I thought - omg, 420! but then I saw the time :)

Have attached the downloader - apple have bandwidth to burn.
Note it downloaded 26MB before I had the chance to capture the status...

Possible Issue with update

I already downloaded the update, thru Software Update, and a couple of unlikely things have happened. My update was 420MB but SU only downloaded about 175MB and then asked for a restart. Right now my macbook is stuck configuring the installation, and has been like that for about 40 minutes.

Should this take so long? Should I reset my computer and see what happens?

Or, just put Service Pack 3 on a disk, install XP, install SP3, and you're pretty close.

Not if you start with XP-original. You have to install SP2 or SP1 first, then you can do SP3. But apparently you can slipstream SP3 onto original XP.

One positive thing that I've noticed about the update is the CoRD and remote desktop seems to load and respond faster than before...it almost connects the the remote PC instantly now.

So what is the ratio now... 25% had no problems with 10.5.3 and 75% are grinding their teeth?

Can we have a poll...?

sooooooooo

your saying no one is having this problem with the ram shorting since after the update of 10.5.3?
I had 2gb of ram but after the update it shows 1.5 wtf?

Not here (2 out of 2 machines reporting correct RAM size). Where are you seeing this weird info... About this Mac?

Updated last night (198MB) on a BlackBook CoreDuo 2.0Ghz, 2GB RAM. No issues at all, although after the 2nd restart it was a little slow at loading the desktop while it finished doing its thing.

Also happened to have looked at the About this Mac section and it reported the full 2GB of RAM.

Software used after update without issue:

VMWare Fusion running Windows XP w/ SP3
iTunes
EyeTV
Safari

Sorry, I do not know the version numbers off the top of my head. They are all the latest versions though, with all patches installed.

Sorry to hear about your missing RAM. I started with 4GB, and I still have 4GB after the update. Now I need to print something from Pages to make sure printing still works on a Canon Pixma 4300.

Installed on an iMac and a Macbook Air yesterday, no problems at as far as I can see, but I haven't really had any problems with either machine.

Wow! is this a thead about the 10.5.3 update or a thread about hyperboy throwing a trantrim :p. man you have a lot of posts and people are getting sick of your *bitching*- awe see now, now you have a minister cursing.

Dude, if you hate it that much, go back to Windows - no one is stopping you. and as far as a GUI whim you talk about??? have you looked at MS lately? Every release for the past 2 years they changed something in the GUI. i had to upgrade from office 2003 to 2007 at work and I am lost as it functions totally different, and my needs to work (scanning directly into a document, and a few others) was removed. this morning I could not even copy and paste from word into outlook - had to reboot just to get that to work.

One thing to remember - Computers change as needs change and as the industry dictates. I do not mind if I have to right click, left click, etc. to me apple is a lot simpler to use, and more suffistocated when it comes to running a clean, easy to use system . I have yet to experiance a missing or corrupted dll like in windows. Native Apple apps are eloquent. I can see annoyances of relearning something, but I know alot of people were ticked when they upgraded their apps from VB6 to VB.NET, as the litttle upgrade utility broke more and it converted.

Get used to it, it is just the way of computers. If it were to stay the same, why upgrade??? You would then also not get the nice features that come with an upgrade. If the app totally does not work, then I can see gripes - if it is just a change in the way you do something or the screen looks a little different, well that is par for the course with any update/upgrade.

yes, updates changes things - get used to it or do not apply updates.

Atleast is a lot better than many open-source products where just about anyone can contribute. talk about some of your GUi and functionality changes from one version to the next. Atleast with Apple, what goes into a product is controled and well tested. Most of the time if an update breaks something, it is because of a hack or something someone tweaked on their own.;)

Windows on the other hand - Updates just breaks stuff at every turn around.....

Wow, that was a lot about nothing because you missed an essential point...

I DON'T USE WINDOWS!

I only compared to it from my limited Windows usage in previous bad job experiences where I had no choice! LOL

As a matter of fact, I've ONLY used Apple computers myself personally or for my own businesses since 1982.

Updated two of our iMacs at work without issue. Strange though that for two identical machines, bought at the same time and running the same OS version, one used the 200Mb update and the other the 400+Mb update!

Anyone had any problems?!

I have applied this update and YES there is CR2 support for Canon 450D!!!! But since I have applied it my MBP has started becomming a bit slow and I am getting freezing issues when I use quicklook on the CR2 files! And it doesn't respond so I have to turn it off by holding the power button!

Anyone else having similar issues

Works for me... Do people here even try stuff before shooting their mouths off and saying it doesn't work!?!

At the risk of being warned once again by MacRumors moderators within the death grip of the Steve Jobs Reality Distortion Field, I'll just state the truth AGAIN...

You cannot in any way single click on a folder in the dock and have it just open as a folder in Leopard, even 10.5.3. Just not true, even if you CMD-Click. You can do this in TIGER.

What's more interesting though is that more than one person has posted this same lie over and over and each said they were able to DO IT even though that is IMPOSSIBLE!

There appears to be no mechanism at MacRumors to prevent or warn against deliberate misinformation, only the people that debunk misinformation!

What an irony. :)

Anyway, I hope Apple fixes this obvious Dock issue in 10.5.4 and this is my last comment on the subject here.

See you all at the Apple Discussions complaint threads. :)

parental controls seem to be working fine... that's the only thing I've noticed from the updates that affect me personally. The others' were really unimportant to me.
