Installed update this morning. By this evening my computer evolved sentience. It is holding my iTunes and iPhoto libraries hostage, and and is demanding "a piece of the action," whatever that is. Help!

My mistake... I'm using ClearDock...FadeToBlack said:Didn't think Transparent Dock was Universal yet? I checked on it the other day and it said that it wasn't Universal.

I was answering that late last night, a couple of hours after my head stopped working...
But: ClearDock works fine...![]()
Nothing wrong with ClearDock. That and its APE has never caused me any problems, and I've use it on a G3, a G4 and a MacTel over several iterations of Mac OS X...FadeToBlack said:Ahh, that explains it. I think I'm gonna wait 'til Transparent Dock goes Universal.

JZ Wire said:Well, Apple typically stops at 10.X.9 but it could happen. Im hoping they wont add more. Who knows, they might release Leopard in Jan or even Feb? So going too far beyond .9 might not be necessary. Im waiting for a Mac with Leopard on it so the sooner the better.![]()

I've never used it before, but since I saw it in the list of improvements I thought I'd check it out. I added it to my dashboard under 10.4.7, set the From language to English, the To language to Dutch (why Dutch? Why not?), and started typing. It translated literally as I typed. I'd type a character or two and they'd start showing up in the bottom panel. Once it actually became a translatable word, it showed the real Dutch word (well, I assume it did. I don't actually speak Dutch). Then I upgraded to 10.4.8. Now, I type in a few words, then have to stop typing and wait for 2-3 seconds for the widget to catch up.
Seems like a great big step backwards to me. Good thing I don't actually use the thing.![]()
this happened on my ibook restart, but not my intel mac mini. It was easily switched off in the preferences section but odd nonetheless. I wondered if it was that I had a two button/scroll wheel external mouse attached. I haven't had either lockk up yet (fingers crossed).Di9it8 said:This is what happened to my cursor, prior to the machine freezing.
Anyone else with a similar problem, G4 Powerbook 1ghz 1gig ram 10.4.7 running prior to this

Well, that really makes me feel a lot better! Can't find a crying smilie so...plinden said:I downloaded the combo update to a USB drive, using my work's 25Mb/s connection, so I don't spend a couple of hours downloading it at home.
It doesn't make any difference to you, I know, but I just wanted to boast.

Well, it sounds like the kernel panic screen.slimflem said:My Intel Mac Mini Duo showed me a screen that said "Please hold down the power button to restart your computer." something like that. was that a kernel panic? It was in several languages. I held the power button, it restarted, then did a double reboot. Very odd update, but it was the first time I updated the Intel Mini.
christian_k said:Hello,
sincle the update to 10.4.8 I have a little WLAN problem.
Sometimes I loose connection and the Airprt symbol in the menu bar
shows zero signal. When I click on the Airport symbol I am able to log in
again immediately.
This even happens when I am just 1 or 2 meters from the WLAN router, switching to another channel did not help.
The router is a rather old 802.11b (11 mbit) device, but it used to be very relieable.
