So I did a test with my new 12 Mini. Restarting it, I do that from time to time, and leaving 5GHZ WiFi connection on, everything else is in airplane mode. iPhone was 2m away from my router, so I would say very close. No notifications and 14-15% battery loss in 10h, from 16% to 1-2%. WTF.

And of course battery stats show no use of any kind.

On my 12 Pro its hit or miss, around 50/50 it will have battery drain overnight. My wife's Mini is more like only 15% chance it will have battery drain overnight. Will see what the next update brings. I'm definitely turning off auto updates, will stick around on stable releases. Getting burned on this one and the latest on Big Sur on my M1 MBA.

I think this is the reason why phones seem to stay at 100% longer:
I have the 12PM
Battery design capacity - ~3670 according to reports.
Actual capacity is slightly higher if you hook up to coconut battery on the Mac - ~3780-3800
The phone battery is calibrated to show 100% for the design capacity (~3670) and any value over it. So for the battery to report 99%, the juice reduces from ~3800 - 3630 and not from 3670. Its coming down from 105- 99 rather than 100. This is probably why it seems to stay longer at 100.
The battery health too follow similar calculation method I guess, thats why coconut battery and iOS numbers differ.

Nope. It is absurd you have access to Coconut battery yet can’t seem to get either the logic or math right.

I have used the method I explained on multiple iPhones that I have owned and I find my observations consistent.

So my Pro is improving all the time. Haven't used it today as i work from home and it's dropped 8 percent in 24 hours with background syncing, cloud back up and notifications, email etc switched on.
Quite happy with that.

I let my 12 Pro idle while using 12 Pro Max:
  • Last charge 92% Tuesday 10:33PM
  • 32% Friday 10:30PM
I'm sure it could have went well into Saturday. Screen on time was about an hour.

updated to iOS 14.3 last night, WiFi on, no 5G, Bluetooth off. Battery drain 16%

2.00 am 87%
7.45 am 74%

problem still persists. Where I live they don’t replace the phone or refund :(
really frustrated.

when typing this message I have lost another 2%.

Interesting on my 11 Pro I was seeing battery drain of over 10% overnight but since updating yesterday it has gone back to normal I think. Certainly not as much as it was draining earlier.

Poor signal is one of the biggest battery drainer actually since the phone constantly tried to cling on to the network.
This can't be stated enough. I went from Verizon to T-mobile and there was a considerable difference in battery life. Also as you said in a previous post exposure notification was draining your battery. Look for background apps that are constantly requesting GPS or Bluetooth. If you can't find the offending app or service start as new and install apps one by one till you have the problem.

When I got my new iPhone 12 I started it as a new phone so those hundred or so apps that I didn't really use didn't get automatically installed. Then I just downloaded apps as I needed them. Right now I have 54 apps and I'm sure on my last iPhone it was closer to 200.

I will post tomorrow. With the new update came a carrier update as well. So far my 12 Pro didn’t manifest an unusual battery drain today. I had my 12 Pro Max on standby since 6am. I will check tomorrow how much battery it has lost in 24 hours. I will post tomorrow.

im So glad I don’t obsess over this battery crap. I use the phone the way I want to. Charge it overnight while asleep. If and when it needs a new battery if I have it that long. I’ll get Apple to put a new one in.

So after 24 hours on standby, my 12 Pro Max only lost 3% of battery. My 12 Pro is draining normally like my 11 Pro. But my 12 Pro Max is now draining a tad fast after reaching the 24-hour mark. So I guess we can’t say iOS 14.3 has solved the battery drain issue.

Noticing standby drain on 12PM on iOS 14.3 - 8% over 7 hours. Maybe it will improve later, will give it a reboot and check next couple of days.
