You can dream up all the excuses in the world to console yourself that you are not getting an iPhone X, but deep down you know the iPhone X is the best smartphone Apple has ever made. Any lesser model you choose is inferior - end of story.

^^^ This and more this^^^

Can't wait to pre-order. The iPhone X is the best change Apple has made since the iPhone 4 period.

I think the iPhone X looks 100 times better then the horribly dated 8 and 8 plus design.

Completely Agree.

It’s certainly interesting; there is a now this schism in the iPhone universe.

Though once iPhone X is in circulation it’s not going to matter.

It’s just an iPhone. It doesn’t bring anything new or earth shattering to the user experience. An iPhone is an iPhone. Everyone will happily go back to Snapchat, Facebook and Instagram once the new toy excitement wears off.

I've only just upgraded to the + model and I love it, screen isn't the biggest issue for me!

Agree. It's UGLY. The next models won't have it for sure, I'd rather wait for a perfected product, rather than a half-arsed one that looks rushed.

I actually prefer bezels, just makes it easier to hold the phone when watching things without touching the screen.

Love the home button!!! It's perfect. It wasn't broke, no idea why they fixed it. They should have kept it and just reduced the bezels at the top of the phone.

I don't like the concept of this, then again I haven't tried it - it might completely life changing? Difficult to judge it without having tried it. But I also agree it was a backup solution, just more evidence this launch was rushed. Again, I'd rather wait a couple years for better models to come out!

I use my 8+ with one hand, reachability is great and I was worried about getting the + because I have tiny hands, but it's actually very nice to use (if a little heavy). Reachability is great on all the phones (again, little hands) so the X would just be a pain to use. But again, we haven't tried it yet, so can't really judge based on that. But it does sound like it wouldn't be that great reachability wise.

Yeah, tbh the people who are gonna get the X aren't just getting it for the specs, they're getting it for what it looks like.

True, I have the Gold 8+ and it's BEAUTIFUL. I'm not content with black/silver phones anymore! BUT another reason to wait, because they'll definitely release other colours of the X in due time.

Yep. Too expensive. Another reason to wait, in a couple of years, this will be the norm and the price will either come down or the economy will do better and it'll look like the price is coming down. Even if it doesn't, in a few years it'll be NORMAL to spend that much on a phone, right now it isn't. And why spend upwards of £/$1000 on a rushed, unperfected model when if you wait a year or two, you'll get a much more refined (possibly notch free) phone!

^ Agree.

---

To summarise, I agree mostly with the OP. The X is rushed just to get it out on the 10year anniversary. I'd rather have a 'dated' phone for a couple more years and get a refined, well thought out model.

I’ve just bought the 8+ instead of the X for similar reasons :-

Cheaper
Comes in a gorgeous blush gold
Screen is wider and not stretched
Prefer the aspect ratio
Like the Touch ID and home button
No notch
My current cases fit it
Battery lasts longer

It’s a personal preference, but OLED is just too saturated and unnatural for me.

When all this is settled the iPhone 8 will go down as one of the best IMO. Even after all the talk about same/dated design.

Its the 6 design perfected. The Gold one is stunning to look at I must say.

And for me you can add that the iPhone Xs will be larger than the 10 and that’s what I’m looking for. Plus the updates and all the quirks worked out I hope.

I personally love the new X design. iPhone 8 and 8+ are a great design, but dated. Maybe that is the reason Apple released the 8 and 8+, because they knew not everyone would initially like the X.

Imagine what everyone would be saying if Apple ONLY released the iPhone X !?!?!

if they would have released only a completely baked iphone X and X+ with reasonable price no one would be complainin'.

I agree with this.. I LOVED my 6S+ and if there was one irk it was that it was a bit slippery. The ‘tacky’ glass on the back of the 8 not only looks amazing but begs to be out of a case.

The iPhone 8 may not set any sales records like the iPhone X, but you can bet Apple has and will continue to sell a bunch of them. To those that say it makes no sense for Apple to have even released an iPhone 8. Well I disagree there are many reasons. Not all of us are so easily impressed with the change in design for one thing. Face ID vs Touch ID many apps aren't going to just automatically utilized Face ID. The company I work for has several apps we use in the field and they have already told us don't get the iPhone X unless you like typing in a long code because we will not be supporting Face ID until our next major update in about 9 to 10 months. So, iPhone 8 Plus it is for me.

