It’s pretty obvious really. The phone is fast in all aspects of the UI except when closing apps.
I remember iphone xs exhibit the same behavior when it first launch but the scenario was different. It stutter when we let it idle for 10 seconds and then swipe to go home. Then stutter will occur. Hopefully it can be fix in near future

If it was a hardware problem, it would most likely happen all the time or at random times. The fact that it is correlated with a specific action (closing apps) strongly suggests it is a software issue - although I guess it’s not 100% proof.

I also seem to have some stutter while using apps. Scrolling isn’t totally smooth and switching apps will exhibit hitches as well. That said, I do still think it’s software related.

By the way, for those in the US, Happy Thanksgiving!

I don't know if this is in my mind, but I think it gets worse over time. It does fix temporarily with restart, but I found myself restarting more often than in the first days.

Based on my exp on how hardware and software works this is 99.9 percent a software issues. I could be wrong but doubt it.

No it’s not you, it definitely gets worse with time. My testing shows it happens when the memory gets full of suspended apps, so it’s fine after a reboot til the memory fills up again.

Anyone seen this issue on a regular 12? My wife’s 12 seems to be just fine and I personally never had this on my old XS which I already traded in so I’m thinking of just switching to the 12. The constant lagging and stuttering and being thrown into the app switcher is pretty much a deal breaker for a $1099 “Pro” phone. And the fact that we’re on iOS 14.3 with no resolution in sight is discouraging.

Same here on my XS. Scrolling in youtube feeds stutter like crazy

Apparently not that many people are affected, hence why there is no huge news on the front page. Its been over a month since the new devices launched and this thread has "only" 10 pages. Subtract multiple posts by people, then you would have even less pages...

Stil, this error is annoying AF. 😃 I go into multitasking menu instead of closing apps multiple times a day.

I have this issue at random times on my 12 Pro Max that's on 14.2.1. And in my case what happens is instead of the app closing after a stutter, I get sent to the app switcher. So I have to do the close gesture (swipe up from the bottom) twice because closing the app didn't work and I have to get rid of the app switcher.

Of course right now I can't get it to happen. Apps close smoothly and I'm back on the home screen with no hiccups. But I'm sure it'll come up at a random time to annoy me. I've also gotten into the habit of exaggerating the swipe up from the bottom gesture, so there's that, too. Whereas on my X, a quick flick from the bottom was good enough.

This is exactly my experience. I had a XS Max prior to this 12 Pro that was working just fine when closing apps. I have also resorted to exaggerating the flick up to avoid triggering the App Switcher. It doesn’t always work either.

Curiously, I had to reboot my 12 Pro on Wednesday morning because my AirPods weren’t working, and since then I’ve seen probably less than 10 stutters. Haven’t changed anything, still on the most recent 14.3 Beta, still using it as normal.

I had stutters on my 12 pro max as well and it's annoying. When I paid good $$$ for a product, I expect it to work well.

So worryingly it sounds like the latest beta doesn’t fix this?

Just started seeing weird ghost touch issues now too. The control center will open by itself randomly. It doesn’t happen often, maybe just when I first start using the phone again in the morning after a night of charging. Really weird. Anyone else experiencing this?

For what it’s worth, I turned on ‘reduce motion’ in the accessibility settings to see if it was primarily an animation issue. It still inadvertently triggered the App Switcher when I swiped up to go to the Home Screen.

I thought I was the only one. My 11 Pro Max was flawless. My non-Pro 12 has the lag when swiping up to go home.
