What if iLife becomes integrated with the OS.

Why would you even want that?

It's the same thing people used to claim MS did to establish a monopoly by bundling Office and IE and integrating them so tightly into the OS that you couldn't, for all practical purposes, get rid of the applications.

Well, this is no fun, but I think it's better for them to push it back and release a good OS than rushing out the door and it's crappy (Vista?). I was excited about upgrading, but it'll come soon. My mbp will be almost a year old by the time leopard comes out.

I think the stock is definitely going to be on to watch. I think we'll see a slight dip in the coming weeks in short term stock value, but once the iPhone comes we're going to see a decent jump in price (possibly 100+). In the coming days, I think it will be a good opportunity to buy apple stock. If it goes from 80 to 100 per stock and you buy 1000 shares, you've made a cool 20k.

I'm no stock broker though.

How do people rate this as a positive thing? Common people, overall how could this be positive. This iPhone thing is driving me insane. I'm am well over the initial hype. It sure seems like apple hasn't done anything for a while. It seems like they stopped all production and productivity over a phone. How many people does it take to build an iphone? Everyone at apple? It seems as though apple has changed its focus from computers to iTunes, iPod and the iPhone. I am sick of all the advertisements about how apple got another contract to sell _______ movies. So whats the good news so far for apple this year? No DRM (oh wait thats in May), the iPhone back in January (but not until June), Leopard spring 07 (oh wait thats not until october). Here is an idea for apple, release a product, don't show it or talk about it being released in the future. Not good, not good at all!!!!

Ok. I read the first 7 pages of this thread. Now piling in a few thoughts of my own...

1. A delay of four months is much better than a delay of four (or more) years

2. The iPhone IS a computer. Apple dropped 'computer' because of a popular misconception that computer = desktop/laptop only.

3. Tiger is still streets ahead of Vista on most counts.

4. Has no-one else noticed how iPhone is now 'late June' rather than 'June'. Sneaky Apple!

5. I'm glad I bought my blackbook in February. :p

some poeple on here make you laugh...bloody hell

get a grip of reality

do you want apple to release the best OS on the market full of holes for you guys to moan about why they didnt spend enough time on it??

whats the rush, did 10.4 all of a sudden stop working or become obsolete??

its still miles ahead of vista..

all it means is that they have more time to perfect it.

some poeple need to grow up a bit

Dumb Move Apple!

Ok, this is just about the dumbest thing they have done in a long time.

Honestly, when we have been force fed with this garbage promotion of how Windows copies Apple OS and how LONG it takes MS to release an OS, they now give us "SORRY BUT BECAUSE OF THE iPHONE WE ARE DELAYED?"

!@£*&^£ THAT!

I have been waiting for this new OS for ages and a new MacBook Pro. What is this?

Up until now I have been considering buying the iPhone, but because of this idiotic stunt they just pulled...

My answer is NO THANK YOU!

I am boycotting that phone! Not to mention you cannot unlock the phone to make it work on any other vendor other than the one you bought it from is BS to me.

Thanks a yahoo Apple...

Set your priorities straight!!!

This means I'll get a lame MacBook Pro with MacOS 10.4.9 on steroids... We all know where that will lead us.

Oh and what ever happened to iLife? Hmm... If memory serves... it was delayed because of Leopard...

AND now this? Then we'll have Oct/Nov for a new release of the OS as well as a heap of apps?

I am deeply disappointed in this...

I cannot believe this is true...

If it is... Then this will be hard for apple to get out of... They are loosing the original loyal customers... Just cause they wanted to enter that 2% market share of mobile phones...

Way to go Steve...

This is sucks,
I am fine with Leopard takes more time because the cool, new, secret features. But to delay because the iPhone is pretty lame IMHO.

Way more people are interest in Leopard than iPhone. So if the iPhone needs to take the back seat, then so be it.

Anyway, just my rant, I am moving on, since get mad won't bring Leopard any faster.;)

No pre-emptive multitasking...

Given how much of a "show" Steve Jobs always has made about the constant delays Micro$oft, this is a bad precedent (and means he can no longer use this as a jab at them). It certainly shows Steve Jobs' focus can only multitask as well as Mac OS9... his "iPhone thread" has the CPU right now, and Steve does not pre-emptively multitask!

I would like to know who keeps voting negative all the time! Joking aside.

This is great news, I won't feel I have to buy a new mac now until October! Woo hoo!

Also note, I have not read any of this thread due to the perceived Mac boy whine factor contained within. May this post act as a shining beacon!

