Hi guys and ladies! I just registered to this forum just because of this thread. Excuse me not having read all 26 pages of posts, so I don’t know if anyone has already posted it, but I’m 99% certain I have just found the reason for the stutter.
I once overread somewhere that force closing all apps fixes the issue temporarily. Well, today I noticed that the keyboard lags when typing a message in WhatsApp and receiving a notification for a different app at the same time. WhatsApp also doesn’t seem to be adapted to the iPhone 12s screen resolution.
Anyhow. I force closed WhatsApp and deactivated background refresh for the app. Boom, iPhone is snappier and the issue seems to be gone.
Hope it helps. Cannot tell if there’s different apps also causing the issue. And sorry if someone already posted that.
I took some time and looked which apps are not yet customized. I have fixed it at the keyboard size. Among others, these are apps like Amazon, Google News - not exactly apps that only a few use. In fact, when I close them, my iPhone 12Pro feels faster too. For me, however, these are apps where either Apple or the developers need to do something quickly, because I won't uninstall them for that reason. I still want to use my phone somewhere.

Hi "I have fixed it at the keyboard size" What does that mean and how did you do that? You mean you can solve the stutter problem by solving the keyboard and apps? Just out of curiosity?

So by that I mean that I have seen from the keyboard size (which is slightly larger in the apps than for example in the Apple internal apps and many other apps from the app store) that they use some module, code or similar, like WhatsApp, which is not optimised for the iPhone 12 Pro. The assumption now is that these apps, when running in the foreground or background, can be responsible for the stuttering. The feeling after a few hours is definitely that since I make sure to close these apps immediately after use and I have deactivated the background update for these apps, the iPhone runs much smoother and feels like it has much less stuttering. I'll keep trying this during the week, but I don't want to say that this is the solution yet. I'd rather verify that for a while longer.

Great! Thank you for your reply, i got your mean now. Hopefully your hypothesis is correct, so we can find the problem as soon as possible, at least we know it's not a hardware problem.

Sorry to burst your bubble but I have background refresh off and still have the stutter.
I also don't think it has to do with the background update, but with apps not being adapted (as mentioned above WhatsApp, Amazon, Google News) to certain iPhone models. If they don't do anything active, be it in the foreground or background, that could be it. But as I said above, maybe it's just my imagination and everything will be different again tomorrow. I will now try not to have these apps active in the background. At least that would explain why some have the stuttering and some don't.

Its definitely sounding like some sort of app issue or combination. Sadly I don't think Apple will fix this and its up to the app developers. This might explained why some see it more than others. I uses WhatsApp all the time. I have almost 300 apps on my phone.

Well four or five days, no stutter. I do use WhatsApp all the time. I am not trying to point out that any theories are wrong.
It’s funny Someone brought a keyboard size to the attention. This is my first iPhone in God knows how many years and the first thing my OCD noticed was the bigger WhatsApp keyboard is in comparison to iOS.
I’m looking at every possible chance to switch to telegram or signal but people just wont switch, dammit.

Side note, Ive started to use Safari instead of chrome and why does it ask me to login pretty frequently to the site? I believe I did put a checkmark to stay logged in.

By the way I do agree with people who say it’s some kind of app issue. Because my stutter came back after months of flawless use when I did install 5+ New apps. Not sure why the stutter is gone now.

We could try and collect all apps that seem to lack optimization and try to find a pattern here. As I said, for me force closing WhatsApp definitely fixed the stutter issue when swiping to go home (it did not fix *all* stutters that generally occurred, but definitely this one and it made my phone feel snappier in general as well). My phone has been running very fine for the last days and only began to stutter whenever WhatsApp was open in the background because I forgot to force close it after use.
I will make sure to force close the Amazon app as well now that I know that it’s also not optimized haha.
So far I haven’t found any other app that lacks optimization but I also don’t have a lot of apps on my phone.

Reddit and 9GAG also seems to be unoptimized.

Just to prevent confusion: by force closing I mean deleting the „page“ in the multitasking view. I did ALSO turn off background tasks in the phone settings for the app, but it seems that this is unrelated to the issue if I see that correctly here.

Do you guys think iPhone 12 uses the iPhone X or 11 size cause “meh, not so different sizes” and developers wont even care to ever fix this since they dont know they are the issue and this forums doesnt get to them?

How can you tell if an app is optimized for iPhone 12? I'm skeptical about this because I had the stuttering issue on my iPhone 11, but I'm willing to try anything.

If you look closely, you’ll see that UI elements are slightly bigger and slightly more pixelated than they usually are. The most easy way to check, however, is to open the keyboard and to compare its size to the keyboard in an Apple App like iMessage. The unoptimized app will have a larger keyboard.

12 hours since update and still no stutter. Runs really well. However I do notice some choppiness in the settings app.
