I thought this as well back in 2019 regarding the animation stutter that appeared on the XS, XS Max and XR.
Apple has had a wallpaper problem since the release of the X. The kind of thing you notice only if you care about it. It eventually got fixed last year, that’s very many years on the backlog. I would imagine this is also on that looong sloow low priority backlog.

Please give multi bilion trilion company time to fix this ..they are probable busy with naming scheme for future products “Super sonic ultra pro max bionic xdr” 😂 actually those arent even joke but real names damn its so stupid ...here in europe i sometimes feel ashamed using iphone since this dumb marketing names work for US market in europe its just gimmick and all people are laughing

It didn't get fixed. In fact iOS 14 has it worse than iOS 13 ever did.

It was the vertical stretching that most concerned me as it prevented me from making pixel perfect wallpapers easily. While it may still be broken in OTHER ways, it’s been resolved enough for my use cases. (not to take this thread off topic) It’s not something I’d return the phone for to see if another one works better.

I’ve found a way to reproduce some kind of stutters recently. If you uses an Apple Watch with your iPhone, when you see swipe-up-stutters, try to launch the Watch App on your iPhone and scrolling down in the App immediately. For me, this 100% reproduce the stutter.

I’m also seeing the stutter issue. I also see issues with pinch/zoom, as there is a delay before the app recognizes that I’m trying to use two fingers and drags the image or app screen. Second try usually works.
Anyone else see this?

Not sure if this is anything new. The app is enumerating settings from the watch over bluetooth when you scroll down. I think it’s normal to be a little sluggish.

I thought this as well back in 2019 regarding the animation stutter that appeared on the XS, XS Max and XR. It still hasn't been fixed, I can observe it clearly and easily on my XR and I observed that exact same stutter in the iPhone 12 Pro Max at the store.

My advice for anyone who is bothered by this is to activate Reduce Motion and forget about it. Apple won't fix it. Back in 2018 this gained traction because the premium models were stuttering and there were articles about it. So Apple can't be unaware of the issue, they know it's there, it's just that a) they don't know how to fix it or b) they know how to fix it, but won't because it probably requires more effort than they want to put in.

The thing that tells me they absolutely won't fix this is the fact I was able to see this in the iPhone 12 Pro Max almost immediately at the store. If the latest and greatest model has this, what hopes does my XR have?

Reduce Motion on, good job Apple.

Oh and a disclaimer: what I said applies to the well-known animation stutter / frame rate drop that has been present since 2018. This may or may not be the same thing as the stutter that brings up the app switcher. What I wrote applies in general to the stutters seen in iOS these days because it's been here too long for me to think it will get fixed. As a side note, my dad's iPhone 6 doesn't have animation stutters. When I saw this, I quickly stopped hoping for a fix.
Hi guys, I remember this problem occourred when apple released iphone xs max, the models with 512 gb of ram had similiar problems. There were voices saying it was a bunch of faulty ram.
Can you tell me what is your amount of ram? I got this problems with 256 Gb.

It makes me think it's a ram problem since i got problems also with imovie. I record a video with the frontal cam with the iphone and if i edit with imovie (just by adding a few images) the file after the rendering has the audio and video out of syncro!! It happened to me 20 years ago with the cracked copy of pinnacle!!! I can't accept that my iphone 12 pro with the supersonic bionic processor makes tge same!!!

So the question is: how much ram do u have on your iphone 12 pro max? 256 or 128?
Mine was 256. (was because I send it back to amazon, I am waiting for the refund to buy another one and see if I am more lucky)

You're confusing RAM with primary storage. 12Pro Max has 6GB of RAM.

I used an XS Max for over two years and never noticed this issue. And I’m extremely sensitive to this stuff. My configuration was migrated via iCloud backup so the settings were identical, which should make config changes unnecessary.

It points to (12 pro max and 14.2/14.3) but we need more data.

512. I’m pretty sure it’s a software bug. I’ve been supporting hardware and software for years and this is very much software imho.

of ourse it seems software problem, but i think that we should have a discriminant... I think that it could be the fact that we have a delay in the access to to the internal storage. I don't know if iphone is doing memory swap with internal storage but maybe it could be a reason. If it was only software we should have had this problem on ALL the devices..and we know that the problem is common but in a very few units.
As a matter of facts i am doing a survey among my friends which don't have this problem and all of them have 128 gb.
Maybe this problem could occour with internal storage up to 256 and more that's why I'm asking here too.
Anyway I will order an iphone 12 pro max with 128 gb and let you know if i still have problems or not.

iOS/iPadOS do not use any kind of swap. Storage size almost certainly has nothing to do with this.

Agreed. Its 100% a software issue. Some don't see it because they may use their phones in different ways or just don't care/notice.

Yeah, it seems to be some combination of circumstances. Earlier, I stated I had not seen this on my 12 PM but I did yesterday for a very brief period and I have been unable to replicate it. I don't believe installed memory has anything to do with it.

There are apps that measure disk performance on the iPhone. I downloaded DiskBench for .99 cents and I get 1316mbps read and 685 write and have the stutter. I have a 512 12 max. They also have a database of many users comparisons for the iPhone models and the 512gb if anything is slightly faster esp writing then the 128gb version. I don't think those speeds are slow enough to cause a stutter so im not buying that for 1 second. Sorry.

so how do you name the out of sync of my video with imovie? and why in the majority of the devices

I think it's very strange that a software problem doesn't occur in many devices, including the old ones. Before buying the 12 pro max i had a xs max which didn't have any problem at all. So how could you explain a bug, a software problem which apple is not able to solve?? I don't want to have a defective phone waiting for a fix that everyone knows will never come. Not a 1400 euro phone.

well i really swear that i made lots of tests with two friends which have two different iphone 12 pro max each with 128 gb. we test for more than half an hour and we didn't see any kind of problem with both the devices. no stutter, no going to multitasking, no delay in video editing with imovie. we tested the same condition. Anyway i don't want to convince you 😊, But about me, personally, i don't want to keep a malfunctioning premium device. i will buy back an iphone pro.max 12 with 128 gb (which is enough for me). If I will still have problems i will send it back and will wait for iphone 13....
