How do I check the log?

I found the issue at the bottom of this post but just for informational purposes

In the screenshot you see Error: see /opt/.... main.log for details.

You can open this logfile using for ex. :

open -a TextEdit /opt/local/..the complete path/main.log

My apologies, still haven't figured when I post 2 replies after each other in a short timeframe why they become merged into 1 post

Already found the issue , your Macports version is 2.4.1 not 2.3.4 as linked on the 1st page .
Looks like either Macports proposed to update itself or you have installed a newer version ?

Here is the link to uninstall Macports so you can start a clean install again

I downloaded the version linked on the first page. I'll just have to search for 2.3.4.

EDIT:
Picture 4.png

This is exactly what I've already installed. Maybe I should just install it again?

EDIT 2: After installing again, the version shows as 2.3.4! Now I'll try installing qt4 again.

EDIT 3: Still fails. :(
Picture 5.png

Yes, I uninstalled MacPorts using the command you linked and then reinstalled.
[doublepost=1490459465][/doublepost]Know what, I think I'm gonna try from a clean install of Leopard.

Clean install might indeed be the best approach, not sure why Macports is giving you such a hard time.

pochopsp Dronecatcher What version of Xcode did you install ? ( You can find it in /Developer/Applications/Xcode.app )

I updated mine from 3.1.1 to 3.1.4 but no longer know wether it worked with Xcode 3.1.1 also ?

I have Xcode 3.1.1 and MacPorts 2.4.1
That's exactly what I had installed the first time! I always have really bad luck with these things for some reason. :p
[doublepost=1490463859][/doublepost]Xcode installing on my Mac mini now, going to try SMTube on there.

Would it be possible to use something besides TonVid in SMTube? Right now it looks like the UI is just TonVid. It'd be great if we could use mobile YouTube. That would allow me to view my suggestions and subscriptions.
[doublepost=1490464739][/doublepost]Tried on my Mac mini, didn't even get into the qt4 installation this time. Says "Error: Port qt4-mac not found". This is like the time I tried installing Tiger on my Clamshell. :D Nothing I try works.
[doublepost=1490465401][/doublepost]Tried again on my mini for absolutly no good reason, installing now, it's gotten pretty far into the install process! Of course it's going to fail at the end. Just figured I'd update you so nobody goes searching for the reason why it said qt4 wasn't found.
[doublepost=1490465643][/doublepost]Tried again on my mini for no good reason, but it's working now, it's been installing for much longer than it lasted on my G5. I'm feeling pretty good about it. :)

Strange because the download link is for Macports 2.3.4 , I've tried the link 3 times today ?

It could be that Macports updates to the most recent OS X 10.5 version but I told it not to.
I need the qemu version that is in the ports repository on Macports 2.3.4 so I stuck with it.
Maybe pochopsp installed Macports 2.3.4 , installed qt4-mac and then Macports updated itself ?

Actually TonVid, SMTube (and SMPlayer) are all by the same author so I'm guessing SMTube will be linked to Tonvid but haven't tried to change it . To my understanding Tonvid is like a mirror-site of Youtube .

Nope, I read about my version number right on the DMG file. It is 2.4.1, it didn't update itself. On the MacPorts site, I scrolled a bit and then found a link for Mac OS 10.5

FINALLY GOT SMTUBE INSTALLED ON MY MINI!!! Been playing around with it, and now I have a new problem: I can't figure out how to open the video in CorePlayer. I've added it as a player, but clicking a video just opens the video on mobile YouTube.

LOL I had this problem too. You have to write the path to the executable of Core player in smplayer settings. The executable is in the Coreplayer.app folder

Just needed to add the .app extension, thanks! Now I'm going to do a clean install of Leopard on my Power Mac and try to get this working.

I think I finally understand where things go wrong, apparantly it isn't clear that there is a download link called Leopard which is a direct link to the download of Macports 2.3.4 for OS X 10.5.

My apologies if this caused all your confusion and reinstalling, I've updated the post on the 1st page , have a look please if it's more clear which steps to take and follow.

Trying to get this working on my G5 now, I have a clean install of Leopard with relinked Roccat and the black theme. But for some reason Terminal says "Error: Port qt4-mac not found" when I try to install qt4. I assume it will begin working later like it did on my mini, but it's still a strange problem.

I have rediscovered the pleasure of viewing Youtube on my Mac G4... Just open SMPlayer, search a video, click on it, and it plays immediately in CorePlayer, in 720p, smoothly, without stressing too much the CPU.
Faster than my Android phone (Youtube app really sucks)
I don't know why this thread has only 6 pages... It should have 554484146 pages and be a sticky!

I have updated the 1st post to be a bit more clear and easier to follow for everybody, have a look and let me know if you have any comments/suggestions/questions.

HFTaylor12 good news, I found that you can go to m.youtube.com , have a look at the 1st post also.

I do hope that your G5 install has succeeded meanwhile , what does port list qt4-mac say ?
( this looks up in the ports repository which version is available online )

Tried on my iBook G4, still says not found. Port list qt4-mac:

Something is wrong with your Macports , it cannot find it's repositories .
Have you tried the suggestion : port selfupdate ?
Strange as I have this problem on 2 different Macs. The command is an error, I can show it to you if you want.
[doublepost=1490537505][/doublepost]I just need a different way to install qt4

I will need indeed a screenshot or more info since I'm blind otherwise to what is happening.

A few troubleshooting commands which might indicate me what is happening :

port version ( to know which version you are using since you're doing the install on different machines )

port list qt4-mac
( to know wether Macports can reach it's repositories and the port is found )

port selfupdate
( will update the repository list via network )

The previous screenshot shows that it cannot connect via the network to it's repositories using rsync, does your iBook have a functioning network connection ?

Reinstalling a port can always be done with sudo port -fp install qt4-mac

Regarding installing qt4-mac via another way on Leopard, it will be hard, I tried.
You need to know the dependencies if your QT install fails, I tried using the QT builds on the Nokia site but could never
get SMTube to compile or use the compiled version.

I often wonder that. One of the most popular online complaints is PPC can't do Youtube and yet, all the viable options presented here to now do that hardly attract any interest.
I think the main problem is that we have to smooth out the install process. Really all that needs to be installed is qt4, however that needs Macports and Macports needs Xcode. If we can find a way to install qt4 without Macports and then combine it and smtube into an installer, more people would use this.
[doublepost=1490538563][/doublepost]@Lastic I appreciate you looking into this.

OK, try sudo port selfupdate
