It's just for fun...I don't do it but sheesh...doesn't seem like that big a deal. I suppose this post will get deleted too.

Yep, the stoplight buttons are now close together on iPhoto2, it is not a big deal, maybe just something they are experimenting with... I am not sure if any other programs do it...

imovie's got the close buttons too.

i don't have idvd, but if it has it as well, i'm guessing it will be in the revision of itunes.

wonder if it means anything?

ichat, ical and the current itunes are immune.

I ran xBench with 10.2.5 on my little iMac DV and found that overall my score (don't laugh) with 10.2.3 was 33.51 and with 10.2.5 it is 34.96. What suprised me was that in the CPU area my score went from 33.92 (10.2.3) to 40.89 (10.2.5). That improvement is a lot for a little 400Mhz computer like mine. Do you think OS would have anything to do with a better CPU score? Nothing else has changed on the computer (320MB of memory). Disk test improved from 40.37 to 45.52 and again nothing changed, I actually have a little more HD space used up now then I did before. Graphics stayed the same except for a little improvement in OpenGL (about a frame a second)

I would be interested in hearing anyone with better machines and see if they see CPU and disk improvement as well. If nothing else has changed maybe 10.2.5 is a little more efficient.

Also, one last thing? Why did 13 people rate this as being negative??? I always think free updates are a positive thing!

The problem isn't just one "First Post".

It's the five "First Posts" that invariably get posted... then the responses to those first posts... and the fact that suddenly there re 5-10 off-topic posts in the first page of the thread.

Much like this post. I only post this to explain to readers. And yes, in any other situation, your post would be deleted as well. Please send further responses on this topic to me in a Private Message or post it in the community section. Further posts on this topic in this thread will be deleted.

How can one have one onethousanth of a bit (or a byte, for that matter)?!?

Please enlighten me.

Think if I said I had a 1.5KΩ resistor. This would be 1500Ω. Now think if I said I am runnng 1mA (milliamp) or current through it. This would be .001A. Translate that to 100,000mB. This would represent 100 bits. I don't know why you would list it that way, but that's how I figure you'd use it.

Having the same processor in my pismo powerbook, I feel a little snappier, but I haven't run x-bench yet. I'll try it out and see

[edit]xbench results just over 35, a cuple points higher than previously[/edit]

Oh, I left out a detail... after hitting the connect button a smaller dialog box appears... if you minimizie that window... bam! kernel panic. Does this happen to anybody else? Maybe my network is messed up... but it was working fine before. Don't you think if it can't find the server it should just say something like: Cannot connect to server?

I must be missing something - I still can't get it to work. I tried the Connect window, the Login window and the Volume window. No minimize possible.

Dan

Edit - I have had improved networking, since we are on the sunject, witht the exception of my AirPort flaking out. I'll post more as it comes.

I was hoping that the code contained some hybrid mutative soft genome that would "grow" dual 970's in my dual 1.25 box. >sigh< One can dream...

Are they doing that again with multiple monitors?

I worked with developer support for a few weeks with the 10.1 beta after they had done something silly. I guess it doesn't matter so much if it's so easily correctable, but it shouldn't happen anyway.

The speed difference you are seeing with XBench is well within the error potential. Rerunning XBench at different times after startup after running other apps, simply the time of the month (montly, weekly tasks haven't been performed) can have a degree of factor in XBench. Also are you running the same version of XBench that you tested with prior to the upgrade? Another factor is the upgrade prebinds all the apps and the system therefore fixing possible binding problems. All in all a good way to look at XBench is as an approximate score rather then an exact score. From my experience unless the overall score is +/- more then 5% I ignore the difference.

IBM MicroDrive and PC adapter work now

The last update messed up mounting MicroDrives (and some flash media) when using PC adapters. This really sucked when trying to get 1GB of pictures out of a camera, using USB is just too slow. But this update makes me a happy camper... the drive mounts, launches iPhoto, and imports at great speeds.

Stoplights closer, but iPhoto is quicker

Yah, so I noticed a little interface fiddling too, but more than that my iPhoto loads with less beach ball time.

I can no longer modify applications.

Hello.

After updating to 10.2.5 I am no longer able to drag anything to the applications folder, or drag anything out.

I get the error message: "The item 'xxx' could not be moved because 'Applications' cannot be modified."

Does anyone know how to fix this?

Thanks,
Scott

I don't have that issue.

New Mail app?

Is there supposed to be a new version of Mail?

My Mail says 1.2.5 (v552) after the update, I didn't check it before. But oddly in the System Profiler utility it says Mail was last modified in Nov 2002.

What's new in this version:

Addresses an issue in which domain name lookups could fail if the DNS server responded with a very large reply packet.
Improves the way that LDAPv3 connections time out when idle.
Addresses a potential data loss issue that could occur when copying certain files to an SMB volume.
Addresses issues with Internet Sharing when certain types of DSL or cable modem connections are shared.

The Internet preference pane can now store .Mac passwords that are up to 32 characters long.
Addresses an issue in which some Apple internal modems could not establish or maintain a connection to certain Scandinavian Internet service providers
Improves Mail's selection of character encoding for messages sent in these languages: Arabic, Bulgarian, Greek, Hebrew, Hungarian, Icelandic, Polish, Romanian, Russian, Thai, Turkish, Ukrainian.
Improves Mail responsiveness for accounts configured with multiple POP servers, when the servers are unavailable.
Addresses an issue in which an application could unexpectedly quit when printing, if /tmp was missing or unavailable.
Addresses an issue in which a damaged GIF file, such as a Web site graphic, could cause an application to unexpectedly quit.
Addresses an issue in which certain PICT graphics could not be displayed.
Addresses an issue in which the date may unexpectedly be set to 1969 or 1970 during startup.
Addresses an issue when using the Hanin input method for Traditional Chinese in which Carbon applications could unexpectedly quit if a modifier key (such as Control) was pressed when no text insertion point was available.
Addresses an issue in which Classic fails to start ("Error 1016") when applications available to a non-Admin user are restricted.
Addresses an issue in which the Classic environment could become unresponsive after placing a Classic application's save confirmation dialog box in the background.

Improves the reliability of AppleEvents traffic (inter-application communication) between software running in the Classic environment and native Mac OS X; addresses an issue in which a user might not be able to logout after using a Mac OS 9 version of America Online (AOL).

yeah, thats new. i dont mind it so far.

iCal

I don't know about you guys, but iCal won't launch for me since I've installed the 10.2.5 update. Anyone else having a problem like this?

iCal

Not me, but then I haven't had most of the problems listed here. It's kind of funny how everyone's computer has its own set of quirks. Almost as if they have their own personalities.

For most people a fresh install from the ground up will cure there problems. I find with each update that my system performs much better if I just reinstall the system. It's really not all that big of a deal. Yes it can be time consuming on a slow connection if you haven't saved your updaters but you don't have to download all the updates it will simply give you the combo update when you fire off Software Update.

Most people will find that there system has been running slow and that doing the fresh install fixes all sorts of things that have been bugging them but just thought were problems caused by this or that program or update.
