I don't care about Flash one way or another, because I agree it's garbage. My only argument is that it should be supported, because of it's heavy usage on the internet. But I'm standing firm on MMS.

I love how with each firmware release people claim that their iPhone "feels more stable."

"Safari used to crash on me twice a day, but it hasn't crashed on me yet!" ... neglecting to mention you've only played with it for all of 40 seconds.
Ssssssssssssh :D Probably doesn't have anything to do with the reboot process after an update. Considering most phones have been running since the last.

Normal users never visit sites that use flash, or video sites that don't conform to Apple's narrow rules?

Normal users don't use flash or video sites ON THEIR PHONE! To complain that Apple has some sort of obligation to support something that 99% of the market doesn't support is a little over the top.

But I do think it is reasonable to ask nicely.

Why would a SOFTWARE update magically make the CAMERA (HARDWARE) more clear and sharper?

Let's use some common sense please.

1.1.4 is worth it just for the safari fixes. Saving the state the webpage is in.

As far as the Flash debate, I don't need it on the iphone. Look at the screen of the iphone, it's way too small to utilize flash.

I want fixes and APPLICATIONS. Give us the SDK so we can start working on our some great applications.

Calling people dumb is a great way to be taken seriously. Still, I'm a sucker so I'll bite.

I don't know if there is or isn't a change, but... there are any number of ways software could affect the camera function. Compression techniques could change, screen refresh rate could be increased, memory usage could be tweaked, etc. The camera may be hardware, but it's run by SOFTWARE if you hadn't noticed.

Regarding Flash, there are reasons it might not be feasible to implement on the iPhone, but screen size isn't one of them. Are you trolling?

As for the SDK, who's this "we" you're referring to? You sure don't sound like a developer.

Safari unloading

Well.... I havn't fully tested the safari page unloading thing, but so far its better, but still unloads after a few tabs (7 for me, but it probably varies depending on page size). Again, someone mentioned that it is because of the RAM size, which is perfectly acceptable.

As for Flash and WMV, its perfectly excusable. Its a fricken phone/ipod. You can't expect it to do everything your $2000 macbook does at about a fifth the cost.

Regarding Flash vs. H.264.

Is Flash a standard? Does it matter? Just like Microsoft Word's .doc format, Flash is immensely popular and that makes it a standard in practical sense.

That said, even though iPhone has support for H.264 codec, it does not render page with embedded H.264 contents (or even MP3 playing in the background). So practicality wins again. iPhone Safari does not support webpage with embedded rich contents of any kind.

Show me a site where you don't NOTICE the flash - some sites use it in a thoughtful way - but i've yet to see a good site which is wholly flash. And even if its there you notice it. My pet hate at the moment is sites with flash parts with music or sounds hidden on them, and you have to hunt for the mute switch.

Having said that Flash is needed for the iPhone - if only to live up to the 'full internet in your pocket' claim, and hang the battery issues - everything uses battery.

Good day sir.

thanks for responding to that post so i didn't have to.

Seems this is just to stop unlockers...

The revision numbers are pretty similar -- why update if there are no new features -- who wants to go re-install all that jailbroken goodness...
;-)

I don't agree with the idea these updates are released to stop unlockers. These updates aren't forced on people and if there is nothing worthwhile in upgrading, why do it? It seems silly. Folks who unlock/jailbreak their phone know better than that.

Who knows what 1.1.4 is really for. Lately, Apple has been doing some pretty bizarre things.

it fixed the text ordering issue..atleast on mine
yayyy thats what ive been wanting

now bring on the SDK

As far as meebo stayin logged in, i would say yes. I use beejive and i logged in then went to other applications, locked the phone for ten minutes and im still signed in now. So it seems to stay updated, and signed in, which is awesome.

I noticed after mine updated and was rebooting, iTunes recognized the phone, then suddenly tried accessing the iTunes store. Maybe something to do with the Application delivery system? hope so. :)

Well, 1.1.3 introduced one MAJOR system change - the addition of the 'mobile' account in addition to the 'root' account - adding a separation of process space. No doubt this change was in anticipation of opening up the phone to 3rd party apps - with security being at the top of the list. I'm thinking that there could be any number of tweaks or bug fixes related to the 'mobile' account on you iPhone in this release...

1.1.4 Kills My WiFi

Just when I thought it was safe to upgrade,... grrrrrrr

Since I've gone to 1.1.4, my Wifi won't work. Everything looks ok in the Wifi settings, but it just sits there on Edge, even though I'm 2 feet from my Airport base station! My wife's iPhone is still on 1.1.3, and her Wifi is fine...

Hold the presses... I've been screwing with my iPhone for almost a half hour on this, I'd get an occasional Wifi, then a quick switch back to Edge. So while I registered with MacRumors and started writing this, I left it plugged in. Now it is connecting to my Wifi station. What is this?... VooDoo?... Self Healing?
Who knows? Has anyone else seen this problem?

Right now I'm REALLY glad it's working! (phew!)

Really, anybody who thinks a digital camera is entirely a hardware device just doesn't know much about how they work.

I'm right there with you on MMS. If we do end up getting Flash before MMS, I will be mad. I find it extremely difficult to believe that it is so hard to bring MMS to iPhone. I don't care if the quality is bad or if the pics don't fully utilize the iPhone screen. It is really simple, I would like to look at the pics that my friends and family send through text message. Just do it already.

Guys, its getting a bit better on this page, but can you make sure you are following the forum rules when posting. Specifically the following rules:

Insults. Direct personal insult of another member, i.e., "You are an idiot." and all the variations.

Useless posts. Do not bother making posts with only one or two words (e.g., LOL) or a smilie

I've had to report about 5 posts in the past 2-3 pages to the moderators. Lets try and keep the signal to noise ratio as high as possible.

The rules themselves are here.
