Are you serious?

That is a legitimate complaint. I have both the Apple Pencil and a Surface Pro 4 pen. The pen lasts months on a single battery (because it turns itself off and has a button to wake it up), but the Apple Pencil will lose half its charge in a week or so, just sitting there.

you know that charging the apple pencil fully it takes only 30 min
[doublepost=1458933846][/doublepost]the only main nice addition to the smaller ipad pro are the 40% less reflective screen, 25% brighter display, wider colour gamut , 25% more colour saturation , and i think all of these combined makes a difference between an 12.9" ipad pro

I don't care if it takes 30 seconds. It shouldn't need to be charged constantly at all. A bad design.

No, he stated that 4GB "helps" run two apps side by side. I can run two apps side by side with 2GB. So the 4GB is irrelevant to that particular point.

Depends on the content in the apps. When I run a CAD file with a second app, the 4gb helps a lot. Just depends on your usage. For you it doesn't matter, for me it make a big difference.

Yes, they have different use cases for different users, but I am stating for the most part (specs wise), they are the same and will perform the same.
ehhhhh, wrong. I wouldn't call one of the biggest aspects of specs being the ram at 4gb vs 2gb the same. 4gb vs 2gb adds at least 1-2 years extra of shelf life.

i always choose apple pencil that lasts 2-3 weeks and recharge it for 30 min than pen surface that after 6-7 months i need to buy a new one. bad design, because like in cars accessories after a while you cant find anymore. so an ipad pro with pencil can last 5-6 years, while the pen can use until Microsoft don;t sell it anymore and must buy a new surface

PS "constantly" for you means 1/month or in the worst case 1/2 weeks ?
wow, how often you charge your phone? whats less than "constantly" ?

Why does the 12.9 seem outdated? Simple, it was due out this time last year but missed the date. A9X development was speeded up as an A8X would have looked bad against the 6S, and it was then released in November. The 9.7 was intended for this year so will have better specs in places. No link for the story on this, but google and you will find it.

You don't buy a new Surface pen, you replace the battery. And the pen is a WACOM standard pen, not proprietary, like the Apple Pencil is.

I don't believe what people find to complain about. The pencil charges in, like, half an hour and lasts for days with average use. It also has a much better pressure curve and latency than the Surface Pro 4 pen and (subjectively) feels a lot better in hand. It is the best stylus out there. It's like people ignore all the awesome stuff and find one thing to complain about. It beats the pants off that Surface Pro pen.

I don't care it's awesome in every regard and a technical marvel (compared to industry standard Wacom Intuos pens) - I want one thing it doesn't have so it's a bad design.

Um, no it's not. Actually, it's Apple at it's finest. Best stylus there is.

Let's see. 9.7 IPP has 2 GB RAM rather than 4GB, a CPU that's underclocked--together resulting in speeds LOWER than the 12.9 despite pushing a lot fewer pixels. And the 9.7 IPP has a USB 2 Lightning port whereas the 12.9 has a USB 3 Lightning port. And somehow that makes the 12.9 obsolete. I think not.

After waiting months for the 9.7 to be announced, I was disappointed by the fact that Apple chose to cripple it and took another look at the 12.9. I was able to get a 128 GB WIFI 12.9 inch IPP for $799 from Best Buy on a price match for that same price from Staples. Larger screen, better performance for $50 more than the comparable 9.7 (128 GB WIFI). To me that's a no brainer in favor of the 12.9 IPP.

Two of my friends made the same choice. As always YMMV.

Did the same thing, but unfortunately couldn't deal with the size. The 9.7 will be great for a year or so though and that's what I need.

I'd choose an active stylus with rechargeable battery over one which needs me to go out to buy non-rechargeable cells.

The main changes are in the camera. Do you really intend to hold up that huge 12.9" iPad to take Panoramas and photos?

Well that's not the point, and having that is really good convenience. And sometimes people use the camera for different reasons, mostly in the productivity area (scanning documents, etc). It's a good thing that Apple improves the camera because it can potentially open up new doors for new functionality. Like augmented reality. Or anything!!!

Microsoft used WACOM technology on the surface pro and pro 2, but since the surface 3, they've used N-trig which is actually proprietary to Microsoft as they bought the technology assets.

Being a 12.9" iPP owner I don't feel bad about the new machine. The main thing I got the 12.9" for is taking notes... and the fact that it's as big as a normal piece of paper makes a _huge_ difference. The screen _size_ alone differentiates it.

Add in the 4GB of RAM (multitasking is _awesome_ on the 12.9" iPP) and the "big one" is still "better" in my eyes.

But - this is always the nature of technology... it's going to move on! Everything you buy will be "outdated" soon. Just be happy with the gear you've got... until you're not... then go buy some new stuff ;-)

Well I definitely feel like the announcement of the new iPad Pro feels a bit like a slap in the face!

I've owned an iPad Pro since launch in November and here we are in March, approximately 4 months later, and Apple announce the launch of a newer smaller iPad pro. That wasn't particularly unexpected (although it wasn't at all obvious back in November/December of 2015 - just over 12 or so weeks ago) and the choice between 2 screen sizes is mostly sensible and understandable. But to upgrade the internals of an ever-so-slightly newer iPad 9.7 inch version with greatly improved 12MP camera, vastly improved 5MP FaceTime camera, 4K video shooting and a massively improved True Tone screen with widely improved colour gamut range (+25%)… well it feels quite a bit like a stab in the back of the consumers who purchased the iPad Pro 12.9 inch version over the past few weeks.

The window of time provided between the Pro model specification improvements was far too short.

It also doesn't help that Apple have decided to now offer 256GB versions of the iPad Pro 12.9 inch and iPad Pro 9.7 inch either. Why couldn't they have offered that for the Pro 12.9 inch in November?!

I can't say I'm very impressed. I can say I feel short changed. And I can even say I feel a little betrayed.

It's all a bit Rotten Apple.
I agree with your sentiments about Apple's choices.

A blatant example of the Cupertino Companies ongoing hypocrisy. They claim that "they do it for us" quite often, yet the truth is no other company manipulates their customer base like Apple does. Almost like we're beaten into submission, Apple masterfully gets what Apple wants all the time without pushback of consequence. It really is quite the accomplishment. A testimony to the magic powers of Steve Jobs.

I have read some of the comments stating that people are a little mad that the 19.9 and 9.7 weeren't released at the same time, but i am actually very happy that they chose to stagger them. The reason being is that i was uncomfortable with the 12.9 screen at first. If they released the 9.7 at the same time, I probably would have played it safe and just got the 9.7 since thats what I have been comfortable with.

Now, i can confidently say that I will never want to buy another ipad that isn't a 12.9.

More on topic, the 12.9 is a pretty damn fast and awesome machine. Feels state of the art to me no matter what the specs of the new one are (and i love specs! :p).

[doublepost=1458997978][/doublepost]But when you bought it, it obviously met your requirements. I actually ordered a 12.9 today. 950 for a 128gb lte/wifi is not too bad.

I'm sorry. I can't help but giggle when I hear the term "future proof" knowing the state of technology today

I a lot of people who buy tech products think they are buying an investment that is supposed to keep its value. You buy it for the requirements at hand and you use it until it no longer meets those requirements, as long is it does I could care less how many updates come to the hardware.

At the same time, over on 9.7" section of the forum, new owners are feeling "betrayed" because the smaller Pro has only 2Gb or RAM and no USB3....

It's kinda sad how people are never satisfied :)

Apple need some more innovation people that see with real mined, for example iPad pro 9.7" should come out first and now put out the 12.9" model.
