"Wait a couple seconds" for faceID to recognize u?? Got news for you, it's faster then touchID. And while it'll take a few days to get used to, it's going to be better.

Notch doesn't bother me one bit.

Price is what it is. I'm not upset by it. It's s premium device. And every report I've read says when it's in ur hand it feels even more premium.

I'm getting the X. And I'm pretty sure I'm gonna love it.

If u want to justify U not getting the X that's fine. But not one thing on ur list is an issue for me.

I know we can fall into the 'I'll wait for next years model cause it will be better' trap and perpetually be lost in future hype. Something doesn't sit right with me with the X. Second generation should be grand. But alas, there you go...waiting for next years model :(

I'm certain to grab the 8+ and swap it for a new phone in a year. That way I get something new in my hands and then look forward to the second generation notch.

At the end of the day it's what's best for you. Not what the hive are telling you is best.

In my opinion I don't like the notch neither but that won't stop me from trying it out... for the past couple years I'm not gonna lie I got used to a iPhone plus and truth be told I still might miss it because my eyes got adjusted to it... year after year everyone has complained about something Apple did wrong either they still bought an iPhone or they moved on it's all personal preference in the end all I'm saying is X is not out yet you either try it out before you buy or you don't.

It failed at the keynote(no matter what face ID apologists say

No it didn’t. Watch the playback yourself and look at the message on the screen.

It did exactly what it was supposed to do.

Butt hurt that your flagship phone doesn't have Touch ID?

What a weird direction to go with that.

No, he’s pointing out that Apple never said it was going to have TouchID. That was an assumption on the part of speculators that turned out to be inaccurate. So, to claim that it was ‘supposed to’ is simply wrong.

LMAO! So true! Thanks for that!

You brought up a lot of the reasons why I went with the 8 Plus over the X. I can totally see myself being disappointed in the purchase... so I went with IMHO the proven phone. (I'm upgrading from a 6s Plus)

I'll leave the X beta testing to someone else... and check back on the X in a year or two... and perhaps buy one then... just like I did with my first Watch... the 3rd gen Watch. :D

Yep, let the X lovers put up with all the [insert any issue here]-gate problems and all those prepared to wait will reap the benefits of XI next year.

There is really only 1 out of the 10 that is valid in my opinion--- but it is a deal breaker for me.
The lack of Touch ID. I live in the south , always wear ball caps and sun glasses.... with a lot of sunshine--- and I spend A LOT of time outside --- that said I have some serious doubts that it will work correctly under those conditions. I'm getting the 8 praying that they get the Touch ID under the glass worked out for Xs

My OP wasn't meant as here's 10 reasons as a total why you shouldn't get the X, it just has to be 1, which in your case one of the 10 is relevant.

I can understand waiting for the reviews on this kind of thing before plunking down the money for an iPhone X. That said, keep in mind the following things:
  1. It was explicitly stated, multiple times, that things like hats and sunglasses will not impede FaceID (and regarding the sunglasses, it's because the TrueDepth camera uses infrared which sunglasses don't block). I doubt they'd release something like this to the general public if a hat and glasses confused it.
  2. There's a 14 day return policy. If you got it, and it turned out you didn't like it, or it didn't work well enough for you, or whatever, you can return it, no worries.
I think the FUD spawned by posts like the OP here will soon be a thing of the past.

I’m not sure why so many people feel those things are mutually exclusive. I’m going to get my X on November 3rd and I’ll get the XI (or whatever it ends up being called) next year too. That way I get to enjoy all the new tech starting in a few weeks.

Getting the X doesn’t prevent one from getting the next year’s model.

And, for what it’s worth, all those ‘gate’ things have always been blown waaaaay out of proportion. I’ve had every model iPhone since the original and have enjoyed the heck out of each one.

You don’t need to live in fear, people.

I generally upgrade if the next generation has something significant to offer or if I break my phone. My current iPhone 7plus works just fine. The OLED would have been a huge upgrade to me but as you said....
Something doesn't sit right with me with the X.

Those of us getting the X (like myself) I’m sure will get the X next year as well. I’ve been with Apple since the 4 and didn’t have any problems until I got a 7+ that hissed. That still didn’t stop me from wanting the X.

I'm not the ideal customer. I have very high expectations and I am very difficult to please. It just happens that Apple exceeds my expectations at the moment, in all areas, and they delight me with both the attention to detail of the products, and the unrivalled customer service and care.

