the dell looks appealing.

i'm getting tired of this limited screen angle on the MBP...

it will definately be fun to hear what spec goes into the new books either tomorrow, WWDC or whenever. i have been without computer now for 1 year (but have a nice bicycle) so anything that is an upgrade to the current line and hopefully properly contemporary internals will make a worthwhile purchase. what will not is the extra 12-15% premium we pay for living in canada (taxes and strong canadian penny)

I think a pound or two difference in weight for laptops is pretty trivial when it's still around or under 5 lbs total. The way I see it, the power brick is where the portability can either shine or suck. Apple has fantastic powerbricks with a great wrap-around hook and cord design with the little cable clasp on the wire itself. Lots of other power bricks rely on the thick cable with the 3-pin plug in order to operate, and don't have the option to attach a simple plug to reduce the cable clutter. Being a student, I have yet to own a mac lappy that outweighed my text books and large multisubject binder :p

This new Dell design is pretty slick (albeit a Sony clone), but this is like comparing a concept car to a production car of the competition.

my Dell D420 just crashed today w/ BlueScreen. Yeah! During an important meeting.
Ha, Ha my company bought me the exact same laptop. The form factor is nice if Apple does do an ultra-portable they should stick to the 12" wide-screen like the D420 rather then the 13.3" MacBook screen. If Apple made it, it would be about 30% thinner then the D420 though.

I keep my personal MacBook with me at all times thought because Windows is a nightmare.

Any new Mac laptop MUST have access to 4GB of ram - sad but true that we need 4GB of ram now.

Ultraportable needs to be sub 4lbs. There are sub 3lb PCs with optical drives!

Apple needs to return to 1999 - let's get removeable drives like the good old black powerbook. Dual batteries, or 1 battery+1 DVD, or 1 battery+2nd HD, or 1 battery+nada for less weight. Swap whenever. This might be less practical on the ultraportable, but it has to be standard on the 17" macbook pro, even if it's just swapping the DVD for an HD.

Then you can go ahead and place your Macbook order today. There will be no completely new case design.
That's not how it works. First I have to see the update, then ridicule it, and only then can I spend hundreds of dollars in a fury of rage! :)

AppleCare is not even close to Dell's warranty most of the times.

I once thought that, until Dell decided to give me the run around within the warranty period when my old inspiron was on the fritz, trying to convince me that it was a software issue that they can fix via remote access. Of course, just a couple of days after the warranty expired, it was determined that the HDD was the culprit, and of course Dell CS, knowing full well that my issue was occurring well within the warranty period, sent me a replacement HDD, but then tried to charge me for it. Took me quite a while to get that matter resolved. Apple, however, has been far kinder to me when my macbook was having hardware woes (RSD), and I had my problem resolved over the weekend, no fuss no muss. I'd take Applecare over whatever Dell has to offer anyday.

almost an inch and a half on the fat end, not very slim. and 4 pounds is a bit bulky. i'd like the option of no optical drive along with the SSD drive.

I just started looking for a new macbook or pro, Because i crashed my macbook hehe. so im thinking about a pro if the videocard gets a nice update. Why is tomorrow the day for the launch? is it just for getting the rumorsites up? What proof is there?
I will never forget the 6months i waited before macbook came out. Next tuesday... next tuesday..... In the end i know it was worth it because an ibook was not an option for that much money. Still most rumors are just based on some logical thinking. Where are those good old days when rumorsites showed hardware months before there release....
Anyway anyone got there hopes on tomorrow?

Apple need to pull their finger out.

But since the announcement of the iPhone, they've let their computer line stagnate, and the competition is catching up.

I hope they pull a large number of impressive looking rabbits out of the hat at the WWDC. For their and for our sakes

Yet Apple's rate of growth is 3 times the PC's market for last quarter? More scare mongering from the people who know it all.

Dear MacRumors please can we stick to news about Apple products.
If this continues then this forum will become seriously diluted and full of opposing fanboys flaming each other.
We surley cannot talk about every product that emerges from every competitor to Apple....even if they are somewhat similar.
Mahalo.

Not all mac fans like living with their heads in the sand.

Whoops my bad. Its .86" thick, not 1.33". THIS THING IS NICE!

From the photos and the specs I think it is shaped like a wedge...

Dimensions with LED 12.5 x 9.4 x 0.87 - 1.33-inches (318 x 238 x 22.1 - 33.8mm) / with CCFL 12.5 x 9.4 x 0.97 - 1.43-inches (318 x 238 x 24.6 - 36.3mm)

So starts off at .87 at the front and then goes to 1.33 or starts at .97 and goes to 1.43. Like a high tech binder!

I see 13.3 Inch Ultra Portable MBP's as well as updated 15 Inch models tomorrow. Both with LED Backlit screens, Santa Rosa etc...

Apple needs to stay competitive with current hardware. Its understandable what they did with the MacBook, but the MacBook Pros do not need to still be using old technology.

Tomorrow will be a good day :D

Exactly ... and how exactly, I wonder, is Apple letting their product line stagnate? Becuase their slightly over in terms of their "standard" update timeframes?

I'll take a "staganate" product line from Apple anyday. Funny how a 3 year old PC looks like it's 10 years old, a NEW Dell looks like it's 5 years old, and yet I just purchased a G3 ibook for my niece, and it hardly looks dated at all ... and it still runs pretty damn well!

Dell has refunded my machines, replaced my machines, repaired my machines, sent me parts for my machines very promptly. I've had onsite services, overnight mail-in services, accidental damage coverage from Dell. Does AppleCare include any of that? I don't think so.

The few times when I need to have AppleCare take care my old Macbook Pro's uneven backlighting, whining, it took them 3 months to complete the entire testing + ordering parts (that along took 1.5 months), repair ordeal. Was the Macbook Pro fixed? Nope.

In that department, I think Dell is superior.

The big improvement is Dell's warranty. Onsite repair and accidental damage coverage vs. Send it into Apple or have the Apple store keep your system for 3+ days and Apple reps laughing at you.

I am a windows user, and I would kill to have a machine like this! I have decided to buy a MBP this june (hopefully after a new revision is released), but this Dell is surely impressive and has caught my attention in a way that no other Windows based laptop has.

It seems as if Dell is the one who is reading MacRumors forum and taking the advice. The entire specifications is exactly what we all want in an MBP... right down to the screen size!

Werd. I'm looking forward to see what they do for an ultraportable. I've been considering a MB, but if a 13.3" MBP comes out for under $1700-1800, I'm going to seriously consider spending the extra cash for one.
