Wow. I waited for this.
Big 'ol iPod Touch.
I was hopping for a real computer with DVD and
USB for external mouse/keyboard when needed.

I bet it runs in the 599 to 799 range depending on
memory.

Wow. Can't believe I waited 3 years for this!

Giant iPhone?

It reminds me of something...

So a giant iPhone that runs iPhone apps pixel-doubled? Sweet.... not. And only up to 64GB of flash? Not enough real estate inside that beast to jam a bit more? Sigh.

And I'm guessing zip, zilch, nada, zero for multitasking...

I think my greatest concern right now is the hardware disparity and an additional platform for the developers.

Zooming into iPhone sized applications and getting doubled pixels just isn't very Apple. It shouldn't be that hard to update interfaces but an annoyance nonetheless.

Please Apple, demo some artistic creation applications and not just content consumption stuff...
It really feels like an extension device. Though Apple wants to call it a netbook killer. An updated iPod Touch would probably get me to open up the checkbook. :p

If one belives all the rumors, some of us waited for a decade ;)

In a sick way I really hope they don't release tablet just to make all of the constant rumors, speculation, and 4th hand information false. Especially the rumors that state "The Apple table will have...", when they have no idea.

I also believe that if they do release one it will be somewhat underwhelming in relation to all of the stock-pumping rumors, but still potentially cool.

If nothing else, I hope something is released so people will stop speculating about it.

EDIT: I had this post sitting around. Got busy and finally put it up, and just got to check out some live blogs. So far, it's exactly what I thought. A giant iPod Touch, with standard features available on every other computer/tablet, and the only thing "revolutionary" about it is it's Apple designed GUI. If anyone expected anything more then you haven't been following Apple releases for very long.

Edit: Not that it's awful, but just standard. The only thing that separates this from anything else is the UI, but that's pretty much the most important thing for a touch screen computer; and is the same reason the iPhone is so popular.

IPS rocks. I long for my old Thinkpad A31p with the beautiful 1600x1200 IPS screen. (One of these days I'm going to renew the dried-up heatsink compound and get it working reliably again.)

Biggest disappointment with my 13" MacBook is the crappy screen with the narrow view angle. Colors shift as you tilt the screen, and there's a very narrow "sweet spot" for viewing.

Not so with IPS. Wide view angles, both horizontal and vertical, with no color shift. This thing is made for sharing.

I completely agree. Contrast and brightness of my Dell monitor (IPS) it looks beautiful. Amazing viewing angle. If I was to pick any display for this type of device it would be this.

Anyone else not impressed so far? Its literally just a 9.7" iPod Touch. Running iPhone apps in full-screen is not going to be a good experience. Plus no mention of multitasking yet!

So far it's an epic fail for me, it looks like they've thought about it from the perspective of making money from the user. Not even considered what the user might want, is apple becoming Microsoft? Honestly this is by far one of the worst products I've ever seen Apple release. It's a non multi tasking giant iPod Touch

Utter junk
