You can dream up all the excuses in the world to console yourself that you are not getting an iPhone X, but deep down you know the iPhone X is the best smartphone Apple has ever made. Any lesser model you choose is inferior - end of story.

You can’t really believe that.

It failed at the keynote(no matter what face ID apologists say

Yes, but it failed for reasons of security. If somebody had handled the 8/8+ too many times and then they tried to demonstrate Touch ID, the exact same thing would have happened.

It was a clumsy oversight by Apple staff, not a failure of the feature.

Sooooo, you label the post 10 reasons why "you" (meaning we, the audience) will regret the X. So, let me meet you with a stern nope.

1) It'll take all of 1 week of use to get familiar with the new format of screen

2) Non issue. Some may like it, some may hate it, most will get used to it and ignore it. Also, video doesn't natively get played over the notch.

3) It's the closest to edge to edge we've ever gotten on an iPhone. I've always hated the huge bezels on the iPhone.

4) Oh no. Having to get used to one motion instead of a push... rough. (p.s. If you're using your phone while your driving... You're part of the problem with the rise in distracted driving accidents. No respect.)

5) It's what we have. Don't like it? Don't use it.

6) I'm sure my one handed use will be the same as using the behemoth of the 7 plus. Just a few minor adjustments.

7) The loss of bezels makes it worth it

8) Always used black anyway.

9) I'll spend $13 more a month than I'm spending right now. I spend more than that on **** snacks in a week. No big. If you can't afford it, don't buy it.

10) If people don't buy first gen products, products would never get a 2nd gen. I hate this tired argument.

I haven't been warned. I just see someone who has decided they don't want the X and wants everyone to agree with him. If you don't want it... don't buy it. Those of us who do want it, will buy it, and the majority will enjoy it.

Re your comment I highlighted, one extra step in isolation is an insignificant difference, but how many times a day do you unlock your phone? Then multiply that by the amount of days you will use Face Id. It adds up after a while. But whatever works for you. But you've still been warned ;)

There is really only 1 out of the 10 that is valid in my opinion--- but it is a deal breaker for me.
The lack of Touch ID. I live in the south , always wear ball caps and sun glasses.... with a lot of sunshine--- and I spend A LOT of time outside --- that said I have some serious doubts that it will work correctly under those conditions. I'm getting the 8 praying that they get the Touch ID under the glass worked out for Xs

except of course when screen touch id is available in a future phone and they will spend half the keynote talking about how it pisses all over Face ID.

LMAO! So true! Thanks for that!

You brought up a lot of the reasons why I went with the 8 Plus over the X. I can totally see myself being disappointed in the purchase... so I went with IMHO the proven phone. (I'm upgrading from a 6s Plus)

I'll leave the X beta testing to someone else... and check back on the X in a year or two... and perhaps buy one then... just like I did with my first Watch... the 3rd gen Watch. :D

1 Screen size

I've seen the hands on reviews, and watched the videos. The screen size is fine. Here’s a hands on from 9 to 5 showing that the default movie view is in ‘true aspect ratio’ (right around 2:22):

2 The notch.

Compared to every other iPhone I've had (and I've had them all; I upgrade every year), the notch isn't going to be an issue. There's also a setting to allow videos to introduce a black bar to make the 'notch' disappear. Not an issue.

3 It is not edge to edge display

And this is reason to get the 8/8Plus instead of the X? The 8/8Plus not only have larger bezels, they have that chin/forehead. If intrusion on potential screen real estate is a concern (as this bullet point suggests), the X is by far the superior choice.

4 No home button

In other words, avoid change at all costs. Remember, the very first iPhone introduced a heck of a lot of change... and people not only adapted, they came to relish it.

5 Face ID

I'm going to reserve judgement on this until I get to use it, but based on what I've seen so far, FaceID will be fine. Not only that, it's 20 times more secure than TouchID.

6 Two handed use

Coming from a Plus (6 Plus, 6S Plus, 7 Plus), and as someone that really didn't want to give up one handed use, I came to get used to the size. The one handed opportunities for the X are going to be significantly greater than any Plus sized phone.

Yes, many of the specs are similar ... except for the size of the screen. Oh, and the pixel density of the screen. And the OLED (true blacks) vs LCD. And the better cameras. And the face scanning tech, which leads to a significantly more secure device. And probably other things I'm not remembering off the top of my head.

Definitely reasons to consider the X over the 8.

8 Colours

The 8 only offers one more color than the X ... gold. Yay? Yes, it's a nice looking gold, but I (and most of the people I know) don't do gold. Like everything else on this list, it's a non-issue.

Sure. The phone is approximately $300 more than the 8. It also carries a lot of functionality, tech, scccreeeeennnn, that the 8 doesn't. Is it worth the $300? That's entirely subjective. For many of us, myself included, the answer is a resounding yes.