If Apple has exceeded all your expectations as you say, well then I'm sorry but you are not difficult to please and do not have high expectations.

Tellling him his expectations are not high etc. just because you disagree with him is rather illogical, seeing how opinions are subjective. You post as if your opinion of Apple is the standard by which other opinions are to be judged. Not even close.

The iPhone X will fit great in the hand because it’s almost the same size as the iPhone 7 which fits great in most people’s hands. Also people for months has been saying Apple has been working to get Touch ID under the screen and that’s what they wanted to do with this phone. But what if that isn’t what they wanted to do with this phone.

In my opinion, too many people on this forum are too quick to believe rumors that are posted on here. Too many embrace the rumors as fact. And when the rumors don't come to fruition, you see threads like, where is x color for the new phone we read about...TouchID was supposed to happen and Apple couldn't get it done and rushed out FaceID...etc.

A lot of people around here don't care about facts. They want to be entertained, especially when the entertaining involves complaining about a phone that wasn't going to be purchased, or complain to try and get others to feel the same way. Gotta love the group think pressure around here. It is almost like a cult with some of the clicks around here.

Its not surprising that this forum is pretty biased when it comes to iphones. I think the iphone x's facial recognition could give some of you blindness and you'd still say it was the greatest smart phone out there. Apple could really do some amazing things if users accepted that not everything apple does is thee latest, greatest, and anyone would be lucky to own one. I mean you wont go on an android forum and see android lovers say how great it is that samsung put the finger print reader on the back next to the camera. Constructive criticism is good.

so basically you just don't like change

For some, that's a big part of it. Apple has had the same uniform design for so many years and with this notch, it's completely thrown consumers off from what they were used to. But like anything else, we adjust and/or accept it for what it is.

We don’t have to go on an android forum to see the lovers there saying how good the finger print reader on the back is because we can see it right here in these forums on topics about the Touch ID being on the back of the phone.

1 Screen size

If you're upgrading from the 6/6S/7, then the screen size of the X will simply be stretched. If however you're upgrading from a Plus model, your screen will be narrower, albeit longer. This to me is a deal breaker. I am a Plus owner, I don't want to be watching media on a narrower but stretched screen.

I've only just upgraded to the + model and I love it, screen isn't the biggest issue for me!

2 The notch.

Have you ever had dinner with someone and as they're talking to you you lose focus of what they're saying because you noticed they have sauce or food stuck to the side of their lip? Well the notch is not too dissimilar. My eyes are drawn to it. If it bothers me, it will bother you. To those who say it won't bother you, you haven't got the device yet.

Agree. It's UGLY. The next models won't have it for sure, I'd rather wait for a perfected product, rather than a half-arsed one that looks rushed.

3 It is not edge to edge display

I still see bezels. They may be thinner, but they're still there. Rumours early on suggested the X would be like a slate of glass. Sorry, but it's not. Far from it. There are bezels there. Throw in the notch, throw in the black borders that the software will put in, throw in the narrower screen size to the Plus, and you're not really watching content on this magnifificent edge to edge giant screen, are you? You will be disappointed.

I actually prefer bezels, just makes it easier to hold the phone when watching things without touching the screen.

4 No home button

For 10 years you have used the home button. Up until the 5, it was a push and then a slide across. From the 5s, it was simply a push. Worked beautifully. I myself never registered all of my fingers for touch ID, I never registered my two little fingers, so if I just wanted to see the time or a notification without opening the phone, I'd use my little finger. That will be no more with the X. Now you got to get used to making sure the phone sees you, wait a little bit, then swipe up. Don't underestimate how this will force you to change your habits, when you''re driving, when you're in a meeting, when you're half asleep or in any situation when you shouldn't be looking at your phone. You will not be able to discreetly unlock your X. Think about it, for 10 years you touched a button, now you got to look at it, wait a couple of seconds, and swipe up. I'm sure there will be many other instances which will play out when you use the device.

Love the home button!!! It's perfect. It wasn't broke, no idea why they fixed it. They should have kept it and just reduced the bezels at the top of the phone.

