I want the biggest ipad and use it with Logic pro remote :D

Also look at Cubasis - it's phenomenal and more capable than GarageBand for macOS even. I don't really use Cubase as a DAW but the mobile version is excellent, hands-down the best iOS music software.

Good Point. If they do release this 10.5 inch iPad, then I would assume they would have the smart connector/smart keyboard and Apple Pencil support. Otherwise it would be fragmented across from the other iPad models. My guess is it will support those features. Especially the smart connector for the keyboard, if Apple truly intends to live up to its promise with the laptop being replaced by the iPad.

Yes - though I meant that I would hope to be able to use my existing 9.7 Smart keyboard with the 10.5, rather than having to buy another! I think it an absolutely certainty that it will have smart connector and pencil support.

Oh great, another resolution that won't be supported by most Apps for a good 2 years. Some Apps still don't even support 2732x2048 resolution for the 12.9" Pro!!

Apple needs to take a heavy hand on these issues. Apps should be using Auto-Layout, which makes these changes trivial, which makes Apple could enforce NO Updates submitted for an App that doesn't support new resolutions.

Zero chance of it sporting another new resolution. It will have the same resolution as the 12.9 model.

Isn't Cubasis a stripped down version a Cubase? I don't use Garageband which is a stripped down version of Logic so why would I bother?

That's a good question. Being the differences in sizes. From a sales point standard, it likely will have its own keyboard, just as the 9.7 and 12.9 have their own.

I was waiting for apparent experts to start calling the death of the iPad Mini with the launch of this new cheap 9.7" model. To me it makes about as much sense to kill the Mini off as it does to launch a 10.5" iPad... I.E. none!

And yet some of the biggest changes to iOS happened under his watch.

All incremental. Nothing revolutionary or game changing. Steve Jobs passed away a year and a half after the very first iPad was released. Since then there isn't any fundamental use difference betwen the first iPad and the current line up. It's still mostly a consumption device for consumers. Some businesses have custom apps to make the iPad into a laptop alternative, but that use case on the consumer side is flat.

I have a Pro 9.7, a mini 4, and a mini 2. I can't use any of them as true work devices. and don't see the joy as using them to edit film or photos. I've tried but it's just awkward.

Again, TC has done nothing to advance iPad to a higher use stratum. Heck no iPad even has 3D touch.

It's all kinds of wrong but I like to think of them as Maxi Pad, Mini Pad, Super Overnight, and Regular Pad.

I'm a woman, so Apple's naming conventions do not fluster me. Women deal with A cup, B cup, C cup, D cup (and above) in sizes 32-38 (and above). So we have to figure out if we are a 32-A, 34-A, 36 B, 36-C and so forth. And even once we think we have that figured out, different manufacturers can make these sizes feel larger or smaller than expected. Don't get me started on clothing sizes, shoe sizes (for men and women).

I WILL figure out which IPad I want and I WILL get it. Just don't expect that my bra is going to be fitting me properly while I'm picking out my iPad.
That's the best post on MR I've read for years.

If this is true it is stupid and yet another missed opportunity for Apple. Where is the elegance, the symmetry, the synergy?

If the screen isn't the same resolution as the 12.9" it takes away not only from itself as a fragment, but also from the 12.9" resolution. What would they possibly be trying to achieve?

YouTube it. It's very much more capable as a DAW than GarageBand for iOS (on their own merits).

Tim Cook and new iPads for $299! That will never happen! The lowest the new 9.7 will be at least $100 to $150 more than that.

I really think now it’s time for a Scary iPad movie. Actually... a Scary Tech/spoof movie might be an idea maybe. Just maybe. Hmm...

And your wife is only 4 months pregnant!

Ahah no the girl is five. But at age 1, much before learning to speak, she was able to switch on my iPad 1st gen, start her game (a farm with animals), finish it. That was so unbelievable to me that I was always thinking that the (just passed) Steve Jobs was nodding in Heaven.

In regards to size, the interesting thing for me is what happens when Apple removes the bezels from all ipads? Because it's fairly obvious to assume that Apple won't want the 12.9", 9.7" & 7.9" iPad pros to all have bezels while the 10.5" iPad Pro doesn't.

So if the 10.5" bezel-less iPad Pro will be roughly the same size as the current 9.7"....then will a 9.7" bezel-less iPad Pro become the new mini pro? Or will a 7.9" bezel-less iPad mini Pro be announced down the road? Also, would Apple release a bezel-less 12.9" iPad Pro? Or phase the 12.9" size out?

If the 10.5" iPad Pro will truly be the only bezel-less iPad this year, then Apple will probably adopt the bezel-less form factor on all their iPads in 2018.

Guess we'll find out then.

I think it's far more likely that the 10.5" will have the pixel dimensions of the 12.9 as per the earlier rumours. And that this iPad would get the additional software capabilities that the 12.9 pro has over the 9.7 pro (for example, the extra number keys and the extended split view functions). This model would not require developer support over that already required for the 12.9 and might push some of the hold-outs into providing it.

Adding another (i.e., different) resolution will complicate things for developers. Too many apps still not optimized for the 12.9" iPad Pro. Can't imagine adding yet another resolution for developers to ignore. :-/

Considering how close it will be to the 9.7", it doesn't sound like it will complicate things for developers. 9.7 to 12.9 requires significant rethinking of the app, at least if you want to take advantage of the added space. 9.7 to 10.5 might just be making the "window" a little wider and taller. If developers are using the modern auto resizing features of iOS it doesn't seem like a big issue.

As for "surprise" features, I'd actually like to see two Lightning ports (assuming USB-C won't be used on iOS). One exactly where it is on the current models for consistency, and one on either the side or the top (they could even replace the headphone jack with one, I know, boooooo!). Due to how Lightning works, this would allow you to, say, connect an external display and connect other devices like audio i/o, ethernet, etc.

If "Pro" means 'supports Pencil and has Smart Connector' then there is no way they would sell from $299.

And as everyone has said, not another resolution please!