10 First Gen

So? I've had every single iPhone the day/weekend they were released. I've never regretted that decision. People seem to be spooked by this 'first gen' hobgoblin but there's nothing to be scared of. So what if a year or three from now a different form factor comes out that you like more? Has no bearing on the enjoyment of one of the most sophisticated pieces of technology available today.

You have been warned.

I feel more like I've been trolled.

Guys when the women see you with the X in your hand instead of the iPhone 8, you’ll be glad you picked the X. Trust me! ;)

1 Screen size

If you're upgrading from the 6/6S/7, then the screen size of the X will simply be stretched. If however you're upgrading from a Plus model, your screen will be narrower, albeit longer. This to me is a deal breaker. I am a Plus owner, I don't want to be watching media on a narrower but stretched screen.

2 The notch.

Have you ever had dinner with someone and as they're talking to you you lose focus of what they're saying because you noticed they have sauce or food stuck to the side of their lip? Well the notch is not too dissimilar. My eyes are drawn to it. If it bothers me, it will bother you. To those who say it won't bother you, you haven't got the device yet.

3 It is not edge to edge display

I still see bezels. They may be thinner, but they're still there. Rumours early on suggested the X would be like a slate of glass. Sorry, but it's not. Far from it. There are bezels there. Throw in the notch, throw in the black borders that the software will put in, throw in the narrower screen size to the Plus, and you're not really watching content on this magnifificent edge to edge giant screen, are you? You will be disappointed.

4 No home button

For 10 years you have used the home button. Up until the 5, it was a push and then a slide across. From the 5s, it was simply a push. Worked beautifully. I myself never registered all of my fingers for touch ID, I never registered my two little fingers, so if I just wanted to see the time or a notification without opening the phone, I'd use my little finger. That will be no more with the X. Now you got to get used to making sure the phone sees you, wait a little bit, then swipe up. Don't underestimate how this will force you to change your habits, when you''re driving, when you're in a meeting, when you're half asleep or in any situation when you shouldn't be looking at your phone. You will not be able to discreetly unlock your X. Think about it, for 10 years you touched a button, now you got to look at it, wait a couple of seconds, and swipe up. I'm sure there will be many other instances which will play out when you use the device.

5 Face ID

Following on from point 4, Face ID was not Apple's preference. It is simply the technology Apple had to fall back on when they realised that their preference would not be workable in time for the launch. They wanted touch ID under the screen. This in itself is an admission from Apple that touching your phone is still the best and securest method to unlock your phone, though Apple will never publicly admit it, except of course when screen touch id is available in a future phone and they will spend half the keynote talking about how it pisses all over Face ID. Apple wanted screen touch id, we all wanted screen touch id , but not to be. Instead, you will be getting a product which Apple added as a compromise. Basically, if Apple could have got screen touch ID to work, it would have been in the X. Samsung couldn't get touch screen ID to work, so it put the touch ID button at the back. Apple couldn't get screen touch id to work, so it went with Face id. What's the difference, they are both inferior compromises? The 8 Plus will still have the trusty home button with touch ID that you have all grown to love.

6 Two handed use

When the 6 Plus was released 3 years ago, this place was in meltdown about the iPhone no longer being a one handed device. Well the X will take it to another level. The screen is now longer, yes shorter bezels at the top and bottom, but unbelievably, the X won't come with reachability. Expect to see that back in a future software update or device once Apple realises that they screwed up in getting rid of reachability. But, and this is a huge but, you have to swipe down right of the notch for control centre and left of the notch for notifications. Good luck with your one handed use X owners.

7 Specs

There is alot of similarities between the 8 Plus and the X. Both will have similar cameras, the same glass back, wireless charging, same storage capacity, same water resistant rating, both will have 3 gigs of ram, both will have the same A11 chip and both will have augmented reality. To me, the only benefit you're gonna get with the X over the 8 Plus is a little bit more with the camera and Animojis. But the 8 Plus camera will be a beast and I'm tipping after 2 weeks, if not 2 days, X users will over the animojis. But you see, the 8 Plus will have its own advantages, a wider screen and touch id. Honestly, is the X that much of a superior device?

8 Colours

Not a biggy, but the gold colour the 8s will come in is probably the sleekest colour I have seen on an iphone. It looks magnificent. For those who still see the iphone as a fashion accessory, which I personally don't, you won't get the X in that colour.

9 Price.

The X will be the most expensive iphone in history. If you live in Australia like me, you'll be forking out $1,800 for the 256g model. That is not only insane, it is a rip off. If you want to fork out that much for a phone with a narrower screen than a Plus, a notch which will block your content, a device you cannot use with one hand, no trusted touch id home button and Face Id which was Apple's second choice because it was not good enough to make screen id work, then be my guest, you've got more dollars than sense.

