The 9.7 seems to have many more features.. I can see why the 12.9ers would be pi55ed! and a 1/3rd less weight. i think it has to be the best all round iPad right now. PC replacement - still not feeling it.
  • Live Photos
  • Autofocus with Focus Pixels
  • True Tone flash
  • Panorama (up to 63 megapixels)
  • Auto HDR for photos
  • Sapphire crystal lens cover
  • Improved local tone mapping
  • Improved noise reduction
  • 4K video
  • Slo-mo video support for 1080p at 120 fps and 720p at 240 fps
  • Cinematic video stabilisation
  • 5 megapixel photos
  • Retina Flash
  • More LTE bands

Probably charges much faster too.

The iPP 12.9 is NOT outdated! At least as far as I am concerned.

I have never taken a photo with any of my iPads so the camera changes in the 9.7 do not mean a thing to me. I do hope and fully expect those types of changes will be in the next iPhone, which is what I do use to take all my photos.

The True Tone display is a nice feature that will come to the 12.9 in the next release. It is not a reason for me to sell my 12.9 because I love the larger size. I do all my artwork on my iPP and do not want to lose any screen size for a new feature that will be available if we are patient.

The 256gb is a great and needed feature and one that I do want. I will be able to sell my 128 to my friend and order the 256.

I may be wrong but I don't think the new features that Apple added to the 9.7 were either available or perfected enough to be included in the 12.9 when it was released last fall. Technology changes so fast and life is too short to get worked up about things like this.

The True Tone display is the one MAJOR burn if you're an iPP 12 owner (in my eyes anyhow...)

That's a truly killer feature

I don't' think so IMO - I prefer the color of my IPad to stay the same no matter what ambient light. I'm sure you can probably turn this off in the settings. I do however like that 25% more color gamut seems to be identical to the iMac 5K display tech!

It depends. Given the amount of complaints about warmer screen color in the past, if this feature can not be turned on/off, I think there will be many who do not like this. There are those who prefer that bright blue white display all the time and a warmer screen based on lighting conditions....I can already hear it!

I'd be pretty surprised if you can't turn it off honestly.
And assuming you can, it's a wonderful feature to have

I wouldn't call it completely outdated. It's size for one thing still makes it very viable.
If I ever see someone taking a picture or video with a 12" iPad Pro I'm just going to laugh.. At least with the 9" it'll be a little bit less ridiculous.. but still absolutely ridiculous.
However I do like the True Tone white balance shifting, that's a huge wow in my mind and definitely something, had I got the iPad Pro, I wouldn't be happy about.

The new 9.7-inch iPad Pro does have a lot more advanced features than the 12.9-inch iPad Pro, which is surprising as I would have expected Apple to keep the most expensive model 12.9-inch model the one with the most advanced features.

Most of the new features appear to be on the camera, and I never use my camera on my iPad's. I only use the camera on my iPhone 6.

I bought my 12.9-inch iPad Pro when it was first released in November, and I didn't like it at first and thought it was too big and heavy. Now it seems light and the perfect size, and my 9.7 iPad Air seems too small (though I still use it a lot). For me the 12.9-inch iPad is still the best of the two iPad's.

I'm interested to know what the "Wide colour display" is (I know what "True tone colour" is from watching the Apple video). I would presume there is no noticeable difference between the full picture quality of the 9.7-inch and 12.9-inch of the iPad Pro. I would presume with the 12.9" having a much higher resolution display 2732x2048 resolution compared the 9.7-inch, 2048x1536 resolution. That the 9.7-inch 'Wide colour display' is there to match and look the same as the 12.9-inch 2732x2048 resolution display.

I might buy the 9.7-inch iPad Pro when it get's it's next upgrade (I presume this time next year), but for now I'm more than happy with my 12.9-inch iPad Pro and I look forward to the upgrade if 12.9-inch later this year.

Wouldn't you want the option for both ideally though?
(To your point - it's likely an option anyhow)

Dude, I'd want everything including the kitchen sink if I could! But these things are not on my priority list. The 13" display is and even though it's great for reading content, I don't want my screen to dim warm color temp matching my kitchen when I'm trying to draw stuff. All the color matching is just added bonus for certain situations. What I'm excited about is that new USB adapter that supports USB 3.0 on my IPP 13. Poor saps using their 10" will be using only USB 2.0 :D

I think you mean USB 2 on the 9.7"

I agree that it's a wonderful feature, the one thing I'm disappointed about, otherwise I still prefer my 12.9 IPP. But will be interesting to see if it can be turned on/off.

Well I definitely feel like the announcement of the new iPad Pro feels a bit like a slap in the face!

I've owned an iPad Pro since launch in November and here we are in March, approximately 4 months later, and Apple announce the launch of a newer smaller iPad pro. That wasn't particularly unexpected (although it wasn't at all obvious back in November/December of 2015 - just over 12 or so weeks ago) and the choice between 2 screen sizes is mostly sensible and understandable. But to upgrade the internals of an ever-so-slightly newer iPad 9.7 inch version with greatly improved 12MP camera, vastly improved 5MP FaceTime camera, 4K video shooting and a massively improved True Tone screen with widely improved colour gamut range (+25%)… well it feels quite a bit like a stab in the back of the consumers who purchased the iPad Pro 12.9 inch version over the past few weeks.

The window of time provided between the Pro model specification improvements was far too short.

It also doesn't help that Apple have decided to now offer 256GB versions of the iPad Pro 12.9 inch and iPad Pro 9.7 inch either. Why couldn't they have offered that for the Pro 12.9 inch in November?!

I can't say I'm very impressed. I can say I feel short changed. And I can even say I feel a little betrayed.

It's all a bit Rotten Apple.

It's outdated alright:

* 5MP front FaceTime camera
* 4K capable rear video camera
* 1080p 60fps rear video camera
* OIS
* LTE band 12 Tmobile support
* update design on antenna in back now full aluminum back cover antenna area with plastic outline
* Dual tone camera FLASH
* True tone display

Um, yea, it's pretty much what an IPP 13" should've had to begin with.
Didn't notice that. Any pics?

I would have bought a 256gb in 12.9 if it was available in November, but I'm not too bothered about this. But I'm more concerned of if the 9.7 has a better display than the 12.9.

Apple says "The 12.9‑inch iPad Pro has the highest resolution of any iOS device", then says "The new 9.7-inch iPad Pro screen — our most advanced display — is the brightest and least reflective in the world". Do both displays look the same on the surface?

Shame that Apple today did all the comparisons between the 9.7 iPad Pro and iPad Air 2. It would have been good for a couple of comparisons between the 9.7 and 12.9 on things like the display, if there are any major overall differences in the look and experience of the displays.

9.7 IPP has the 5K iMac display tech - extra 25% color gamut and I'm assuming maybe even more.

sry guys, but the camera is normal to be higher specs on the most compact ipad, because is more portable. next you want a 16MP in a laptop to take photos/videos with it? so Apple thought about it very good. The single difference between those is that True display thing.
For designers sadly the 9.7" display size and that camera stick out is a no go, unless they buy a case but still the display size is a must. and i think the speakers will not be as loud as the 12.9" beacuse of the space in it

for those that think the 12 IPP is outdated or are going to be selling, what do you guys think they will go for? do you think you should have sold before the event?
