Whilst this is obvious bad news. I'm actually glad!!

I can now go ahead and buy a mac instead of trying to guess when Apple will release Leopard. There told us nothing since WWDC 2006, made us wait thinking everything was OK and now this.

Buying a new mac, but not very happy with Apple at all.

Way more people are interest in Leopard than iPhone. So if the iPhone needs to take the back seat, then so be it

Where are you people getting this from?

How many non-Mac users do you know that are salivating that being able to use Leopard?

AT&T has had hundreds of thousands of people inquire about the iPhone.

The iPhone isn't just for a bunch of tech-minded Apple fanatics. It's for everyone that's ever wanted or used a phone. It's proof of what the future of telecommunications will hold. And you Apple zealots need to understand that in order for Apple to survive as a company, it needs to branch out from just selling computers. This phone will make a lot of money for Apple, so all of the people whining in this thread will be able to enjoy the latest and greatest OS from Apple in the future.

This is VERY DISAPPOINTING.

  1. No iLife 07 at Macworld 2007
  2. No news on Top Secret features
  3. Now Leopard Delayed until October

Expect APPL shares to get hit tomorrow. So many people and potential switchers have put off Mac purchases on the hope of a Leopard release in Spring. This is not good news.

You have got to be kidding me. Now I have to either wait longer to get my new MBP or pony up $129 on top of my notebook purchase. Apple you suck.

And while we're at it, where the hell is iLife 07? I guess it is gonna be iLife 08 only? Why even bother buying a new notebook this year at all if I have to pay $200 on software till next January? Apple you just lost one buyer for this year.

This thread is ridiculous. Yeah, YOU guys care about Leopard, but think about what the public at large cares about? iPods, and the iPhone. An iPhone delay would be WAY worse for Apple's stock price than this Leopard delay. So, while somewhat disappointing, I'd much rather Leopard be delayed and work better AND have the iPhone out on time.

Plus, this helps me spread out my Apple spending: DRM-free music in May, iPhone in June, Leopard in October. Plus I'm sure we'll see more features shown off at WWDC now, rather than having everything sprung on us at once. Devs have more time to prep with a more final build... all in all I actually think this is a good thing. Based on what we already knew about architectural enhancements I don't think there was any question that this was the biggest upgrade of OS X yet. I'd rather have it be guaranteed to work well.

I agree... Apple needs to decide what core business it's in and make sure to put that as it's highest priority. I hope that's computers with good OS's. If it's telephones, I'm a little worried.

This is really starting to get scary. What's up with Apple shoving Macs + OS X to the back of the line??

First at MACworld, no new MACS. Now sticking in a little PR joke announcement into the end of a press release as if it's just 'nothing'.

It is almost starting to really seem like Apple is trying to diversify too much and in a few years time, WAY too much. New products and markets are one thing, but this *is* the Mac market that we all care about and love. I'm not saying that the Mac desktop/desktop OS X will die within a year or two, but it's certainly looking like that could be a possibility in 5-10 years......which isn't all that long.

They're really playing this down way too much. No new, even small previews or updates on apple.com about Leopard in what, a year or so [or whatever], and then a little blurb major delay announced at the end of their release as if it's just a new line of white headphones? Downplaying is one thing, but keep our interests [and confidence] at bay like this is starting to look a bit odd and hesitant.

Tiger will be 2 and a half years old by the time Leopard comes out. Not bad at all for a new OS. People are acting like this is the apocalypse and Apple doesnt care about Macs anymore.

Get a grip and a sense of perspective.

For god's sake, most of us who can afford it will buy an iPhone, and virtually all of us will buy Leopard when it comes out so please stop whining.

Looks like I'm going to force my Dad to just buy a Mac now, and if Leopard is OH SO GREAT he can just upgrade for whatever the price is.

Apple actually planned on releasing it in June, which is still considered Spring but is pretty damn deceiving. When Steve said "Spring 07" at WWDC 06, he actually meant WWDC 07. But with this iPhone that I can't afford, I won't be able to touch Leopard until October.

I want to see how Steve explains himself at WWDC about this.

