I'd sooner they delay Leopard than come out with a buggy substandard product. I'm willing to wait. I may not be patient about it, and I may not have much of a choice,,, but I'll wait..

But you're missing the bigger picture. Apple doesn't seem to care about computers anymore. Will there be an update to the now dated line of computers? Will there be any price drops as parts prices are dropping like a rock?

Answer to all of these is leaning to NO. Apple is overreaching, is at a risk of losing their base. They can't jettison their computers and operating system, especially not now when they HAD a chance against Microsoft.

Maybe now is a good time for a Linux switch. At least Linux gets updated and PCs are now a heck of a lot cheapter.

i just hope this is not an omen of things to come....such as....

1. Apple gives up making computers

2. Apple gives up making OS

3. Apple gives up making iPod only device

4. Apple to concentrate cell phone industry.

Well I guess we might see the top-secret features at WWDC. Wow I'm so frustrated right now.

My Dad wants to purchase a damn Apple and then Apple has to put full dedication to that stupid damn iPhone. I honestly could give 2 ***** about a Phone.

wow.

or whatever was said during the last "Mac"world... the one whitout any Mac news, not much Mac stuff has been released since then. Apple dopping "computer"...

I think it's time to wake up and smell the coffee, computers are yesterdays technology. Apple is a visionary company, I don't think it will be long before the Mac is abandoned. Probably it will first be in the form of "we allow everyone to use OS/X" then license agreements whith some Chinese company to take over more and more of the manufacturing and then an outright sale of the Mac brand.

I predict this will have happened in 1-2 years time... People will bitch and moan for a while and then accept it then applaud Apple for it. (kind of like the Intel transition)

Well this sucks, but although I was looking forward to some of Leopard's features it isn't the end of the world. I can still happily use Tiger and have it run pretty well on my MacBook Pro and that saves my $230 (Leopard + another external hard drive) until October when I should have more money available to buy it.

And, let's make sure there are no hypocrites here. Everyone that have MS crap about Vista being delayed should now do the same for Apple.

Or, let's here the complaining about how the Mac is being abandoned.

1. Apple isn't in their 5th year of delays with Leopard. When we get to that point, you can start playing the "hypocrite" card.

2. Apple has done a lot more with the Mac since the release of Tiger (switch to Intel to name the biggie) so it's hard to accuse them of letting their platform languish the way MS did since XP. The analog to MS would be what they did for PCs since the release of XP which was basically a long list of bug fixing.

IOW, get back to me when Leopard is still being delayed in 2011.

Oh, c'mon, grow up! what's with all the "a-Ha!" moments? It's a simple acknowledgement that the development is far more complicated than can be reliably released on a predetermined date. It's still going to have everything that was promised, plus more, as opposed to that "other" long-delayed OS.

Oh, and "secret" means just that. You'll see it when it's released.

This is bone. So very bone....

Okay apple, get the mini cooking with C2D and I'll buy one right now..... leapord will have to be a christmas present!

Whilst a delay of a few months for Leopard is of no consequence, it is somewhat annoying that those of us in the United Kingdom cannot actually buy the iPhone in June - we'll get that way after Leopard, in (perhaps) January 2008...

Tiger seems to work just fine - which is more than I can say for Vista.

Whats up with the Macrumors RSS feed? This article is still not listed. I had to hear about it from a friend. Boo! - (i'm on top of this stuff)

How exactly are Apple's current computers "dated"? Does Intel currently have any faster Merom chips to stuff into the MacBooks, MacBook Pros, and iMacs? Nope. Does the Mac Pro not have the fastest quad-core Clovertons that Intel's producing, and well in advance of any other hardware manufacturers?

Heck, it feels like Apple doesn't even care about iPods anymore, considering how "long in the tooth" the 5.5G 30GB and 80GB models appear to be.

Get a grip, people!

That's going to hurt hardware sales short term. I know a lot of folks were waiting to buy something with 10.5 on it. Gives me more time to save up for a MBP instead of a MB, though. ;)

I'll go with this too. Although, it just gives me time to save for 2Gb of RAM and of course, Leopard.

I honestly don't mind the wait, I see it as Apple making sure they have a quality product to give us.

allow me to say, to all of those that vehemently argued about secret builds and leopard being just around the corner; to those people who claimed to be so well versed in software development that they knew for a fact there were advanced version just ready to be declared gold master -- suck it.

i hope to god you're not the ones whining about this because there were plenty of people here at MR telling you that this was going to happen. did you listen? no, just like every other OS X release the ignorant masses all pile on to rumors and conjecture about secret features, optimized builds and all sorts of other nonsense -- only to piss and moan when it gets released and it doesn't have the secret features, the build number is no different to the GM.

i'd like to think that as OS X 10.6 gets closer to launch that you guys would approach with a bit more temperance, but i doubt it. every time the fanbois outnumber the rational. every single time.

so enjoy the crow suckers.

The only thing is is that I was hoping to buy a MBP alongside Leopard... but now I will have to dish out another 70 dollars for the Family Pack so instead of having it shipped with the MBP. Now I am almost debating weather or not to wait for Leopard... I can see the endless threads in the "buying advice" forum now...

Well The MBP will be updated (maybe with the Santa Rosa)no later than the WWDC so you could get that then......or....you could put an extra 70 dollars in the bank (no biggy) during the summer and wait. If you need for school/work get it in the summer. ....But....if you wait..... then i wouldn't be suprised that a new computer/labtop lineup will be annouced no later than 3 months after your purchase

PS: NEW LINEUPS = NEW PROBLEMS

I for one, as a fairly recent "switcher" (within the past 2 years) thought that Apple was the shi* when I got my Powerbook. Now I have my MacBook Pro and I thought they were doing great things unveiling all these new products all the time. Then the iPhone started and I got worried.

Now that worry turns out to be for good reason. Good thing they are not calling themselves Apple Computer anymore, because they are not. I was SO close to buying an octo core mac pro, but now, IF I get a Mac desktop, it definantly wont be that thing. Quad core maybe, but no real support for a $5K machine until October? I don't think so!

very, very disappointing, but if it truly was down to an "iphone in june/leopard in october vs. leopard in june/iphone in october," then there's no question they made the right decision. Leopard is the more significant product for most people on this board, but as has been said several times, a delay to the iphone would have killed apple in the media.

The right way to do it would have been to release Leopard in June and announce the iphone at WWDC. That way it ships a few months later and everyone is happy. Having announced it in January, though, pushing it to October was not a good option.

Just found about this whilst on the Macworld UK forum. My first reaction is one of utter disappointment.

I've stashed away £800 for a new computer & was greatly looking forward to a new, updated Intel Mac with Leopard, & new editions of iLife & iWork. The only problem was putting off until June; I decided I'd wait after all (rather than buying a Vista PC). - Basically, the waiting was getting to me &, besides, I already have a PPC Mac.

Now, I'm going to have to carefully chew on this over the next few days & see how I feel. I'm too pissed off right now to make any major decisions, but October seems so far away.
