I think that's too long. I'll predict Tuesday 10/15.

Last year's New York media event was Wednesday 10/19. That event was first rumored on the 13th and confirmed on the 14th. It included new PowerBooks, Dual Core Power Macs, and a price drop in Cinema Displays. And also Aperture.
the 15th isn't a tuesday it's a sunday

Apple Needs A Lot Of 2.33GHz Meroms For All The Top MBPs

AppliedVisual said:
Merom is readily available in all speeds except 2.33GHz, but even that doesn't carry too much of a delay (3 to 7 days max from most PC vendors, including Apple with their 24" iMac).
I think the 2.33GHz Merom will be the standard speed on this next MBP line top 15" & 17" Models. So this could be the reason for the late start.

The best stopgap deal is the $949 1.83GHz Combo MacBook on Apple's SAVE page. It will have a pre-owned resale value of $800-$949 anytime in the next 6 months.

I'll only have it for two months (get back 12/19). I'll only be able to get a new MacBook as I leave this Friday. Would the bottom line or middle line hold better value?

I just played around on Logic Express on a G4 PowerBook and a 17" MBP (first time I've touched one) at a mate's house last night - looked and ran awesome. Jealous of you guys that have one. No comparison to my (work) Dell Latitude.

On another note, a bloke in the office has been trying to get hold of a MacBook for about two weeks. None of the stores in the city have any... New delivery due.... (guess)..........

.....next tuesday! (not jk)

1.83GHz vs. 2GHz Refurbs Feel Like Same Speed. Don't Spend 4 SuperDr Unless U Need It

I don't know. I think either one will. If you don't need a SuperDrive for your short term use of it, just buy the cheapest one for only $949. The difference in speed between 1.83GHz and the 2GHz model is imperceptable.

Does that mean that MacBooks/Pros don't have to wait for Santa Rosa in order to get wireless pre-n? Could that kind of redesign be a reason for the present delay? We've already heard that the C2D iMacs have hardware that can do pre-n which is not yet enabled in the software. Did the old CD iMacs have the same wireless hardware as the present CD MacBooks/Pros?

iMac already has a pre-n-capable chipset, just needs the appropriate drivers.

I doubt a redesign is the problem, since the iMac has it already -- it's just a card on the PCIe bus, after all.

THe CD iMacs and MacBook Pro aren't using chipsets that can handle anything but 802.11b/g.

As I see it, unless you are doing something that needs a) higher res, b) much faster graphics, the MB is fine -- and has much better battery life, to boot..

Consensus on C2D heat and MBs/MBPs?

I've been watchin' and waitin' and wishin' and hopin' with all of you.

My main reason for waiting for C2D was my concern about heat in the MBs and MBPs, having originally heard that merom would be cooler. From what I gather, this is not clear cut and probably not going to make a significant difference to the overall warmth of the machines.

I can manage without a laptop in the short term but having one would make life a lot easier. If heat and not 64bit-ness is my main concern I guess I should go ahead and buy one....

What's the consensus on whether merom will make the things run significantly cooler?

Thanks

But, how much? minutes, hours? For example in viewing a DVD, how many minutes ? has sombody that info?

thanks

No clue, but the MacBook's lack of GPU and lower res display is a fairy significant power reduction.

Edit: speelink

just an observation, the front page (apple.com) was changed this morning, i believe, the bottom left square has been changed from the keynote quicktime to aperature now shipping.

I think 50% longer would be a good guestimate

To be fair, the biggest power draw in DVD playback is probably the mechanics of the DVD drive, which is the same no matter what...

Aye - I am buying one next wednesday. Fed up of waiting now for something I could and should have been enjoying for ages. I do wish they would release a bit of info on upcoming changes, if it was just Merom they were working on I would have no quarms about buying asap but I will be peeved if I buy one to find out a week later it has a bigger, easily removable hdd, better cooling, black anodised case etc etc

Just checked the warehouse status for the MBP at www.dustin.se, one of Swedens biggest Internet-stores. The status "Not in warehouse" was written at all versions of the MBP. As far as I know, they ususally have most things avaiable.

maybe you can start some kind of breakfast kitchen serving eggs on your new yonah macbook pro. jk good luck man, i've tested them out in store and they don't seem to get too hot recently.

This brings up a good question, how is the 17" with heat, compared to the 15"?
I was under the impression that there was actually less heat in the 17", because it could dissipate the heat better through it's design.

Anyone have a personal experience with both?

I currently use a 15" AlBook, but am willing to haul the extra size/weight around not to lose my FW800 port.

Don't worry. It won't, at least not until January- will just have Merom added.
