My 1.1.4 iPod Touch compared to results at furbo.org (http://furbo.org/2007/08/15/benchmarking-in-your-pants/).

Code:
Test iPhone my iPod Touch 1.1.4
100,000 iterations 3.209 1.052
 10,000 divisions 0.413 0.271
 10,000 sin(x) calls 0.709 0.511
 10,000 string allocations 0.777 0.755
 10,000 function calls 0.904 0.793

Of course YMMV ;)

Perhaps they added an updated version of Webkit? These sort of speed increases would make sense.

No.

Starbucks stores are closing because they're having meetings for employees concerning something about method of making cappuchinos or expressos or something like that. My classmate works for a starbucks and she's gotta go to that.

or reviewing how to spell cappucino...

anyway i'll have my updates in about 15 mins :D

...and yet another ridiculous "solution". That's right, we're all going to keep a list of all of the carrier email addresses, and a list of which carrier all of our contacts are on. Then create a separate email address for sending a simple MMS picture. Get real, it's cumbersome and absurd.

Stop this fighting! I got a text message a few months ago that told me that my data plan now included MMS. I do have the iPhone, so... Yeah.

O2 iphone 'reactivated' on 1.14 update

I just performed the update, after update I got the 'slide for emergency' screen on the iphone (emergency calls only) and then after 30 seconds, I got an 'iphone activated'.

Did anyone else get this?

One more thing - is there any way to stop itunes popping up in the foreground when you sync automagically? I like to be able to sync when I stick iphone in it's clucky-station, but I hate the way itunes pops up over my work.

Anyone else find this annoying?

J

Because the ENTIRE planet uses MMS to exchange pictures on their phone? So now everyone else must have an email client on their phones. Everytime someone wants to send me something, I have to say no, my $500 phone doesn't support this basic feature sorry. To top it off, because of Apples resiliency in supporting Flash, the ridiculous site you are forwarded on to, to check your pictures...IS IN FLASH.

Share my line of thinking, you mean the logical line of thinking?

Good points,

Also WHY OH WHY can you not forward text messages, Send pic etc by BT, Remote SIM ACCESS High end car kits, Add multiple pics to email messages, Send & receive vcards, i could go on , Come on Apple

The Safari Bug - Where when you have multiple pages open, the others you're not looking at go to a white screen, seems to have been fixed.... I'm testing it a little more now, but so far so good.

omg if this is true i'll be very happy.

biggest complaint was that I would have to reload the page every time I leave safari.

It always reactivates after a firmware upgrade.

Yeah, and stuff.

I realize Apple doesn't own or control flash. The mac version of Safari supports plug-ins. I just hope that with the SDK, developers have the ability to create and add in plug ins. Then it will be up to adobe to create the plug in.

As for the email vs mms thing...I've never used mms and I think it's the stupidest thing ever...but I do acknowledge that it's widely used across cell phones..so why doesn't the iphone support it? If for no other reason than to bring it up to par with any other phone out there. Sure, the iphone can do tons of stuff the average cell phone can only dream of...but it's the obvious stuff that will get noticed if it's not there.

I love my iphone and wouldn't trade it for anything (cept maybe a larger capacity iphone), but it's not perfect, but it's close. What's wrong with wishing it were closer to perfect?

It's reactivated my iPhone for every firmware update I've run so far as I can remember (ATT). However, iTunes doesn't force its way into the foreground on me -- that seems like a stereotypical Windows app behavior.

You are FLAT WRONG. Every cellular phone company in the world has an email address assigned to each phone number. Do some reasearch, you'll find it is quite easy.

TEG

True...but not all of them accept MMS messages. When I send emails to various carriers, half of them get either messages saying their phone can't receive a message I sent them, or I get a return email back saying my email can't be delivered.

Actually, it's rather easy...

and with the multiple email addresses feature for each contact, it takes just a matter of seconds. It's not inconvenient to ask my contacts: "what carrier do you use?" I've been sending photos like this for months. :p

QUESTION for those with 1.14

Please open up a web IM client like Meebo. Login. Then navigate to mail, iTunes, whatever and then check back in 5-10 minutes. My 1.1.2 would just timeout and it would log me out.

Is this fixed in 1.1.4?

I'll check in my 1.1.4

Listen, it's cumbersome, unreliable and ridiculous. End of story. Just yesterday I attempted to send 3 different pictures, twice each, to a friends carrier email. None of them showed up. It's not a new way of doing things, it's a crappy hack work around that doesn't work half the time. And it still doesn't resolve the problem of not being able to view them on my phone. THE PAGE REQUIRES FLASH.

I think I might go update in a few minutes and after reading 13 pages of posts, it obviously doesn't have "many" noticeable differences. Hopefully this paves the way for the SDK soon!

BTW... I have noticed that A LOT of iPhone users want Apple to cater to their individual specific problem that if you thought about it you would realize it would never make sense for them do anything about. Apple has added very generalized things to this phone in case you haven't noticed. If you ask for AIM, they aren't just gonna plop down AIM for you. They are going to go much broader than that (however long that may take) and work on the backbone... like, how would AIM even get put on the phone (along with other apps..) this is why they are making an SDK... Sorry, I felt like rambling...