5 Face ID

Following on from point 4, Face ID was not Apple's preference. It is simply the technology Apple had to fall back on when they realised that their preference would not be workable in time for the launch. They wanted touch ID under the screen. This in itself is an admission from Apple that touching your phone is still the best and securest method to unlock your phone, though Apple will never publicly admit it, except of course when screen touch id is available in a future phone and they will spend half the keynote talking about how it pisses all over Face ID. Apple wanted screen touch id, we all wanted screen touch id , but not to be. Instead, you will be getting a product which Apple added as a compromise. Basically, if Apple could have got screen touch ID to work, it would have been in the X. Samsung couldn't get touch screen ID to work, so it put the touch ID button at the back. Apple couldn't get screen touch id to work, so it went with Face id. What's the difference, they are both inferior compromises? The 8 Plus will still have the trusty home button with touch ID that you have all grown to love.

I don't like the concept of this, then again I haven't tried it - it might completely life changing? Difficult to judge it without having tried it. But I also agree it was a backup solution, just more evidence this launch was rushed. Again, I'd rather wait a couple years for better models to come out!

6 Two handed use

When the 6 Plus was released 3 years ago, this place was in meltdown about the iPhone no longer being a one handed device. Well the X will take it to another level. The screen is now longer, yes shorter bezels at the top and bottom, but unbelievably, the X won't come with reachability. Expect to see that back in a future software update or device once Apple realises that they screwed up in getting rid of reachability. But, and this is a huge but, you have to swipe down right of the notch for control centre and left of the notch for notifications. Good luck with your one handed use X owners.

I use my 8+ with one hand, reachability is great and I was worried about getting the + because I have tiny hands, but it's actually very nice to use (if a little heavy). Reachability is great on all the phones (again, little hands) so the X would just be a pain to use. But again, we haven't tried it yet, so can't really judge based on that. But it does sound like it wouldn't be that great reachability wise.

7 Specs

There is alot of similarities between the 8 Plus and the X. Both will have similar cameras, the same glass back, wireless charging, same storage capacity, same water resistant rating, both will have 3 gigs of ram, both will have the same A11 chip and both will have augmented reality. To me, the only benefit you're gonna get with the X over the 8 Plus is a little bit more with the camera and Animojis. But the 8 Plus camera will be a beast and I'm tipping after 2 weeks, if not 2 days, X users will over the animojis. But you see, the 8 Plus will have its own advantages, a wider screen and touch id. Honestly, is the X that much of a superior device?

Yeah, tbh the people who are gonna get the X aren't just getting it for the specs, they're getting it for what it looks like.

8 Colours

Not a biggy, but the gold colour the 8s will come in is probably the sleekest colour I have seen on an iphone. It looks magnificent. For those who still see the iphone as a fashion accessory, which I personally don't, you won't get the X in that colour.

True, I have the Gold 8+ and it's BEAUTIFUL. I'm not content with black/silver phones anymore! BUT another reason to wait, because they'll definitely release other colours of the X in due time.

9 Price.

The X will be the most expensive iphone in history. If you live in Australia like me, you'll be forking out $1,800 for the 256g model. That is not only insane, it is a rip off. If you want to fork out that much for a phone with a narrower screen than a Plus, a notch which will block your content, a device you cannot use with one hand, no trusted touch id home button and Face Id which was Apple's second choice because it was not good enough to make screen id work, then be my guest, you've got more dollars than sense.

Yep. Too expensive. Another reason to wait, in a couple of years, this will be the norm and the price will either come down or the economy will do better and it'll look like the price is coming down. Even if it doesn't, in a few years it'll be NORMAL to spend that much on a phone, right now it isn't. And why spend upwards of £/$1000 on a rushed, unperfected model when if you wait a year or two, you'll get a much more refined (possibly notch free) phone!

10 First Gen

It is a first gen device. Buyer beware. Beware beware beware. I'm sure in years to come the notch will go, reachability will be back, the bezels will be thinner, the width of the screen will be equal to the Plus and touch id will be back bigger and better than ever, under the screen.. and then I will get myself an X...but until then, beware the X.

You have been warned.

^ Agree.

---

To summarise, I agree mostly with the OP. The X is rushed just to get it out on the 10year anniversary. I'd rather have a 'dated' phone for a couple more years and get a refined, well thought out model.

I think I would regret more settling for an old design by getting the 8 plus than the x. Which is why it’s the x all the way

My 7 plus is still pretty damn good

I will never regret getting the X over the plus.

Never, ever will I regret it.

Never. Not now not ever.

No regretting getting the X.

I just want to say I’ve already gotten used to the notch, I’ve been looking at pictures of the iPhone X every day. It doesn’t seem strange to me.
