Stutter and keyboard lag are back on my 12 Pro Max running 14.2.1 like others have stated. Was issue free for 18 hr.

I’m not sure if this will help but I noticed on my XS Max was smoother when I removed widgets from the 2nd screen.

24 hours in with 14.2.1 and have had no stutters at all so far. Running great! Fingers still crossed though...

Well, I feel stupid for not testing this before, but my XS has this exact same stutter when closing apps. Not sure if there’s some app or setting common between it and my 12 Pro.

Putting on my computer engineer hat, I dug a little deeper, plugging both phones into my Mac and using the Console app to watch the iOS log for errors. On both devices, there’s a pretty clear correlation between the stutter and error messages from a process called “RunningBoard”.

Googling tells me that RunningBoard has something to do with managing background apps, which roughly fits into my theory that the stutter happens when the memory is full and background apps are forced to exit.

So yeah, definitely seems to be a software issue.

The stutter has just started coming back for me. Really disappointing after feeling like 14.2.1 had fixed it

Am I right in thinking that others with the pro max are suffering from the stutter, not just the pro? My Pro Max still has the issue.

Update
Been on silicone case. Prolly won’t take it of until Lews case gets here which may take some time. Don’t want to get use to bare phone and the nice feel of it.
So far pretty much continuing being stutter free. I think I had one or two stutters. I’m still on 14.2. Phone is fine so no need to update. Knowing my luck , the update will bring the stutter back.

I have been experiencing this on my Pro Max. I am tempted to return it for a 12 or 12 mini or even the Pro, but it sounds like it might be equally applying to both Pro models. My wife has a 12 and it runs perfectly smoothly while my Pro Max is frequently getting caught up and stuttering when I close or switch apps. I also get thrown into the app switcher several times per day.

I am consistently have this issue. I'm wondering if it could be the silicone case? My issue is that I will swipe up to go back to home screen and it will stutter and go to the app switcher instead.

I’m starting to see the app stutter again even with 14.2.1 on my 12 Max. It’s random and doesn’t seem to be connected to any other factors.

Dammit this is ridiculous, so many people have this problem and this is just on forum. Most don’t even bother looking online for this they just live with it.

This will just be a simple software fix. I remember the force touch stutter on the Xs but it took apple months to fix. Hopefully 14.3 is the answer.

Still getting this on my 12 Pro on 14.3 beta. It’s almost certainly software, as I also had it on my 11 Pro (and restored to that backup when I got my 12 Pro).

I don’t think cases or screen protectors have anything to do with it. Great digging from @willdude on a possible cause.

Reminds me of when my 6 Plus would randomly freeze for 5-10 seconds and a Jetsam (?) event would be logged. Went through 5 hardware exchanges for it, but thinking back it might’ve been software.

Has anyone tried a clean restore (i.e. not restoring from backup) and seeing if that fixes it?

I’ve submitted feedback on 14.3 through the Feedback app and would encourage everyone else to do the same - it’s a seemingly insignificant bug, but is driving me crazy!

Yeah, I've tried that with no luck.

Since I saw this on my XS as well, I spent a bit of time trying to see if I could find some setting (reset all settings; logged out of iCloud) or some app that's installed that's shared between it and my 12 Pro that's causing it, but came up empty.

I did a totally fresh factory reset and set up like a new phone without transferring anything and still had the stutter.