What a crock

This is all just a cover up for the fact that Leopard is still buggy as hell. I mean, sure they want the iPhone ready for June, but think about it - it's only going on sale in the USA in June. Most other countries have to wait until 2008 before they get it.

Leopard was meant to come out in June, and would have been released GLOBALLY. There are approximately 270 million people in the USA, but the world's population is 6,000 million. So it stands to reason that this decision is not financially motivated... Personally I don't give a toss about iPhone. The phone market is already saturated. But there is only one OS X. And I want it now please!

I wonder if this will have a trickle-on effect for planned Mac hardware releases, ie. will they delay an update to the Mac Mini because of this?

Hmm...

(Sorry if anyone has already had a similar blabble such as this - I couldn't read through all eight pages of posts).

**** the iPhone! Im sorry but it has to be said, the iPhone will be only available to 10% of the world in June and how many people will buy Leopard over the iPhone?!

They let us know that at MacWorld. They dropped the Computer from Apple Computer to reflect the different products that they sell, which would include Macs, iPods, and the iPhone.

But honestly...I don't mind waiting. As long as the don't pull a Vista...delay it for years, then still release a piece of **** that doesn't work...lol

  1. I guess I will not be buying that new MBP any time soon
  2. Proves that Apple is becoming more of CE company than computer company
  3. Time to short Apple stock :D
  4. I don't believe iPhone will be a major success in the first few incarnations
  5. Proves Apple is not really that much better than Microsoft in terms of project/resource scheduling (OK it's not 2 yr delay but it's a delay)
  6. Makes me look at those Apple Mac/PC ads even more unfavourably

:D

1. Why? Today or tomorrow's MBP will run 10.4.9 and Leopard, and are better than what you have now if you were considering an upgrade.
2. Really? The Mac is a key part of Apple's digital hub strategy and half their revenue. Trust me, Apple has an interest in growing HALF of their entire revenue.
3. Time to buy Apple's stock at a sub-$90 value. You should have shorted it BEFORE this news. That's how it works.
4. You don't believe the most hyped Apple product in the history of the company will meet their 1% market share predictions? You should do your market research.
5. You're ironically comparing apples to oranges here (or Microsofts). Vista was delayed for YEARS. This is delayed a few months because Apple believes in quality.
6. I'm sorry for your loss.

 Was looking forward to a new mbp with santa rosa and leopard. What do I do now, Wait till bloody october. This really sucks! :(

[insert "sad mac" face here]

I'm bummed, my Mac Pro has been waiting for a 64-bit Mac OS since December. :(

Oh, and what about iLife '07? I know Apple, Inc. was waiting until the June release of Leopard, but now they might as well release it now...

Leopard is not a new OS. It's simply an update of OS 10. A new OS would be OS 11. Two and a half years for one decimal point update is a long, long time. Maybe Tiger will become the new XP SP2?

And Apple's worldwide marketshare is FAR smaller than its US marketshare. What a spurious argument.

I'm amazed at how many global computer business experts there are on this forum. One would think you would have better things to do than post here.

Wow digitimes was right, albiet for a stupid reason that doesnt make a damn bit of sense, but still got the month right.

I love how these delayed products always magically end up landing perfectly on the busiest 2 months of the of the shopping season. Either October or November. Every time. I have yet to see a single product get delayed to the middle of the summer or august/sept. Coincidence?

Apple's news should come as no surprise.

After all, Apple Inc. is a consumer electronics company that just happens to sell computers compatible with their consumer electronics. When the company dropped "Computer" from its name, that should have been a clear indication of Apple's priorities.

The iPhone may spur a few switchers to try Apple's computers, just as the iPod has done. Delaying the iPhone would mean delaying quite a few potential switchers.

By contrast, only a very few potential switchers will delay their switch because of Leopard's release date. Delaying Leopard will not decrease Apple's marketshare among computer users.

Of course we want all our goodies right now. But while Apple might be making the wrong decision for a computer company, it is making exactly the right decision for a consumer electronics company.

This is also, in all likelihood, a way to "save face" about the overall bugginess of the current Leopard builds, without actually having to directly own up to that bugginess. Apple is far better off releasing a rock-solid Leopard in October, instead of a buggy version in June.
