You won’t solve your problem with a replacement, but I encourage you to do so, since doing so would definitely push Apple to solve this problem.
If everyone keeps doing so, Apple would no longer have the guts to ship untested software created by their overworked software team led by an incompetent leader.

If only that were true. It will make no difference whatsoever. They will keep shipping out subpar software as is the norm with them now.

This issue may very well have popped up in a test but was given a lower priority to fix - s/w will always ship with identified bugs and the developing organization will assign a severity and priority to each. My last program (I'm retired now) for which I was System Architect had 13M SLOC and shipped with a lot of known bugs even though it was a critical command, control, communication and intelligence system. Standard defect density rates can you give a good idea of potential number of defects in a large software delivery, both known defects and final release escapes.

yes but one question remains in my head: "why some unit are not having any kind of problem"?
and this questione is followed by: " why, if there have been millions of lucky users, should't be me one of those?. Why have I to keep waiting till apple solves a problem that is not considered a problem by apple cause the genius just laughed at me? MaybeI will win the lottery and the replacement unit won't have this problem like many other million of users. Or maybe I will have the same problems...if i don't try, I don't know. one thing i'm sure: the price of the iphone12 pro max is EQUAL to one month of my salary. So I won't keep waiting for apple to bring a solution that i'm afraid, will never come out.

Because the manifestation of the problem can be dependent on multiple factors that not everyone will encounter. And there are a lot of people who would see this issue and not even notice it, much less report it (my wife being one - when I showed her, her reaction was "Yeah, so what?"). You think you're going to find another comparable product without issues? Good luck, you'll need it.

no no no...absolutely.... i'm using iphone since 3gs and if i am here is why is not a thing that you cannot notice!!! Are you buying a device just because it's cool or because you rely on it? I can accept my 300 euros samsung a71 is lagging, but NOT my iphone. Otherwise i wouldn't have bought an apple. and.... you say that i noticed because i'm always looking at that, well,...hell no! I didn't notice it on other 4 ( i said FOUR) device i tested. It makes me really crazy about how can you accept it!

I do notice it on my PM 12 but frankly a slight stutter that occurs sometimes when closing an app is pretty low on my list of concerns. It does not hinder my use of the phone in the least.

I only close apps when I'm doing a major IOS upgrade so I doubt I'll be getting upset about it.
oh well, by closing apps i mean swiping up and no closing from the multitasking! It' s a gesture that everyone makes more that 50 times a day being optimistic! Anyway i am happy for you if you're happy! And why are you writing here if you don't think it's a problem?? I think it's a big and annoying problem, and din't want it to happen on my device. Don't want it more when I read many people don't have it.

Again this is a software problem for sure. There are so many permutations and combinations of software and settings we all have on our phones. Could be something it a particular app or setting that's causing this to happen for more than others. Ive been supporting hardware and software for years and see issues like this and its software.

yes that's it... but why it has to be my piece of hardware or device?? I don't want it to be....if that software lroblems occours in that specific device than the manufacturer has to change the device to the user because that user in particular doesn't have the same "user experience" of the others.... anyway, maybe with a new device i won't solve the problem, but i just want to give it a try!
I don’t mean it can be specific to your device. I mean a bug can be specific to the 12 Pro Max for example.

Just to be clear here - I don't think any of us are force closing the apps. Most of us are referring to the stutter that happens on the swipe up gesture to return to the home screen. If it was just a stutter, it would be mildly annoying. But when the stutter breaks the gesture so a perfect swipe up (not an angled one or anything) end up in the multitasking view, that is what is so frustrating for us because it literally breaks the usage flow of navigating the phone.

that's exactly the point. Moreover i remember that my device (i don't know if it's the same with yours) has an out of synchro with imovie renders. So please explain what "Pro" stands for.

This is important. This thread is misleading because it says “closing apps” but we’re not talking about closing. We’re just talking about swiping up to go home. That gesture breaks probably 50% of the time for me because the stutter is enough to put it into multitasking mode instead of going home. It’s incredibly frustrating. I don’t believe there are many people who would have this issue and not care about it. I do believe however that it’s affecting a subset of users.

Let’s start narrowing stuff down. I use an Apple Watch. Is there anyone who is experiencing this as often as I am who doesn’t have an Apple Watch? I noticed sometimes I will see “blah blah is often used when Bluetooth is active” at the bottom in multitasking. Just a hunch.

Like others said, we just have to wait for the fix. But I’m desperate to reproduce the issue reliably or find the cause to submit a more substantial bug report.

ok, maybe you didn't read my previous posts (yes, unfort. i write alot).
I created a NEW APPLE ACCOUNT with another e-mail. Restored the phone in recovery mode by itunes. Without pairing the apple watch, without installing anything but the system apps I had the problem again and again.Always going to multitasking. I really don't think it's a software bug. Have you ever heard about defective devices?? Why apple should't have produced some defective devices??
from the tests i have made i found out that most of the problems are with iphone 12 pro.max with 256 Gb or more of storage. What's yours?

This is absolutely a software bug. I had a 11 Pro Max on iOS that I used for a year. As soon as I updated it to iOS 14 the problem started happening.

Then I got a 12 Pro Max and had the same issue.

It is most certainly a software issue. Probably around memory management. There is no way this is a hardware issue.
