I skipped 10.5.5. Will there be any problem jumping from 10.5.4 to 10.5.6? Or, do I have to install the combo update? Thanx.

Why is it better to do so using the combo updates (even if as in this case I'm running 10.5.5)? would that duplicate the files, or would it overwrite them and remove the last "individual" updates installed before?

The smaller updates contain only what Apple thinks is necessary to your particular configuration. While this generally works fine, this method has been known to cause problems. Using the combo update is viewed as more reliable because it is guaranteed to contain all the files that you could possibly need to update a system from any previous 10.5 revision level.

AirPort

Improves the reliability of AirPort connections, including improvements when roaming in large wireless networks with an Intel-based Mac.

Oh dear God FINALLY! Hopefully this is the end of wireless dropouts/slow connections for good. This is already the best sub-point release ever.

EDIT: Wow, yes it did. Speeds are ridiculously fast now. Oh I'm so happy :D

I might be imagining this, but I'm 99% certain Safari is running 10 times quicker than it was before installing 10.5.6 - most sites are loading in the blink of an eye which they never used to.

No, it's not just you. Things are seriously fast in Safari now. o_O

I got the same thing, but it worked eventually, and now it works just fine. That always seems to happen to me after point updates

great the moment you answered he decided to be done :)

quite a lot to do :D

There is an option in the Finder preferences to turn zooming of icons via pinching on and off.

BTW: the option is called "Zoom using trackpad" and is in the Advanced tab of the Finder preferences. Also, if you are using your notebook in clamshell mode, the option is not displayed.

Say what?

Big irritation imho. Big let down on apple's part. They need to slow down with all the new hardware that requires software patches and actually fix up the the OS so it is functioning properly.

Um, huh? So, Microsoft - who has offered zero initiative and advancement to computer technology in what amounts to an eon in the tech field - is OK because they cannot keep up. And Apple is at fault because they are ahead of the curve? So, what you are really saying is let's regress so the stragglers can catch up. I have to disagree. I mean really - Spaces? That's too hard?

My OS is working quite well, thank you. I'd be interested in who/what you are comparing the Leopard OS to, in order to suggest it is not functioning properly.

I would *NOT* recommend updating .. we have tried to update a few machines and every single one locked doing the update.

I have a Mack-Book 2.2GHz 2Gb ram 120 HDD and try to update using the Software Update. It download well but when I tried to install it, just keep showing the blue screen and the circle running almost for an hour and a half...

Do I have any chance to recover my data? Because I don´t have the back up done

I checked software update and mine was a 190mb version. After reading this entire thread and seen the problems I am going to go with the Combo Update. However, this is the first time I have done it this way. Are there any special, extra things that I may need to do before/after I update (repair permissions? any other operations?…)?

Thanks in advance

I have done this a few times in the past and literally just applied the update on top of the previous install and didn't do anything special. You should be just fine.

Ok...

Installed it for my Mac Pro.

It proceeded to reboot.

Now whenever it's starting up it'll show the Apple logo with the spinner for a lil' while and then just instantly turn off. No error messages, nothing, just turns itself off.

When I put in the Leopard disk to try and repair the disk it won't let me - the button is grayed out - ... and yes, I selected the system volume.

How do I fix this?

Updated without any problem using the combo update in safe mode. Checked for the Mobileme update feature and it works! Changed an address on my MBP and within 1-2 minutes the change was visible on my iPhone.

Very happy.:)

Thanks Eric. So, is it better to apply the combo running safe mode after cleaning all chaches, or is this overkill/not necessary?

Mid-2006 MacBook Pro, Core Duo, ATI Radeon X1600
Desktop immediately after booting after installing update:

2 distorted pixel lines on the bottom. They still disappear and reappear in various places throughout all apps. Also seeing a couple random pixel glitches in the black bars of YouTube videos. Looks as if you have a stuck pixel- except it only happens on YouTube videos.

online banking broken

I updated to 10.5.6
Now safari won't behave when I try to log into my online banking account.
(firstdirect.com)
Something has changed that means the bank's servers aren't happy with how safari talks to them.
It's equally likely that it's a problem with the bank's online system never having been 100% up to date, but it did work yesterday.

my wireless still takes 15-20 seconds to connect from any location! i thought forsure this would have fixed it!
