Anyone else not impressed so far? Its literally just a 9.7" iPod Touch. Running iPhone apps in full-screen is not going to be a good experience. Plus no mention of multitasking yet!

Yes me, I just try to figure out: Who needs this device?

I can't even custom develop some software for it because it has to go through the App-Store :-(

I take it you have some sort of better idea?

Its nice to tear things down, but from my experience so far the ipod touch is the best touchscreen experience you can get. So what exactly were you picturing?

Since it's just an bigger iPod touch, which not get an iPod touch for cheaper, and have better portability as well?

Name: bad
Form Factor: ugly
Inside: disappointing
Memory: little
Apps Compatibility: nice
Apps Utilization: sucks
Battery Life: long
Price: ?

The people on U-stream are saying they won't pay a grand for this!! haha! Glad I'm not alone on that!

Still it's pretty cool!

There's gotta be something more to this. If there isn't, I'm gonna have to agree with the "just a big iPod touch" posters.

Yeah, no inspiration for the homescreen, lockscreen. The lockscreen looks especially bad. Seems like Apple just phoned it in on this one, and I do mean that as a pun

That's a ridiculous statement. "ARM architecture" defines merely the instruction set. All of the RTL, logic gates, circuits, physical design was done by Apple. That's like saying AMD's Opteron wasn't "completely original" because "it's just one implementation of the x86 architecture."

That's not true. ARM designs a lot more than the command set. It produces everything up to in-silicon design. Read here: http://www.arm.com/news/25922.html

This thing is so disappointing, I mean it's literally a giant iPod touch. I thought they would have done more here, but I don't see anything exciting.

Mighty disappointing so far. A 9.7" iPhone with no phone. No multi tasking, no flash. I don't even understand what I'm supposed to do with it. I'm a guy, I don't have a purse, how would I carry it around? Too big for pockets, too small for laptop-like bags. Just a weird product.

That is one fugly thing!
And have you seen that interface? I can't believe they just copied the complete iPhone interface, nothing special.
Please pretty please, One More Thing: and Steve gets the REAL iPad out

- Can run existing apps in a small box in center of screen or can pixel double to run full screen. Demoing. Showing off Facebook and ESPN snowcross game.

- App Store available on iPad and will feature both iPad-only and iPhone apps. Gameloft now on stage with a demo.
Exactly as I thought.

The OS/GUI seems to be closer to the iPhone OS than Mac OS X, also as I expected.

Form factor.

I can't wait to have this have all my books and sitting on my lap/desk for note taking in class.

So no new MacBook Pros. And this iPad looks exactly as some (and myself) predicted. A giant iPod touch! Excellent!....not.

We havnt got to the end of the presentation...they've only gone through one product and you're already assuming there will be no MBPs?!? Think about it...

I'm real curious to know what player they're using to play the videos inside the New York Times App.

Another way of looking at it - a glorified big iPhone with low resolution. I think if the screen size was the size of a four iphones (or doubled each size) - then this would have been cool.

Too bad Apple is introducing a device with low pixel density, and a form factor that will have ergonomic experts up in arms.
