Woo hoo! I see the logic in only having FW800, but just I hope this isn't another teenie step in a phase-out of FireWire.
I don't think FireWire will ever be phased out. It may not be as useful as USB, but its steady rate of data transfer will always make it more viable for working with digital media. However, I do think FireWire 800 will be phased out soon as FireWire 3200 comes to market.

Please noobs, cut out all the smiley spam.

As for firewire, it's here to stay. It's one of THE fastest data transfer mediums.

whoever posted that image in this thread killed it, now people associate the news with the image, which are mutual

wait! who spotted them? Where is this source? I WANT MORE!!! I WANT A PICTURE!

Well, I don't know if it is legit or not, but I picked this picture off of www.iphonesavior.com

Check out the touch pad. Looks like the screen of an iphone AND you can see the dock in it.

Fake or not, pretty darn cool.

But you make it sound as if the MBP is very average. Just exactly what specs are so outdated that weren't high-end when the MBP was updated in February. Other than going to a desktop CPU version, and a desktop GPU, what updates is Apple so behind on. Montevina, slightly faster penryns, blu-ray, SSD, and updated GPUs are the only thing on the table at the moment.
Well, IMO what signifies a professional machine is that you can configure the hell out of it to fit your needs. To name but a few examples...

- On a 15.4" Dell Precision, you can choose between 1280x768, 1440x900, 1680x1050 and 1920x1200(!) screens. On a 15.4" MacBook Pro, you get 1440x900 that's it.

- On aforementioned Dell, you can get a regular 7200 RPM hard drive, or one with a free fall sensor (for people who work in computer-unfriendly environments), or a 64 GB SSD. On the MBP you get a standard 7200 RPM drive. And for a very long time you could only get a 5400 RPM drive, long after the 7200 RPM drives were commonplace in PC notebooks.

- On the Dell, you can add 3G/HSDPA broadband. On the Mac... not.

- On the Dell, you can add a fingerprint reader for security purposes. On the Mac... not.

- On the Dell, you can choose between a 6- cell or a 9-cell battery (mobility vs. battery life). You can even add a secondary 6-cell battery (goes in the modular bay). And an extra 9-cell on top of that. On the Mac, you get... well, a battery.

- For the Dell, you can add a desktop stand/dock/port replicator which gives you 4 additional USB ports, full sized DVI port etc. The Mac only comes naked.

Apple's rigid 'one size fits all' approach doesn't strike me as sensitive to the individual needs of professionals.

Excited!

A major redesign of the notebooks? Bring it on!

It'd be smart if Apple standardizes their DVI ports, so multiple MB/MBP/MBA/Mini owners will only have to lug around one set (here in the Philippines, I could buy a decent pair of football (FIFA, not NFL) shoes for the price of a VGA to Mini DVI adapter). If micro-DVI doesn't pose any output quality problems or issues (Dual-link support), then they should standardize everything with micro-DVI.

Expects:
LED displays on all notebooks.
2GB RAM for entry-level MacBook?
Multi-touch on the MacBook (a truly innovative plus-point to OS X).
No more combo drives?
Better graphics for both notebooks (probably X4500 for MB and 9600 for MBP).

Side-note: Apple needs to refresh or redesign the Mac Mini too. :p

It may be a stupid questions but any help would be appreciated:

When a new model of a apple comp (macbook in my case) comes out, what will happen to the older stock? What do they normally do with them, do they sell them at a cheaper price? What is the deal?

I am not so sure I like the look of aluminium and really like the current black plastic macbook. I am waiting until the new model comes out in the hope that either a) I will actually love the new model and it will be worth buying OR b) The previous black macbooks will have dropped in price enough to validate buying one of them over the new model.

What generally happens in these situations????

Thanks:eek:

Anybody know?????????
Thanks!

In case you are bit dee de dee and didn't catch on at first look that it's fake. Here you go..
http://gizmodo.com/tag/Stupid-rumormongers/

Don't listen to that guy
ok he doesn't know a word he's saying
Because when people do mockups, they take it from an existing model(wich come from Apple) and add or remove parts.

Well, if it would have been a fake, the guy that photoshopped it would have taken a macbook air, made it thicker, and add stuff so the perspective would have been good.

So yeah, i still think its the real deal

You wanna prove a rumor by using another rumor? Well... good luck.

yes and no. if you think about it, if the screen does turn out to be 16:9, that would be some concrete proof that this is real. the reason i say this is because 1. that would take some incredible photoshop skills and 2. i doubt the person who "made" this would have taken the time to include such precise measurements.

so whoever wants to do some measurements in photoshop, go for it.

one other thing to note is that the table it is on is TYPICAL of the wood tables found in ALL Apple stores and I'm guessing potentially at Apple HQ as well.

It's 16:10. Which, again, proves nothing since this blatantly obvious fake is more warped than a Salvador Dali painting...
