Actually it is fluorescent now in contrast to incandescent as it used to be. :)

10.5.6 update did not change the icon for me. I've only seen this icon on a Unibody Macbook personally. I don't think this update changes the icon to the new one used on the new Macbooks.

This is the first update that didn't work for me. It hang during "Configuring your installation" after hitting restart when downloading is complete.

dL

I'm having the same issue. I left it for about 15 minutes and it showed no progress at all. Just stayed at 'Configuring your installation' with the progress indicator at roughly 5-10%.

Okay, someone else too. Mine has been about 5%ish for about 45 minutes now. I hope my lappie isn't screwed up now :(

Hmmm... I can wait, I just need it for work when I can. I'm just scared it's stuck in an endless loop and forcing it to stop is propbably not a good idea as I love my data.

Any ideas?

Mine did the same thing, but after it had downloaded suspiciously fast.

It said it would take 6 minutes to download 190 MB, but was done after about 30 seconds, then hung on configuring installation.

I just killed it with the power switch. Checking in my /Library/updates/, the mac os X update pkg was only 21 MB! I deleted everything in my Library/Updates folde (including a garageband update that was there for some reason - it was just a distribution pkg), and tried software update again. Again, it only downloaded a partial package (this time about 30MB).

Can you check your folder? I suspect it was not completely downloaded, thus leading to a hang during installation.

I am currently loathe to install it.

My MacBoo Pro is a Penryn early 08 for the record.

Hmmm.. I don't know... It probably won't do any harm to cold boot it, but you can never be sure.. I recall forcing my MBP off when it hang during a smaller software update that got stuck, didn't harm my MBP as far as I know :)

10.5.6 Not Installing

It sorta goes through the install process then I get a message saying there was an error.
Any suggestions?

I've noticed about 3-4 other people with the same problem, I'm still stuck at configuring installation (45+ mins) and am considering a reboot and redownloading the software.

How does one, redownload from the software updates screen?

I would suggest repeating what you did and downloading the combo updater. Yes, it's much bigger, but you'll have everything in one package so you won't be stuck with a partial download. Just make sure it's 669MB.

The USB kind you can plug into your laptop, nothing to do with iPhone

Yes, these are different 3G cards then the iPhone. You can buy USB network cards or ExpressCard's that connect to AT&T's 3G network for internet access.

Like everyone else and their dog said... 3G external cards, not iphone 3G.

Hehe. Right.
I guess I didn't realize people actually used those overpriced cards.
Huh. Wow. OK. As you were.

People, let the installer do its job! DO NOT restart you computer in the middle of the process. Just because the status bar doesn't LOOK like its moving doesn't mean it isn't doing something. Be patient.

I'll wait another hour (lunch break) and see what it's doing there before I start to really worry.

Right. So the 20MB downloaded update pkg contained all of my required 190MB of data? And the second time I tried to download, it was only 30MB.

I think there's something screwy here.

Aghhh. what to do?! It's been stuck at configuration and installation on second reboot for over half an hour, should I kill it or wait at least another hour?

mine was stuck on the apple logo. the little thing just kept spinning forever

i finally forced restarted it and it effed up my mystem

reinstalling leopard to 10.5.5 now:mad:

thank god for time machine

What? They're extremely useful, invaluable for me in fact as someone who is on call and needs a proper computer on the internet 24/7 (iPhone doesn't quite cut it). My work pays for mine, so cost isn't an issue. Try to stop being so dismissive of stuff please, it makes you look like an idiot.

This would be the best thing , I think.

For you others who HAVE quit (I don't want to suggest you killing an update), check your /Library/updates folder to see the size of the package - I assume the pkg in here is supposed to be the size you were expecting.

I've never know software update to only partially download, but report as full. This scares me.
