How "not attractive" to me.

How about updating the MacBook Pros?

You know. Doing something that we all WANT.

I already have an iPad...it's called the iPhone.

Let me get this straight

You shove a 1GHz chip and 10 hours of battery life into it but you, most likely, are going to say Flash would slow it down - give me an effing break. All those Facebook apps that are so wildly popular - flash. Good thing they didn't go to facebook.com because then people who were thinking about getting this thing would realize facebook on the iPad is just as worthless as facebook on the iPhone (good for catching up with people but you can't use the apps).

Color me, like others, unimpressed...

I think all people on the stage who demonstrate iPad look uncomfortable. It's just too big to hold.

Also, the design is not completely original because because it's just one implementation of ARM architecture.

That's a ridiculous statement. "ARM architecture" defines merely the instruction set. All of the RTL, logic gates, circuits, physical design was done by Apple. That's like saying AMD's Opteron wasn't "completely original" because "it's just one implementation of the x86 architecture."

Looks like the best tablet platform ever. THIS is the future of tablets, folks.

If by that you mean, "This is the Macbook Air of tablets.", then I agree 100%. I don't think that's either good nor bad in saying that.

Very interested :)

I'm not dissapointed since this actually what I was expecting; something along the lines of a bigger iPhone.

The important question. Is there any way for an enthusiast to try the SDK and the simulator? Is there a fee? Please explain to a non-apple developer.

There's gotta be something more to this. If there isn't, I'm gonna have to agree with the "just a big iPod touch" posters.

Wow, that thing is ugly, very ugly. Just a giant iPhone, that black border is so thick...

Own chip? ****... that means... you decide what apps I would be able to run (if I were to buy that ugly thing...).
What a waste! Basically you've spent most of the r&d for the chip (which is good but no investment on better usability), the rest is just a big iPhone :/

"own chip" doesn't mean what you think it means. It's just a proprietary Apple chip with an ARM core (or 2 ARM cores - haven't seen any word on multi-core yet.) This is a certainty because it runs iPhone apps out of the box. They couldn't emulate the ARM on another chip and get the speed and long battery life.

We already knew that Apple would decide what apps you can run. Did you think it wouldn't be bound to the App Store? So, doesn't matter what chip.

I'm sure it will be jailbroken, for those who want to go rogue...

IMO, "glorified iPhone" is a GOOD thing. Otherwise, it's just a Netbook without a keyboard.

I except and hope to see my devices in sunlight, so I'm happy with IPS :)

IPS has nothing to do with being able to see it in sunlight. In fact this appears to have the classic glossy screen which we all know how well that is to read outside.

Although, the fact that it is IPS is really sweet. I was really worried that it would be TN which would just kill this device, given how much flipping you are supposed to do with it. It's great to see more IPS screens coming out in smaller sizes now- if anything this could be a sign of the future where TN gets phased out and IPS starts appearing in laptops, etc.

Are you kidding? Its a 9.7" iPod Touch. Thats it!

I take it you have some sort of better idea?

Its nice to tear things down, but from my experience so far the ipod touch is the best touchscreen experience you can get. So what exactly were you picturing?

I don't remember seeing any multi-tasking capability either. With the specs it has, I doubt it's able to do it either. Not really what I personally want from a device that doesn't seem to be truly mobile either (No 3G mentioned yet either?)

May as well use a 13" Macbook Pro.

And, 10 hours of battery life? Lucky if you can get half
with the internet on.

Love apple products, but I must say the batteries are the worst.

WoW, Apple, even this thing can't multitask! JUST WOW. No way the iPhone will ever be able to w/o jailbreak then.

IPS has nothing to do with being able to see it in sunlight. In fact this appears to have the classic glossy screen which we all know how well that is to read outside.

I've had better luck seeing my iPhone's screen in the sun than the OLED devices I've encountered. But the last time I saw one in person was 6 months ago, so perhaps I'm woefully out of date.

So no new MacBook Pros. And this iPad looks exactly as some (and myself) predicted. A giant iPod touch! Excellent!....not.

So far a bit disappointed. A big iPod. Nothing groundbreaking in terms of interaction or applications. Won't it be a bit difficult to play games on this big a hand held device since you need both hands on the sides - and then the controls in the center of the screen, e.g. for FPS? Hmm.... And watching films on this - who wants to hold this in their hands watching a whole movie? You'll soon tire and wish it was standing on something. Oh well, if the price is low enough it is NICE and LOOKING good but... let's see. I think it'll be a slow and tough take-off for Apple, unless something turns up that you can't do on the iPod/iPhone.

EDIT: And e-reading... nobody (hardly) wants to read books like this. Maybe a couple of articles in a newspaper but I think Kindle etc with a more paper like display will be better and better on your eyes when using for a longer period.
