apache

anyone having problems with Apache?

It says it is loading at startup, but it's not
listed in top. Web Sharing isn't checked
in the Sharing Pref pane, and when I try
to start it, it just sits there. I can't get it
to start. I can go on...

Is anyone else having Apache problems?

Uh oh. this is sounding like last time. I had customized my apache to work with php and set up my own default directory. It took me over a day to fix everything.

You would think in 2003 something like Apache would have a user friendly interface of configuring stuff.

does the MS BT stuff require using the dongle?

You guys who are using the blutooth stuff from MS, is that with or without their dongle? I am considering getting it, but not if I have to have something hanging off my machine, thats what I got a 12" with bluetooth for. Let me know!

I am really hoping the release a BT ergonomic

WOW...I have always noticed small improvements in speed in my older G3 Macs, but after updating my iBook 600Mhz, it for the first time feels truly fluid and things are about as smooth as they can be on a 600Mhz G3. I am excited to get home and see how it works on the iMac 400. I have to give Apple credit, they have made OSX work MUCH better on older G3's and G4's over the past year or so. Thank you for remembering people that can't buy the newest thing every few months.

There are several improvements on the interface, I can feel the difference, do not hold out, get this update! I can tell it is a good one. Mail feels much better, Networking is better much quicker connect with the servers. I hope it will also fix a problem I had with my iBook not wanting to pick up an IP from the server once in awhile at the schoool. I guess we will have to see about. Good update, we will see if it is good enough to keep us going until next fall and Panther....

two observations

these are my first observations:

1. Networking is A LOT faster - in my case
AFP over airport (11). e.g. (dis)connecting, browsing server-volumes in finderetc.

2. sound is MUUUCH more resposive! at last!....

I'm sure there is a lot more to it...

No ... 39MB isn't very big at all. Windows 2000 or XP service packs are almost always around the 100MB.

And Novell Netware service packs are around 250 to 300 MB these days.

So this 39MB really is a steal ;)

Just did a combo update for my 1.42 - 80 something megs. That's a chunky update... could stand a fork up in it. Seems a little livelier. Haven't opened up everything to root around for problems, but that said, no noticeable problems thus far. Here's hoping there aren't any.

USB drive lost

Hmm, after the update my cheap-ass USB enclosure (with a hard drive in it) doesn't mount. I am going to try reinstalling the drivers. I'll post my results

After seeing this post I can't wait to update my iBook 800. Though it has Quartz Extreme and feels really nice already, while downloading in Safari the "fluidness" is reduced noticably.

45/81.9MB... downloading in Philosophy while listening to lecture on Hobbes' Social Contract Theory :D I love Airport.

my 10.2.5 experiences so far

Yeah, something is wrong with 10.2.5, Apache, and my iBook.

At boot/startup, OSX says it is starting up Apache.

Web Sharing is unchecked (even though it was checked before installing 10.2.5, and even though I turn it on, lock the prefs, wait, and eventually restart.) If I try to turn on Apache, it just sits there like a bump-on-a-log. Waited 30 minutes before finally giving up and restarting.

I can "sudo apachectl graceful", and it says "httpd started", but it doesn't show up in top or ps.

If I point my browser at http://127.0.0.1/ I get "can't find server". Oddly enough, though, I can still point my browser at my QTSSadmin (http://127.0.0.1:1220/) and it works!!?!!

And maybe I missed this before, but I get a quick "?" folder icon, and a quick MacOS folder icon (detecting startup disk) before boot. Is that new?

the ONLY thing i lost when i updated was that the display changed from millions of colors to thousands. big deal... 2 seconds in sys prefs/displays and it was fixed.

mail seems a little bit faster. i have many folders and subfolders set up which is off an imap server which is never quick. idisk mounts MUCH faster and unmounts just as quickly. i like it. classic also starts up about twice as fast as it used to.

now i only wish they would update isync so i can sync my P800!! cmon apple!!

quick fix for this:
go into system preferences... choose startup disk and then click on your os x system folder.

cheers. :)

Uh-oh. Maybe I shouldn't update now. I'm working on something and testing it using Apache/PHP/MySQL on my iBook. Did EVERYONE have this problem?

I'm getting ready to download it. I've got dial-up, so its probably going to take a while.

I have no problem with apache so far, after updating

Anybody know the actual url? I want a .dmg so I can load it on computers w/ only dial-up.
It's not linked yet on the support page.

apache is fine. apple didn't touch the httpd.conf this time...

and last time- you know they just backed it up, right? you could have easily put your httpd.conf back in place and php and your tweaks would have been fine.

/private/etc/httpd/httpd.conf.applesaved

is the backup apple makes before laying down a new config

Ok, got the USB Drive working after reinstalling the driver and unpluging it before a reboot.

Also lost my Canon Canoscan LiED 30. Had to install new drivers (a quick download from thier website) and it seems to be working now.

I'm about to fire up Apache/MySQL/PHP and see what happens...

More later

sweetness, is my weakness (give it to me!)

thats what i'll be singing if this fixes my ibooks battery problem
