I need a 17" Macbook Pro!!!! But i don´t wanna buy the current model, i think is too old. I wanna see new keyboard and trackpad, more hd options and video cards. (And Penryn of course) i´m fed up with the way of Apple in the last years, i think thy are going in the way of Microsoft, just caring about get money and forget about users. A lot of gadgets, but what´s happen with hardware and OSX? Leopard is full of bugs, (more than 100 fixes in 10.5.2), and mac pro / macbook pro have the same desing of PPC models, just speed bumps and mor BTO options. Leopard was delayed and they told us, sorry, but we have to finish iphone, now it´s the same stuff with the useless macbook air and the true update of the macbook pro. So Apple, give us our brand new macbook pro now!!!!!

one more thing.... ACD´s : no comment

I caved in and bought a 2.4 glossy MBP from ecomelectronics.com for 2199 new. I got it shipped overnight except they screwed up my address so Ill have it thursday now.. grrr. I just need the mac before spring term so i can get it set up for programming.

I'm waiting for a MBP not because I want a better videocard, not because I want a better trackpad or a new design. All I want right now and hope that it will be part of the update or the new release is the 17'' LED display at 1900x1200 or the 15'' LED with 1900x1200 resolution. More RAM it will cost more to buy one, more space on the HD, nahh buy a TimeCapsule 1TB. So I'm waiting just for the upgraded display of the 17'' to LED.

Yes it is annoying waiting for it! Every Tuesday or any day but I'm waiting since last summer so a few weeks (I hope) or a few months I can manage.

So let's just hope that we're not left aside from all the media twister that the MBA is making.

:apple::)

It seems like this forum has sort of died downy since there was no announcement today. But we can still speculate right? Who thinks we are going to be waiting weeks, and who thinks we are going to be waiting a month or more? Also what's the consensus that the likely new trackpad and keyboard will bring a new design to the table?

Count me in!

It is my first mac because in Europe you dont pay $1999 for a MacBookPro, you pay 1999€ wich is....

$2 899.6 !

And since this is a very big spendt, i tend to get the most out of it. Right know i need a portable because mine just dont work correct, but since i have a desktop, i can do most of the work there.

Will wait what i need to get a Mac, but not too much..

It hasn't died down, we're just all pissed.

We should put together a "letter", rather one that asks Jobs to release the new MBP and has the list of users who are waiting. Then via, copy and paste, send it to Steve.

I don't think, at this point, that a letter would do anything with the release date.

What really ticks me off though, is the keeping every release date secret part. Other computer manufacturers give out info about release dates all the time, and it doesn't seem to hurt their sales too much.

It's quite easy - I'm not buying an MBP until it's updated. I want to know how long I have to wait. Any other IT manufacturer would announce dates in advance for the benefit of their customers. Apple like to shaft theirs at any fiscal opportunity.

Tell me when I can have a new MBP, and I'll buy it. If not, it'll be a £300 loss to Apple and I'll buy a referb.

Doug

Where is the fun in release dates and road maps. I don't see my friends who use Sony Vaio laptops constantly checking forums for updates on on a Tuesday and then getting upset because Sony introduced a violet Walkman. Only we get to enjoy this past time.

Waiting for Apple updates is a hobby, it certainly passes the time at work!:D

I'm waiting for a new MBP as my first personally owned (rather than work) mac :D

and yes, its a wonderful way to kill time on a quiet day in the studio

I had my fingers crossed for a 13" MBP ultra mobile for $1,500. No luck with that so I am waiting for the new MBP to come out. I havent "switched" yet so I might as well wait till the new products come out.

Hm, does anybody have any mockups?
Nothing like a good mockup whilst we're all waiting..

And a current heads-up on a front page 9to5mac poll:

In your opinion, what was missing from Macworld 2008?

New Displays? With built-in Cameras? 15% (997 votes)
DRM Free iTunes 6% (412 votes)
MacBook Pro Updates? Penryn? 35% (2392 votes)
Tablet? 11% (736 votes)
Midrange Mac 10% (711 votes)
iPhone hardware. 3G, 16Gb? 18% (1220 votes)
Other. 5% (332 votes)

I think the poll question would be important to know...

It is:

In your opinion, what was missing from Macworld 2008? :D

I went there just to vote for the MBP. If anyone hasn't and feels like doing so here's the link:

I wouldn't buy now if my only choice was to buy at Apple's MSRP. The current model is a good bet if you can save a few hundred bucks on eBay or craigslist.

Brandon, don't do it! The only reason I can understand why someone would buy the current model is if they absolutely need the thing right now. If you wait, like 90% of us are, when the new model is released, I'm sure you will be very happy you chose to wait. If there are any new additions or redesigns to this next model, you will have that joy of owning the latest and greatest, for 6-8 months, and THEN you will have the old stuff haha.

But again, none of that matters if you need the machine now, or if you simply do not care about having the latest and greatest.

The bottom line is that this is the way technology is. You have to pull the trigger somewhere and just be happy, but in this case, we are so close to an update, personally I would wait if I were you.

According to the recent article on MR/AI, the new MBPs will be out within the next several weeks. In my opinion, I think we will be waiting until mid-Feb. because at that point the MBA will have already shipped and there will have been some time for the buzz to die down, and the mobile Penryn chips, which are rumored to have been delayed, will hopefully have started shipping in large numbers. Now, on the topic of a new design, I don't really know if it will happen this time, and frankly I don't really care. In fact, contrary to popular belief, I like the current MBP design, including the keyboard :O

I've also read somewhere that Apple hasn't been working too much on the MBP update because of the extra staff needed for the MBA, now that that's out, you can be comfortable knowing that Apple is working on it.

And to brandon.vong, I'm in the same boat as you, but I'm holding out as best as I can. Unfortunately, I can't afford to wait much longer because I'm gonna need a MBP for school in March, but hopefully the new ones will be out by then.
