Sorry, i should have spaced out my response, i did your method and got tethering to work just fine. My question was directed towards anyone that could help really. I cant get the Cellular Data Network menu to pop open. I did the whole config thing to get the tethering to work but i dont understand why i need tethering to work to get the MMS feature,

right now MMS DOES NOT work... unfortunately... with the method posted in the 1st page you get MMS icons and stuff but when you try to send an MMS it fails... so right now only tethering works... if you are interested.

Restored the phone from scatch, used the file by Darkknight and BOTH VVM and tethering worked right from the start.

Any suggestions on getting voicemail back using your method?

Brian

Have you tried Zillan's method of restoring voice mail?

1. Connect the phone to itunes and option click restore
2. Navigate to your user name->Library->iTunes->iPhone Carrier Support
3. Select the file contained within "iPhone Carrier Support" and proceed

Just to confirm.

Using the mobile config file linked in here does not break VVM ?

If it does, is there a way to fix it inside windows? Id rather have tethering then VVM but both would be sweet.

Confirmed, worked great for me under Windows and I still have VVM.

Yes and under iPhone Carrier Support I see ATT_US.ipcc. It's grayed out. I don't know what to do next. Any help would be appreciated.

EDIT:

nevermind...i fixed my own VM problem.

I restored from a back up I did just before installing the patch. VM is back and so are the cellular data options. MMS *would* work if the AT&T block was removed. The option is there, there is a camera in the "messages" where you can attach a pic or take a new one, I know the MMS settings are correct.

I don't usually don't join in the AT&T bashing as I've been pretty ok with them, but the MMS issue is a huge bungle. We don't *need* to have it, but for the most advanced smart phone out there to be lacking in it. First it was shame on Apple, now it's shame on AT&T. They had time to start fixing this.

I can attest that Darknight's way works 100% and does NOT disable Visual Voicemail. I will be using this from now on.

However, they will probably charge us for the data even though we have unlimited data, just because we are tethering.

I did this as well and it DID disable my voicemail. I assume the directions above will help me restore voicemail.

I made it very explicit in the original post that steps 3 onward are only for if you want the MMS settings in the phone.

From what I have been reading, it seems you need to call AT&T to unlock the MMS....again if anyone has got it working...please post!

To Clarify,

Use Darknight16 method if using windows, mac and don't want to get any MMS icons in the messages app to get tethering.

Use my method on the 1st page to get both tethering and MMS icons in the messages app. (unfortunately it's mac only)

*nobody has figured out how to send MMS. (yet)

I have voicemail working and tethering working.

1. Download the file on your computer -> unzip -> email to yourself ->open, install directly on phone. Restart phone.

2. Call your cell phone, leave voicemail, check to see if you get the voicemail. If you do then you are all set or follow the Library -> IPCC file thingy.

3. If the file is grayed out, I think you have to type in the command which you can find on the 9to5mac website and then try the ipcc file again.

Enjoy.

EDIT: The Library --> IPCC file is MAC ONLY.

I did your method and still have no MMS icons, when you go into cellular data network menu, where do you type all that in? Under MMS if so all you need is the MMSC and proxy. I have a questoin though, you run that mounted image and its an ipcc first, then it disables VVM, then to get it back you have to run the other ipcc file to restore it, doing this removes my cellular data network menu and still didnt fix VVM unless i restart my phone.

Still trying to look into this. This is one thing someone did to get theirs back:

Just let the iPhone dial into voicemail. Allow the message to go all the way through. Do it one more time.

Visual voice mail returns. Mine took less than five minutes but this has worked for everyone. It needs to kick is is all.

See if that helps while I keep digging.

you have to enable MMS first. that settings is under Settings > Messages.
