Anyone else having problem actually installing the update??? I keep getting an unknown error (1602) message after it says "preparing iPhone for update" after a couple of minutes.

Me and a couple of other people have already addressed this issue for the last issue and is posted in the forums.

However, try and restore the iPhone to 1.1.4 instead of installing it to 1.1.4. If that fails, try it again while the phone is in recovery mode. It should work then.

The Safari Bug - Where when you have multiple pages open, the others you're not looking at go to a white screen, seems to have been fixed.... I'm testing it a little more now, but so far so good.
That's not a bug. Safari will unload ("white out") the existing page when it runs out of RAM. Since cached pages do not persist in NAND storage, Safari is forced to remove cached page from RAM.

The lack of Flash support could be political (Apple doesn't seem to like supporting closed, proprietary standards that are controlled by other companies), but it could also be technical: a lot of other stuff couldn't get finished by the time iPhone 1.0 was released last year. Perhaps the release of the SDK will bring support for Flash, perhaps not.

Any why use MMS which costs you money per message, when you can use email which is part of your unlimited EDGE data plan? I've had MMS on my old phones for years and never once used it.

And people who don't share your line of thinking aren't "retarded". Grow up.
Because the ENTIRE planet uses MMS to exchange pictures on their phone? So now everyone else must have an email client on their phones. Everytime someone wants to send me something, I have to say no, my $500 phone doesn't support this basic feature sorry. To top it off, because of Apples resiliency in supporting Flash, the ridiculous site you are forwarded on to, to check your pictures...IS IN FLASH.

Share my line of thinking, you mean the logical line of thinking?

Funny thing is I intended to post this immediately after my last post. And four to six people replied before I could. Wowza.

I betcha there will be like 3 posts or something between this one and the quote above me despite quoting it as soon as I saw your post pop up.

That happens to my friend all the time, he usually has to restart his computer and then it works fine.

I had posted the same issue, try restoring your phone, then try the update, worked for me

It's undoubtedly political, though the "closed, proprietary" slant is misleading. Apple supports plenty of closed, proprietary standards -- their own. As well as some that while technically "standardized" aren't really popular outside of the iTunes ecosystem. Meanwhile, extremely widespread formats like FLV and WMV won't work without third-party software on Macs and not at all on iPods or iPhones, or iTunes (even on Windows) without some hacks. Unfortunately, the "real internet" is not just what Apple, or its defenders, define it to be. Even WAP is a standard, for chrissakes -- that doesn't make it the real or the full internet as normal people understand it.

You're right! So why bother using text messaging, either?

Apple, even if we can't have MMS, at least give us Bluetooth profiles so we can send/receive things from other phones! :apple:;)

Anyone else getting an unknown error message (1602) during the installation of this?

Or does anyone know what this is/how to solve it???

Thanks

You are FLAT WRONG. Every cellular phone company in the world has an email address assigned to each phone number. Do some reasearch, you'll find it is quite easy.

TEG
...and yet another ridiculous "solution". That's right, we're all going to keep a list of all of the carrier email addresses, and a list of which carrier all of our contacts are on. Then create a separate email address for sending a simple MMS picture. Get real, it's cumbersome and absurd.

dude, people bought an iPhone for a reason..not so they could count every nickel and dime..clearly its a high end phone with high end features..and its obviously lacking some "basic" amenities such as MMS and copy/paste..its the job of the consumer to complain to advance the development of new features..if you want to save money, get a nokia 2610
