does it affect them that much that they need to stay quiet until the actual day of release? We are talking a somewhat decent upgrade here, from 32bit to 64bit capable which would match nicely with OSX 10.5. Not just your average speed bump.
Anyway, why is Apple still so secretive about their upcoming computer releases when the entire industry knows what is coming next? Is it just for hype, or is there more??
