You know what's funny about your statement, if Apple heeded the masses and released 10.4.1 as the GM instead of 8A428, people would be clamoring onto the 10.4.2 bandwagon, saying exactly the same thing you are saying. The bloody Tiger would never be released in it's quest for GM perfection.
And if Apple waited for absolute perfection, Tiger still would be released before Longhorn! :D

I keep getting insufficient bandwidth when trying to initiate a video chat. This is odd because I have Road Runner Premium.

Toast needs an update too. I had to try and copy a disk on the quick yesterday only to realize that Toast cannot do this yet in Tiger, but that one is not Apple fault.

I don't like the way Spotlight indexes iPhoto pictures. It should hide anything with "Original" in the name so I don't get duplicates of every silly picture I have edited in iPhoto. Also, iPhoto should give us the ability to rename files and not just titles that way we can actually use spotlight to find pictures. System preferences should not randomly turn the input volume from my iSight down. Network should find PC workgroups other than "Workgroup" as it was able to do in 10.3. I am back to using Connect to Server. Perhaps this new .Mac should work also... Oh well, I knew what I was doing getting in on the ground floor of this deal...

Other than that Tiger is decent.

check this out about Toast and OSX 10.4:

It really is ugly now.
Without cage fighter, I couldn't bear to run Mail.app. No, really... in a strange way it's like looking at Eudora, or other Carbonized OS9 relics. The GUI just don't fit in, I'd have stuck with Thunderbird.

I know it's a personal preference thing, but I don't understand how people can like Thunderbird and dislike Mail 2. Thunderbird might have more "Mac-like" icons, but I literally could not use the old Mail. The drawer was absolutely ridiculous and the whole application didn't feel particularly professional to me.

Mail 2 has a new interface. It doesn't match button styles with some other parts of OS X. But neither does IE or Thunderbird or Photoshop. Yeah, it's an Apple application and it should conform to their HIG. But it seems unfair to complain about its interface when the only thing that seems to be wrong is that there are new icons.

For me, this is a polished and professional-looking mail client instead of some toy program that happens to get email. The new compose window is better, the three-pane view is now standard with all the other mail clients (including Thunderbird). I guess I must be missing something. Someone had to stand up for Mail, though.

Looks aside, the new Mail is much more solid than previous versions. I'm slowly getting used to the new GUI, but I really like the rest of the way the new version is set up, with no drawers, faster navigation, etc. It will take a little time, but I think I'll fully adjust to the whole thing.

I love Mail 2.0. Compared to the old Mail, it looks much more compact, smoother and suited for professional use. Thank God they got rid of the drawers. That was pretty damn ugly.

No sir! I love it! I only wish it would implement an Automator-style interface for building filter rules (because I'm lazy like that).

Yes, I saw that... and edited my post above...

Thank you... I totally agree...

I knew I wasn't alone... :D

I wonder if it'll have "improved networking with window machines" in this one.
that's a baseless comment...

windows networking is FARRR better in Tiger. it blew junks in Panther.

Try before you cry.

Fully Agreed

For most of those who say that Tiger has given them NO problems, I say this: You haven't done everything there is to do in Tiger yet, then. Because there ARE bugs. Whether or not you've encountered them is entirely due to you, but they are there. We all got the same build of Tiger shipped out to us and they do exist. Have no worries. Apple will take care of them.

I agree. I have been using Tiger in a work environment. There are a lot of bugs. Apple is obviously going to fix them. I suggest people in work environments hold back from Tiger till a revision or two.. I am stuck with some rather annoying issues currently. But from all the new features that I am noticing thus far.. Apple definitely has a winner on its hands after the problems are fixed.

just 20 bugs fixed? ive encountered double that so far! including DNS errors, Dashboard fading-in-positional problems, Mail crashing when it tries to reopen up unsent messages, some widgets (even official Tiger-bundled ones) crash randomly even when Dashboard isnt activated, Automator is very slow, cant get the scroll/hand tool in Preview anymore (its permanently grayed out)... i could go on given time.

i am pleased to see many things right with it though. personally im loving Mails new look, and that my Logitech V500 now scrolls horizontally without mac drivers installed. just need to work out those little bugs!

oh and some extra options would be nice, like not putting the machine to sleep if you close the lid on the portables.

I do. I had mixed feelings about it at first, but now that I've had time to work with it, I like the whole thing. It's much better that any previous versions, and it's ifinitely better than Outlook, but that goes without saying. ;)

Have you tried to reinstall the printer? I had some issues right after I installed Tiger, but delete and reinstall fixed it for me.

BCC is the greatest addition :)

The new look is sleek and justified. The previous versions had big icons.
I see what they did was basically grouped common functions together (rounded button groupings) as to distinguish them easier. as well as tighten up the wasted room.

It is easier to see the function buttons now.

Although it WOULD be nice to be able to control the size of font for the mailboxes. Why are things getting so much smaller these days.. my eyes are starting to hurt. (unless I am missing something, these fonts can't be increased)

Can't wait for the update

Update can't come soon enough for me. I still can't get my PB on my wireless network. I even reinstalled Tiger, because I thought the problem might have been related to the many settings I imported, or the software I installed.

No such luck...

So until then...I must search the web tethered to the wall...

Will Apple release 10.4.1 in packaged Tiger software? Or will it still be 10.4 and update to 10.4.1 once it's installed?

Apple Seed program

If you really are part of the Apple Seed program, you shouldn't be discussing it here.

It's unlikely they'll change the package until 10.4.5, so people will have to use Software Update to download changes.

The keyboard shortcut command-+/command-(minus) still works. Another way is to customise the tool bar (View/Customise Tool Bar) and dragging the font increase/decrease button set to where you want them on the toolbar :)

It'd be nice if Word didn't crash every time you tried to print wirelessly through an Airport. Didn't happen before Tiger.
