What's your situation in relation to a MacBook Pro?

Brandon, don't do it! The only reason I can understand why someone would buy the current model is if they absolutely need the thing right now. If you wait, like 90% of us are, when the new model is released, I'm sure you will be very happy you chose to wait. If there are any new additions or redesigns to this next model, you will have that joy of owning the latest and greatest, for 6-8 months, and THEN you will have the old stuff haha.

But again, none of that matters if you need the machine now, or if you simply do not care about having the latest and greatest.

The bottom line is that this is the way technology is. You have to pull the trigger somewhere and just be happy, but in this case, we are so close to an update, personally I would wait if I were you.

Mashoutposse, my friend that works at the Apple Store said that I could use the friend discount? So that's my dilemma right now, use this discount or to hold off.

Bayol05, thanks... I guess I kinda needed that. I still have my 12 inch which is still trucking along in class but I think I'm at the point where I just need MORE POWER!!! I just want more bang for my buck with the MBP so hopefully Apple will listen and freakin' update!!!

Brandon,

The friend discount for in store purchase of anything is 10%.

They also have a family and friend discount for 15% that they get three of every year. The catch is that you have to order online in the local Apple Store. The employees use a internal online store behind their firewall that is for these discounts, not only will you have to wait for shipping, but you will have to wait about a month or so for the new products to show up on that internal online store AFTER they are announced.

1) See if your friend is willing to hook you up with the 15%, and then see if you are willing to wait an EXTRA month or so after they are announced for the extra 5%. There are your options. I am struggling with the same exact options, I have friends at my local Apple Store. I am afraid I will not be able to wait after I see these things announced which will end up costing me 5%....oh, greed.

I need a replacement for my Powerbook G4. The logic board is no longer accepting a charge, so I absolutely can't get power to it.

(Well, I could buy a new battery each and every time the battery dies, but that's overkill).

So, I'm waiting on a new Macbook Pro to be released. And I'm saving up more and more money for it. The longer they wait to update them, the better the chances are of me snagging a 17 inch model. Or at least a super high-end 15incher. I dunno.

Still, I expect to see them within 2 weeks. Early Feb. at the latest.

Ahh... I see. She didn't mention that little detail. Oh well. So what college do you go to?

Chapman University. Dodge College of Film and Media Arts. I just finished my degree in Digital Arts.

Ahh, nice. So we aren't too far away. We should start an L.A./Orange County college support group for the "mentally ill" Apple users! :D When Apple's secrecy over updates takes over ones' life, something needs to be done.

I will buy a topped-out 15". I just returned the unopened one I bought before MacWorld, anticipating new ones arriving.

I just got my SR macbook to replace my blackbook in November, but now with tax returns creeping into my pockets (and my new Nikon) I am most certainly going to sell this macbook and upgrade to the macbook pro, as is my fiance. So, add me to the list!!!!

I'm really pulling for the end of February at the latest, then at least I won't have to wait while I actually HAVE the money

Let's go :apple:!!!

I've been waiting since November for the money to buy a MBP now I have the money and I am still waiting!

I really hope they release it at the latest next month. I don't think I can wait any longer!

i am pretty glad i didnt wait to buy my mbp last week as there STILL has not been an update. this baby can handle everything i throw at it (which is quite a bit), and is such a joy to use. for those of you who really need one now, or are going insane waiting, just pick one of the current models up. for those of you who have the luxury of waiting, or demand being at the cutting edge of technology.... wait for an upgrade. however i must warn you - if you are the type of person who insists on having the newest technology, you will never be happy :p ... unless you are very very rich.

I feel as though you are rubbing your amazing MBP in my face :p

I'll just stare my box with CS3 in it and use my craptastic emac until an update happens...

Guys, I photoshopped my guess at the new MacBook Pro based on what most people are expecting...before and after. Enjoy!

Posted back in October eh? Well there's only about a week left in January so we'll see. I can only hope.

this is really killing me, i'm really hoping for an update next week :( i can't believe everything i hear it teases me and i'll only be disappointed, at this rate if i get my first mac i've been waiting so long i might be getting too excited!

Sort of add me to the list

I need a new computer to play Age of Conan when it is released in May so if the new MPB comes with a nice GPU I will buy one. Otherwise a Mac Pro, but ideally I want a smaller and more portable machine.

Black-Ray

I'm also going to buy one as soon as it gets updated.

Hoping for:
1. New Intel CPU
2. New GPU
3. Blue-Ray
4. Black colored restyling possibly also for the outside shell.

Apple please make it fast :)

Engadget is reporting that Sony just unveiled their Penryn notebook (new VAIO AR series) shipping on Jan 29. This can only be good news. Penryn delays? Perhaps not...

Hum.. i was just browsing sony and they really have nice laptops.

With same specs as low 15'' MBP + Blue Ray = $1900

Dunno about the graphic card...

I ordered a iMac for a client on Monday 21st. It was a standard entry level imac with no changes. The site said 24hrs to ship. We also ordered a 2.4 ghz with a few options, but i got our Sales manager to separate the two orders so the standard mac should ship straight away.

I called today as still no iMac. They said that the 2.4 iMac was in Shanghai being built and the standard config was in the UK. I asked what stage the UK one was at and they said it hadn't been built...... They couldn't explain why as it was a entry level machine. The site is still showing 24hrs shipping. He said it will ship on the 28th Jan, so in theory it should arrive 29th (tues).

So is this iMac being held back for Penryn? I'm one of 1000's waiting for the refresh to the MBP, so i'm really starting to think the update is going to happen very soon!

Quandry

I have a good working powerbook so i'm not really in a hurry. However as i've had it for about 4.5 years i want to make sure the replacement lasts as long. So do i take the next new mbp with an incremental speed bump i'm sure this will have all the revision a issues ironed out. Or do i wait for the next big step later in the year i'm sure these will be completely different in every respect but then i have the revision a worries aw shucks i know whatever i take it has to last me another 4.5 years so i'm really gonna weigh it up!!

Hello. This is actually my first post on this forum. I have been waiting and just couldnt wait any longer(I didnt have a mac at all). My reasoning is that there will probably not be a case redesign until later in the year anyway. The 2.2 I got this morning is a bit weak on harddrive space but it is still a smoking fast machine. I crammed 4GB of ram in it and I should be good to go until the fall or next year if I just cant live without the new design. I dont really think theres anything wrong with older macs.... I love seeing some guy or gal in a bookstore with a well used Ti-Book cranking away at something.

PS: we went through three in the store because of the "dark/yellow" screen thing. All of the floor models has a slightly detectable darkness at the bottom too. I think this is a "feature" of the LED TFT's that are in the pro's. The one I took home is matte and has a bareley noticable cast to it. I dont feel like going through the trouble of 10 or more machines to find a perfect one. I can live with it. It will be a dinosaur in two years anyway.