Looks like I'll have to break down and buy a new computer now. I sold my iMac G5 to my sister a month ago anticipating Leopard coming out soon. Right now I've only got my MacBook, and it's hard to do any video editing or web development on it's 13.3" screen.

Sent them an email

I already emailed the PR team (from the 1st post) expressing my disappointment. Everyone should send them an email and let them know how you feel.

Remember in 1996, one year prior to returning to Apple as iCEO, Steve Jobs was quoted as saying, "The PC wars are over. Microsoft won a long time ago. If I were the head of Apple, I would milk the Mac for all it's worth and then move on the next big thing."

He's true to his word. And no, I don't think today's announcement is "the end of the world"...but for Apple to survive it does need to continue to focus its resources on "the next big thing". In another decade the gizmos & gadgets and the Macs will merge into one. I think that is the legacy Jobs is intending to leave and this shift in Apple's focus lays the groundwork.

Stripped down Leopard is on the iPhone...the iPhone and the AppleTV are specialized Macs in disguise...Mac Leopard is delayed while work is completed on iPhone...iPods with full screens will become indistinguishable from iPhones...today's separate gadgets and computers are the grandparents of tomorrow's unified devices...

Jesus Christ, some of you people are acting like Steve Jobs himself took out a gun and shot 10 puppies on national TV while pissing all over the American flag at the same time.

It's a delay.

It's not the end of the world.

It's not like 10.4 is going to stop working.

It's not like your computer is going to be any less effective at doing the tasks it does now.

FFS people, lighten up!

Yee Haa!

The pit of despair is not deep enough yet, please start spreading the fear of Apple Apocalypse Inc. to friends, family, the public. I've been waiting for a good opportunity to purchase cheap Apple stock. Everybody sell! I want rock bottom prices for a company with good fundamentals, and a good long term perspective. Opps! I mean a company with horrible corporate structure and terrible propensity for lying. Liars! Bad Apple, bad! You promised me! I'm selling!

That's some pretty dumb misdirection. I'd much rather they delay Leopard to get it working right, than delay Leopard so they can get their dumb cell phone out the door. I think it must be the truth; if they were going to lie about it, they wouldn't make up a lie that would just piss people off so much more than the truth.

If Apple had technical difficulties with shipping Leopard on time, it will never say so. It is much easier (and less embarrassing) to blame it on the iPhone. After all, that is what the average joe have been waiting for and what the whole industry is anticipating.

Yeah, it kinda sucks. Nevertheless, I won't care come October as long as Leopard is stable, and not glitchy as hell. Besides, I'd much rather have the iPhone in June instead of *it* getting pushed back till October.

Well, at least the iPhone is still on schedule. That oughta keep the community busy for a couple of months.
Apple doesn't have any credibility anymore. They've been working on the phone for years. They are obviously BEHIND in development of the phone, thats why they had to steel from Leopard. They're going to TRY and make June, but I wouldn't be surprised to see that keep slipping too.

They're in over their heads with the stupid iPhone.

Well, this is pretty annoying. I'm currently saving for a new mac (my aging Power Mac G4 400Mhz is really showing it's age). I planned to purchase in June when Leopard came preinstalled. I still plan to buy in June because I just can't take using my old Mac anymore but now it's going to cost me even more to upgrade to Leopard/iLife when they come out. Knowing Apple, they won't offer a lower/free upgrade price. Several of my friends (one a potential switcher) were also waiting. Who knows what they'll end up doing. What really sucks is Apple has KNOWN this was coming for sometime and they even said the rumors weren't true a few weeks ago. I doubt a few weeks ago they didn't know there was going to be a 5 month delay!!

Scary!?!

This is really starting to get scary. What's up with Apple shoving Macs + OS X to the back of the line??

First at MACworld, no new MACS. Now sticking in a little PR joke announcement into the end of a press release as if it's just 'nothing'.

It is almost starting to really seem like Apple is trying to diversify too much and in a few years time, WAY too much. New products and markets are one thing, but this *is* the Mac market that we all care about and love. I'm not saying that the Mac desktop/desktop OS X will die within a year or two, but it's certainly looking like that could be a possibility in 5-10 years......which isn't all that long.

They're really playing this down way too much. No new, even small previews or updates on apple.com about Leopard in what, a year or so [or whatever], and then a little blurb major delay announced at the end of their release as if it's just a new line of white headphones? Downplaying is one thing, but keep our interests [and confidence] at bay like this is starting to look a bit odd and hesitant.

Lame. I remember when Apple was a computer company...

Am I the only one that wishes companies would stop announcing products that are nowhere near completion?
