A little more than half of respondents in a recent survey said they would be willing to pay at least $10 per month for unlimited access to Apple Intelligence.

In an online survey conducted in February and March, investment firm Morgan Stanley asked thousands of consumers in the U.S. to indicate the maximum amount of money per month that they would be willing to spend for unlimited access to Apple Intelligence. Approximately 1,400 of the 3,300 respondents were current iPhone owners, including 450 owners of iPhone 15 Pro and iPhone 16 models that are compatible with Apple Intelligence.

The breakdown was as follows:
  • $15 or more per month: 22%
  • $10 to $14.99 per month: 30%
  • $5 to $9.99 per month: 17%
  • Less than $5 per month: 11%
  • Not willing to pay: 14%
  • Don't know/too early to tell: 6%
Morgan Stanley analysts shared the survey results today in an Apple-focused equity research note, obtained by MacRumors. It said the survey's total sample represents the general population in the U.S. in terms of age, gender, and region.

The rollout of Apple Intelligence features has not gone smoothly so far. Apple was hit with class action lawsuits in the U.S. and Canada over its delayed personalized Siri features, and the company recently complied with the National Advertising Division's recommendation to remove "available now" wording from the Apple Intelligence web page. Apple also had to disable notification summaries for news apps after some of the summaries generated false information, and it has yet to re-enable the feature.

Even with Apple Intelligence getting off to a rocky start, this survey suggests that many customers would still be willing to pay for access to the features. However, it is unclear if Apple will ever charge for any of the features.

My recent upgrade decision (from an SE2) was made in part by my desire to symbolically - and literally - avoid Apple 'intelligence'. I now have an iPhone 15.

I use Apple Intelligence features every day. The writing tools are extremely helpful and image playground has proven invaluable in creating presentations. I also find the convenient that Siri is linked to ChatGPT. I look forward to the added features that have been delayed. I can understand why people would pay for it. I am glad that Apple is providing it as part of the operating system, however.

@Apple if this is some sort of “soften/prepare the market” announcement for what you are going to do, don’t bother - take the hit and get it out for as many people as possible with no charge.

Apple’s approach so far has been incoherent and patchy and something of an utter mess - to think about charging for this… 🫣

Maybe in the future, but it doesn't have enough features at the moment

Let’s assume this applies to the ready and proven version that’ll come one day, and that it works really well, Siri is much better and understands context just like ChatGPT or any other AI out there, and that the whole thing is actually really helpful and nice to have.

I still wouldn’t pay for it.

Joke of the week, even Apple knows that lost the train with A.I. I recently went back to my native language (greek is not supported for this joke or the other ridiculously obsolete assistant named siri) since I didn't find any serious motivation to use their intelligence.

I don't know if Apple Intelligence works for you guys in the US better than it does here in the EU (Finland). I would personally not pay a penny for using it in its current form.

The only feature that is a bit useful is consolidating notifications / creating summaries for notifications. But that also only works in English for now.

I use 3 languages myself actively, and only 1 (English) is supported in AI. I am also very doubtful that WHEN support for other languages will arrive if it will support multiple languages at the same time. Because I communicate in these 3 languages in my apps, I have no use for an AI that can only support one language at a time.

I doubt that is true. Everyone I know wouldn't pay for Apple Intelligence and most are not techy person at all. I defo wouldn't pay for Apple Intelligence either.

Do any of them know what Apple Intelligence actually is? Or are they just basing their answer on something that “sounds cool”?
It has to be this, even the chatGPT integration is horribly slow. I'm at a bit of a loss what the in device AI chip actually does.

More like 0.5% would pay, 1% thinks it’s wonderful 75% think it’s a joke and the rest don’t know what to use it for or have Apple devices that can’t utilise it.

No way I would pay any amount for Apple Intelligence especially in its current state. Not expecting much to improve in the immediate future. Even then don't think I will pay for it. Apple will definitely want to monetize and will try to have a subscription service for it. Maybe it will be even a part of Apple One in the future.

Next we’ll find out that 1 in 2 people would be willing to pay $10 a month for Siri. Talk about burning away your money. Ten bucks a month for Apple TV+ doesn’t look so bad now all things considered.

Why would you pay extra for something that is done on device?
If this was a cloud service AI, like ChatGPT, then fair enough.

lol.
I assume that Morgan Stanley is trying to protect their (or their clients) investments in Apple stock with this kind of absurd fluff piece.

I would pay, buy only if my laptop could do everything that ChatGPT, Cladue, Leonardo, Elevel Laabs and all such new AI startups can do, but locally on my machine. I would pay $5,000 for a laptop that does that + a $20 / month iCloud subscription.

Just to add my thoughts: no, I absolutely wouldn’t pay for Apple Intelligence. But I’m glad it is a new iOS feature. For free, of course, adding value to the Apple hardware.

Who made this survey? Apple? Or maybe those that had the brilliant idea of raising Netflix/Disney+/HBO Max prices while adding a new ad-supported tier.

I generally drop any software that changes to a subscription model and look for an alternative - especially software that I have paid for in the past, but now need to move to a subscription to get the latest update.
I will happily do the same with Apple 'Intelligence'.

They'll have to add features I can't even think of to entice me to pay for it. And it better be part of their bundle of Apple One.

Thing is, I don't think 3rd party apps have the hooks in them to take advantage of Apple AI easily.