10 First Gen

It is a first gen device. Buyer beware. Beware beware beware. I'm sure in years to come the notch will go, reachability will be back, the bezels will be thinner, the width of the screen will be equal to the Plus and touch id will be back bigger and better than ever, under the screen.. and then I will get myself an X...but until then, beware the X.

You have been warned.
This is pretty spot on. Again, you haven’t used it so some of your points could be invalidated once you do use it. However, I do agree with 80% of what your saying. The biggest one of all is the “First Gen” approach, this is 100% true. Apple couldn’t get the Touch ID embedded in the screen, which is why they came out with “face ID” which I am extremely skeptical about. Let’s be honest here, the only worthwhile reason you can convince yourself to getting the X is that OLED screen which is just .3” bigger than the Plus. You just need to convince yourself enough that it’s worth 1150 (I think 64gb is a complete joke with the inclusion of 4K @60 FPS, opinion ofcourse). I also HATE the stainless steel borders, doesn’t look iPhone’esque.

I thought this too when I first saw the measurements of the screens. But when looking at the measurements of the entire phone there's not much difference between the X and the 7 (not 7+, just the regular 7). The length of the 7 is 5.44", the X is 5.65". So the X is only .21" longer than the 7. It's the screen that's much bigger than the 7, not the whole phone.

I haven't decided what I'm doing yet but this does give me pause for more thought.

haha no, i meant the Plus iPhones are too big for me. not the X

Please refrain from making stupid assumptions. I earn decent enough money to buy anything I want. I gave 10 reasons and yet you chose to use the one option which can be used as a personal attack against me. Go away.

Stop assuming what economic condition people are in. I was likely going to buy the x, even at its price. When I actually saw how ugly the phone looked I balked. The bezels are still huge, and the OLED screen doesn't make a mind blowing difference in functionality. That phone's is downright ugly. Again, lets all be civil, stop assuming that the only reason someone would chose the 8 over the x is because of price. This is a complex decision involving many factors for people

Ok, i'll stop assuming and go away... :(
But before i do so i'll remind you that there is a special line outside the Apple store for people like you, so you can drool on others while they going out from the shop with their new X. :D

Has no Touch ID. Was supposed to. That's a fail for me. That's very inferior. The 8 series has Touch ID and apples "flagship" phone doesn't. Keep in mind that they were supposed to have Touch ID on the x, but it didn't work out
You do not know it was supposed to have TouchID. That notion was put forth by an analyst and to this point, is nothing more than rumor.

Butt hurt that your flagship phone doesn't have Touch ID?
The iPhone X is not my "flagship" phone. It is simply a new phone that I am going to try. It would be nice if the new phone had both options. However, when I get the new phone, I may find that FaceID suits me fine. We shall see.

Just because I pointed out that we don't know for a fact that TouchID was supposed to be included, there is no need to get rude. A simple you are right would have sufficed. We all make mistakes sometimes. I pointed out one you made.

Save your "butthurt" and other derisive prepubescent type retorts for those of a similar mental mindset. Being an adult, I don't engage in that type of prose.

I'm giving apple the benefit of the doubt until proven wrong. The way apple approached face id is better than Samsungs' fingerprint + face technology. In the same way touch id revolutionized the way fingerprints were used as authentication even though apple did not invent the fingerprint reader.

I dont give apple my money...

The screen: It looks like it has a sticker on it but only the lable "remove this before use" is missing. Looks just awful. But that is only a personal opinion - some other may like mickey mouse screen.

But then... how are you supposed to use your phone outside california? It is snowing and raining here more than having sunny days... remove the woolly hat and scarf? Keep the phone in the rain to recognize your face?

Njah! Skipping it.

You use it the same way you use your phones now.

I also live in a very cold/snowy climate. If you have hat and scarf on (which, btw, won’t necessarily interfere with FaceID — the hat won’t, and the scarf can be pulled down temporarily if you need to), you also have gloves on. TouchID is entirely useless with gloves, so you’re already having to type in your pw to unlock your phone... if it’s warm enough that you can wear those thin little things that can transmit the dermal electrical field to your screen — otherwise you have to remove a glove to unlock it.

When it comes to cold and snowy weather, it seems to me FaceID will be a more convenient way of getting into your phone.

Remember the extreme criticism and mockery of the first iPad release? The feminine product jokes, how no one would ever find use for it because it was neither small like a phone nor practical enough to serve as a laptop replacement? The size was bad.... Yeah I remember...and then sales were through the roof. The original unlimited iPad plan through att was dropped within 2 weeks.

I sort of see the same thing here...
