for those that think the 12 IPP is outdated or are going to be selling, what do you guys think they will go for? do you think you should have sold before the event?

Personally not going to sell my IPP LTE but I don't think there is a market for this behemoth now they see the little 10" model has so much more offering at so little price vs the 13". If you sell now, you'd be stupid to buy it unless you were in the market for something with a larger display and substantially heavier weight. For me I care about the display and the weight can be lighter but most importantly to me is the LTE band 12.

Handwriting and drawing needs space.

Larger screen.
Batteries are larger.
Same CPU / GPU.
Larger keyboard.

I don't think the 12,9" is outdated, on the contrary the 9,7" is overpriced if you compare the advantage of the bigger display. Also, no word on RAM. But I admit it is probably the same.

I don't mind Apple needs to test the RGB backlight. I'm glad mine does NOT change color.

9.7 IPP has the 5K iMac display tech - extra 25% color gamut and I'm assuming maybe even more.
so the 12.9", the only difference is that true display thing

That's impressive. It's very tempting to want to buy the new 9.7 iPad Pro. The main reason I bought a 12.9 iPad Pro was because of the very high picture resolution, not because it's 12.9-inches. But I will wait until the next upgrade of the 12.9, but I sure wasn't expecting the new 9.7 to outclass the 12.9 in tech specifications.

Dude, I'd want everything including the kitchen sink if I could! But these things are not on my priority list. The 13" display is and even though it's great for reading content, I don't want my screen to dim warm color temp matching my kitchen when I'm trying to draw stuff. All the color matching is just added bonus for certain situations. What I'm excited about is that new USB adapter that supports USB 3.0 on my IPP 13. Poor saps using their 10" will be using only USB 2.0 :D

I really don't feel that USB 2 or 3 is significant anymore since ipads can transfer files via WIFI. Also since Apple themselves are pushing cloud storage, USB becomes less important and desired.

nobody will take pictures often with a 13"

Regardless, Apple will use the 12mp camera and such as a selling point for the next 12.9" iPad Pro.

I have taken pictures and videos with the iPad pro because I had it on me at the moment and my iPhone was far away - therefore I had to use the iPad to get the shot. Having a better camera available to you can be very useful

The USB 3.0 can be much more than just transferring data. Apple literally said you can connect hubs, Ethernet, midi/audio devices. The list will grow. USB 3.0 will allow faster charging as well. But yes, currently I have a NAS setup at home all using wireless connection. So it's really moot but what I don't get is they advertise 4K video editing even up to THREE streams on the IPP 13 but yet they give you a piece of crap camera and no way to upload the 4K video via the USB 3.0 lightning port before. Now they give you 256GB options AND throw in a 4K camera on the IPP 9.7" - that device is PERFECT for a VIEWFINDER - you guys who don't shoot video do not understand the bigger the viewfinder, the better it is With any photography. The 13" is way too big but not because of display size it's because of the damn weight. The 9.7" is so perfect.

All the new features if the 9.7 iPP compared to 12.9 iPP means nothing to me, compared to the halved sized display. The color gamut means nothing too, because all JPEG photos are taken in sRGB, which was already fine and is not improved. Even movies still are not available in P3 color space.

Would say that the displays of the 9.7 and 12.9 will look the same, considering the 12.9 has a much higher display resolution?

Even a 9.7" iPad looks ridiculous to take photos and videos. For this kind of things the iPhone is much better suited....

This is why I've been waiting for the 9.7 iPP release. I've wanted the 12.9 iPP for a couple of months. I was hesitant to buy, wondering if the 9.7 would have things that the 12.9 didn't. I was put off by the 12.9 iPP camera not being updated from the Air 2. The 12.9 iPP was released 1 year after the Air 2. Why the same camera? Obviously they're still updating cameras, given what the 9.7 IPP has.

No, I'm never going to hold a huge iPad up out in public to take a picture. But when I'm sitting at home holding my iPad, there are plenty of times I want to take a picture (pets, kids, etc...). I don't want to put my iPad down and pick my iPhone up every time I want to take a photo. Camera does matter to me. I can see why it doesn't to some, but it does to me. Maybe they should release a slightly less expensive version of each iPad w/out camera or something.