I purchased one through Apple for family member which arrived on release day. Corporate office ordered one on Friday for me from AT&T (corporate account), which is on the truck for delivery today. I know from using the the one we got on Friday that I am going to love it.

I am not against the iPhone X I think it likely is the way of the future for Apple. To those that get one, I hope its all you want it to be. You guys are the testers for the next design... Congrats! :)

You forgot

11) BATTERY LIFE. The X won’t last as long without a charge, which is a huge deal to me, especially when traveling.

Why wont it last as long? It actually has a bigger battery than the 8 Plus.

Before the news came out today everyone was assuming that the X would have a smaller battery, guessing that poster maybe just hasn't seen that it in fact has a bigger battery?

I would be interested to see how many people who won't get the X for whatever reason actually change their mind and get one after seeing it in-store or once it's available.

Noticed a lot of hate for a phone which is not even in anyones hands so how anyone can make any kind of verdict is beyond me.

Haha, literally none of those made me question the decision to get the X. I am looking forward to the upgrade for a number of reasons. No idea why people continue with these types of posts begging for some sort of justification on their decision not to buy the X. No one buying an X cares that you don't want it. Just buy the phone you prefer and move on. Your opinion is not the same as everyone else.

It never would have been a reasonable price though, let's be honest. If they had only released the X at the current price point of $/£999 they would have lost so many customers.

The official specification page shows shorter battery life than the Plus, depending on use. Go here and scroll down to battery, then compare with the 7 Plus (or 8 Plus).

No, these are Apple's estimates for battery life from their specs page. The X may have a larger battery, but it won't last as long when surfing the web, etc. Who knows why, but I'm guessing the Face ID system is especially power hungry.

I see, your referring to Apple's claim of "two more hours than iPhone 7". They dont say 7 +.

I guess battery life will be somewhere in between.

Specifically, internet use on the X is “up to 12 hours.” On the Plus it’s up to 15 hours. Those three hours can make a huge difference while traveling however (I can attest). Video playback is also a couple hours less on the X, not that I’m as concerned about that.

I don't know why he should have to console himself. He made a choice. Last I checked you didn't have one yet either. Everyone is entitled to make their own choice. This forum can be so polarizing and petty at times. I remember when the Plus first came out and you were a dummy with no common sense if you bought one or didn't buy one. Who really cares what phone someone else carries unless you're in high school? Buy what you like and go on with life.

Sure those are your preferences, but the OLED comment I’d have to disagree with since this is the first time Apple will be using it in an iPhone. It wouldn’t be fair to lump it in with the other OLED phones you’ve seen. I don’t think Apple will have images over saturated, and everything will have a more natural look.

I think future versions of the X design will keep the size the same. All screen, fit in one hand.

I would say you are totally right until I got my iPhoneX today.

I’ve Been using the plus models since 6Plus and Upgrading from iPhone 7plus, I am used to the big screen, and the X screen is just really small, yeah it is a little bigger than the 7, but definitely smaller than the plus, thats okay but what apple didn’t tell you is that, try to use certain apps in landscape mode, the bar that replaces the home button will make the usable screen area even smaller than the 7, go try an X to play some games at apple store and you’ll know what I’m talking about.

Other than the screen size, the problem is the notch and the round corners of the screen. The notch bothers me more than I thought it would and because of the round corners of the screen, a lot of space at the bottom of the screen are usually just blank or not being utilized at all. Just look at the keyboard when you type........

I blame myself for not doing enough research and believed the x screen is actually bigger.
This is the very first time I’ve ever regretted getting a new iPhone, and I’ve bought a new iPhone every year since the original iPhone. I am typing this on my iPhone 7 Plus because I just can’t stand using the X. Yeah the x is nicely built and I had been waiting for a iPhone made with glasses on top and bottom sides with stainless steel around it(iphone4) and with bigger screen, but this is definely not it. I believe apple will come out with an iPhone X Plus next year (it is their marketing strategy not to release a plus this year so ppl who bought the X will upgrade to x Plus next year), so I might just trade in the X for 8Plus.

It’s not your fault we all made the same mistake. If I told you that I was giving you a 5.8 inch edge to edge phone. You would prob think it was something approaching phablet territory. Not something that looks stretched and skinny.
