10.5-Inch iPad Pro Said to Have 2,224×1,668 Display With Same Pixel Density as 9.7-Inch Model

Adding another (i.e., different) resolution will complicate things for developers. Too many apps still not optimized for the 12.9" iPad Pro. Can't imagine adding yet another resolution for developers to ignore. :-/
Once you have more than one resolution to cope with adding another doesn't complicate things.

I think the biggest issue is the apps. The iPad apps have come along way but they're still not nearly as robust and efficient at every day usage as a laptop running equivalent apps. I personally like iOS I do wish that the iPad was more optimized for getting serious work done.

What would you like to see? I could see some utility from drag & drop between apps... A better picker for the split screen... Top & bottom split screen... Improved iCloud Drive with the ability to R/W from, if they must, MFi storage devices. But the one thing keeping it from being as efficient as a laptop is mouse pointer support when it's being used with a keyboard with the screen more vertical.

Four iPads... Four. For some reason a lot of options make me feel uncomfortable and is not even my company.

The iOS lineup should've stayed black and white, 2 sizes at most, all features for both.
Agreed. Steve totally would have done that.

No OLED means no interest. Sorry Apple. See ya next year for ipads. I'll step back out while the rest argue over how 4 ipads complicates their lives too much.

Oh Mr.Cook we don't need new hardware we need software that can take advantage of the hardware we have and USB-C instead of lightning so it can be opened up as a port like a real computer with a file system

"Alexander also said Apple's rumored low-cost 9.7-inch iPad Pro could start at $299"

If true, looks like I am finally going to replace mom's iPad mini from a few years ago.

would be surprised if price was that low thou

Under Cook Apple was only getting more expensive, but on the other hand iPad is somewhat of his personally most loved product.

Maybe he really wants to make it more affordable to stop iPad's ongoing decline.
But yeah, 299 seems unlikely. Maybe he's going to cut iPad Pro prices to normal iPad levels again.

I dislike ths trend towards no/slimmer bezels on phones and tablets. If you are buying an iPad you are likely to use it without the keyboard some of the time otherwise you would just buy a Macbook. The bezels are needed when you are holding the device, IMO.

I agree with others who say that the software is where Apple needs to innovate.

I find the direction that Apple has been going with the iPad to be underwhelming and disappointing.

"If the 10.5-inch iPad Pro does in fact end up having the same pixel density as the current 9.7-inch iPad Pro, that would go against another mathematically possible scenario in which the tablet could have the same 2,732×2,048 resolution as the current 12.9-inch iPad Pro, with the same pixel density as the iPad mini 4."

This is getting confusing.. All i know is the new device will have some 'insane' resolution..

The reduced/no bezels is a great idea, it allows them to put a bigger display in the same form factor which is a great idea, especially if your carrying it around all day. Also there is a rejection type feature that when your holding the iPad it won't register it as a Touch for example, it works well on the current iPads and there's not reason it wouldn't work well on one with reduced/no bezels.

I do think on the software side we will see them adding more Pro style features, we have multitasking, picture in picture and I think this year they will add more. Personally I hope they add the ability to be able to use the Apple Pencil to annotate within safari and apps (which has been rumoured).

Tabs everywhere and side by side tabs for all applications

You can get side by side tabs in safari on the iPad Pro. Other apps it may work well but wouldn't it be down to the developer as well?

I think what they were trying to say is that if the new 10.5" iPad gets a 2732 X 2048 resolution, that will work out to 326 PPI, which is the same PPI of the Mini 4. If not, the PPI will remain the same as the 9.7" Pro at 264 PPI.

The iPad Pro line is the only Pro line where customers actually care about thinner, lighter, faster. Why is Apple perfectly willing to embrace "thinner, lighter, faster" with its Pro line of desktops and laptops when Pro consumers of these lines don't want it but can't be bothered with the iPad line where constomers actually do.

Same for me, I'm at the point where I need OLED and nothing else will do, for phones, for tablets, for televisions, and hopefully soon, for laptops. I watch/read a lot in dark rooms or complete blackness and even the slightest light leakage or raised black levels bothers me.

I just hope they keep the 12.9 for many many years. I have over 6 thousand comic books on my 12.9" iPad Pro. I just love it. The pages are viewed at their natural size, it's just an amazing device for comic book lovers. I use two apps, Chunky for old comics (it cleans up the pages), and Comic Zeal for new stuff....an amazing device that has changed the way I read and make it so so much better....