Anyway, this is what I worried would happen (smaller iPP is better, save for the smaller screen). I understand tech improves. The newest releases get the most/best features. I'm not talking about waiting for the next version when the new version has been out for a week. That's silly, as the next version is always going to have better specs. There's always going to be a next version, so you'd always be waiting to buy if you waited for that stuff. But:

1) This tech wasn't available a few months ago (it couldn't have been put in the 12.9)?
2) A year goes by between Air 2 and iPP 12.9 and there's ZERO improvement on the camera?
3) If you're going to have a "big boy" that's more expensive than the others, there should be some exclusivity other than a bigger screen.

tl;dr - I wish the 12.9 could've been refreshed to match the specs of the 9.7. I get why they didn't, as it would be a kick in the gut to anybody who bought the 12.9 over the past few months. I need the big screen of the 12.9 iPP, but I'm going to wait for the next release, hoping it gets some nice updates like this 9.7 version got.

I would say the that photos and videos look much better on the 12.9 iPP because the 9.7 iPP "improvements" are bringing no advantage but the screen is much bigger on the 12.9".

But by the same logic the iPhone 5 is not outdated when compared to the 6S..?
I really don't see the problem with the camera and 99% of people will rock a cover so it will not be protruding.
I'd rather have the better camera. YMMV.

Lol - so true - 99% of the folks will slap a cover or case on. People worry about protruding lens? Come on! Don't let this protruding lens distract you from the real truth - all those missing features on an iPad Pro 12.9"! Where is my free upgrade to Hey Siri WHEN NOT PLUGGED IN! iPad Pro 9.7 can do this I scratch my head how the heck my 12.9" can't?

Yup. This is my largest complaint. I mean I understand the camera upgrade since it has been half a year. I'm not bothered because I really only use the front facing camera. The screen improvements would be nice but not killer.

But....Why is there no Always On Siri? Same chip and no feature? That's actually ridiculous  and makes no sense.

Would you honestly use always on Siri? I have it off on my iPad because I don't need my phone going off at the same time.

Personally I don't see a reason to get the 9.7 over the 12.9.
Improved camera doesn't mean anything to me since I would never use a tablet for photos. the screen changing color temperature based on lighting would really annoy me (though I'm assuming you could turn it off). And it looks like the smaller IPP is underclocked compared to the larger IPP according to the spec sheet.
I would much rather have the significantly larger screen real estate.

I actually do. I have my iPad set up right in the center of my living area so I can quickly ask it for information when I'm home.

Well I definitely feel like the announcement of the new iPad Pro feels a bit like a slap in the face!

I've owned an iPad Pro since launch in November and here we are in March, approximately 4 months later, and Apple announce the launch of a newer smaller iPad pro. That wasn't particularly unexpected (although it wasn't at all obvious back in November/December of 2015 - just over 12 or so weeks ago) and the choice between 2 screen sizes is mostly sensible and understandable. But to upgrade the internals of an ever-so-slightly newer iPad 9.7 inch version with greatly improved 12MP camera, vastly improved 5MP FaceTime camera, 4K video shooting and a massively improved True Tone screen with widely improved colour gamut range (+25%)… well it feels quite a bit like a stab in the back of the consumers who purchased the iPad Pro 12.9 inch version over the past few weeks.

The window of time provided between the Pro model specification improvements was far too short.

It also doesn't help that Apple have decided to now offer 256GB versions of the iPad Pro 12.9 inch and iPad Pro 9.7 inch either. Why couldn't they have offered that for the Pro 12.9 inch in November?!

I can't say I'm very impressed. I can say I feel short changed. And I can even say I feel a little betrayed.

It's all a bit Rotten Apple.
Trust me, I will not be first in line for none of apple's future devices...you don't buy a device and 4 months later this happens...sorry I feel disenfranchised

Ya'll are missing the really important thing here...

Where's the rose gold 12.9"er?!?!? :(

Seriously though, 'big' Pro owners can't feel disappointed. It's the most 'pro' of the two: more real estate, faster, better I/O, no tragic protruding camera (and frankly the rear camera on the big Pro just shouldn't be there anyway), a Smart Keyboard that isn't "infuriating" (see hands on impressions), and I don't think professionals want the tint of their screen changing as they work.

They're both excellent iPads tailored for their respective - different - target markets.
