well i really swear that i made lots of tests with two friends which have two different iphone 12 pro max each with 128 gb. we test for more than half an hour and we didn't see any kind of problem with both the devices. no stutter, no going to multitasking, no delay in video editing with imovie. we tested the same condition. Anyway i don't want to convince you 😊, But about me, personally, i don't want to keep a malfunctioning premium device. i will buy back an iphone pro.max 12 with 128 gb (which is enough for me). If I will still have problems i will send it back and will wait for iphone 13....
Download diskbench and see for yourself. The iPhone 12 all models are very fast at read and write speeds esp compared to even the iPhone 11 Pro.. My iPhone 12 Pro max is even faster then my 2020 iPad pro and it does not stutter. My 12 max pro has faster SSD, more RAM and faster cpu than an 11 pro. There is no hardware reason here for the stutter. Its very clear this is not the issue. Its a software bug im certain but im not sure how long it will take apple to fix.

Hi guys, I remember this problem occourred when apple released iphone xs max, the models with 512 gb of ram had similiar problems. There were voices saying it was a bunch of faulty ram.
Can you tell me what is your amount of ram? I got this problems with 256 Gb.

It makes me think it's a ram problem since i got problems also with imovie. I record a video with the frontal cam with the iphone and if i edit with imovie (just by adding a few images) the file after the rendering has the audio and video out of syncro!! It happened to me 20 years ago with the cracked copy of pinnacle!!! I can't accept that my iphone 12 pro with the supersonic bionic processor makes tge same!!!

So the question is: how much ram do u have on your iphone 12 pro max? 256 or 128?
Mine was 256. (was because I send it back to amazon, I am waiting for the refund to buy another one and see if I am more lucky)

Like others already said, it has nothing to do with storage, I'm sure. My phone is a 128 GB iPhone XR. My dad's phone is a 64GB of storage 1GB of RAM iPhone 6, no stutter. It's software and it is probably caused by a combination of factors, hence it isn't easy to diagnose and fix.

Agreed.

So I think we might leave apple. I am hardly thinkin 'bout it. Got a samsung A71 by replacement until i will have the iphone back, and it's really awesome. Only the camera sucks.... anyway that's what I'll do if I won't be able to solve this problem.

I’ve noticed this problem on my 64GB iPhone XS Max and 128GB iPhone 12 Pro Max.

Just got my 12 Pro Max 256GB and noticed the stutter right away. :-( I came from a 11 Pro Max 256GB which didn't have this problem.

I can live with it, because I love the new phone, but it's a shame that a phone with a cpu faster than a lot of laptops can't close apps with stuttering.

Yea its a pain but all phones have some issue or another. No way would I change my Apple eco system over to Android OS which I've used a lot and support but can't stand the fragmentation of the software/hardware.

Agree. I was a lifelong Android fan from its day one and still have six Android tablets and three phones stashed away. But I can't see ever going back to it - my 12.9 Pro and 12 Pro Max are by far the best devices I've owned and the availability of high quality apps is not matched on the Android side.

Getting to the point where it’s making the phone genuinely difficult to use. Seems like about every tenth swipe it goes into multitasking. Really just want some acknowledgment from Apple on my radar that they are aware/working on it etc. I love the Apple ecosystem and am firmly in it, but this bug is the biggest annoyance yet.

Are you sure you’re not making an slightly angled swipe?

I don't think I'm swiping any differently to my iPhone X, XS Max, 11 Pro, which didn't have the issue - though my 11 Pro did start to exhibit it on iOS 14, so I'm fairly certain it's a software bug.
that's the same for me. I use iphone since 3gs and changed many models and had nothing to do with this problem.
I don't really understand people saying "it's not a problem", you can live with it. It just like if i buy a ferrari which is defective because has a speed limit. Of course I can use the ferrari as a normal car, but if I wanted a normal car i would have never bought a ferrari!!
Everyone says that iphone 12 has the fastest processor in the whole world, so this problem for me it's a BIG problem. And I don't really want to see it in the fastest phone of the world.
Also, I don't reallt think about a software problem. If each device is built with the same architecture than the software should act the same way in all the devices. If there are a bunch of devices in which the software acts in a different way, i cannot really see any other problem than an hardware problem.
That's my pont of view.

Really doubt it's a hardware problem. People have reported getting replacements and still experiencing it, which makes that pretty unlikely considering this bug doesn't seem to be super widespread.

Problems in software, especially problems in complex software like an operating system, are much harder to diagnose. There are very few variables with hardware, but think of the number of variables in software. Maybe this is being caused by 10 different settings interacting, or a bug on your iCloud account caused by another device, or a memory leak caused by using X, Y or Z uncommon feature, etc etc.

As an aside, does anyone have a 2018 or 2020 iPad Pro and experience the same bug? I could have sworn I've invoked multitasking and had a stutter on more than one occasion on the iPad too. Don't use it often enough/change apps as frequently as my phone though to tell if it's definitely happening, or just my imagination.

well, I don't believe in software problem because the last thing i did on my phone was to create a new apple id and try to use the phone with the new apple id "AS TAKEN OUT OF THE BOX" with only the app that comes with the OS. And i had the same problem.
I tested 2 phone of my friends(iphone 12 pro max). They both restored a backup from the icloud and i mean a very used backup. Both the phones with the latest ios version and by testing for more than half an hour continuos opening/closing of the apps no stut at all. Both the devices were 128 Gb of storage. Mine was 256.
The test i did before trying with my friends ones was to go to the retailer and to open/close the apps to reproduce the stuttering. Even here, even 2 phones with 128 gb, no stutter at all. So the stuttering one was only mine.

I remember that a similiar problem occourred with the xs max when it came out and i remember that someone was talking about some kind of defective memory used for the internal storage which apple discovered not well performing. I think much more about a problem like this. Maybe the ones which had a swap unit were unlucky to have another defective unit. It's difficult but it can happen.
Anyway, the only thing i could do was to return my phone to amazon. I am waiting for the refund to buy another phone, but this time I'll pick up a 128 gb (which is fine with me because I save everything on the cloud) and I will let you know if I still have problems.

I also have an ipad pro 2020 11", and it has no problem at all.

One way I've discovered that makes this easier to recreate is, on the Pro models, enable the ProRAW camera option and take some RAW pictures. Since this capture option requires the higher RAM capacity of the Pro models, taking RAW pictures fills up the memory faster.

I fail to see how that makes it a hardware issue. Software issues most certainly can be specific to a certain device or piece of hardware.

Believe it or not, it’s definitely a software issue, since it affects every notched iPhone since iPhone X with iOS 14.

yes that's it... but why it has to be my piece of hardware or device?? I don't want it to be....if that software lroblems occours in that specific device than the manufacturer has to change the device to the user because that user in particular doesn't have the same "user experience" of the others.... anyway, maybe with a new device i won't solve the problem, but i just want to give it a try!

You are wasting your time as you have already been told. Others have swapped out theirs and wasted their time. It is a software issue. End of story.

If it’s bugging you that much just keep reporting it to Apple and wait out a (fingers crossed) fix from them.

You won’t solve your problem with a replacement, but I encourage you to do so, since doing so would definitely push Apple to solve this problem.
If everyone keeps doing so, Apple would no longer have the guts to ship untested software created by their overworked software team led by an incompetent leader.
