Mac Mini 2.3 Quad -- geekbench probably ~10,700

Here's hoping one can just put 2 hard drives in the $799 model!!!
Two 512G SSD's + 16G ram = killer mini mac pro for ~$1800 !!!!

How about a custom proc upgrade to 2.6 to boot!

How about an SSD + Thunderbolt external RAID? It really could be the mini-Mac Pro. Sweeeeet.

$1699 is bit too much

Even with retina display and lighter weight I would say $1699 is bit too much for 13 inch Retina MBP. It should start at $1399.

Have you seen the insides of the Retina machines?

Take out your Apple care and 256GB and drop it down to a 128GB drive.

That's how.

Does no one else remember that, when the original MacBook Air came out, prices were incredibly high and everyone bemoaned the fact?

It's a new, niche product. Of course the price will be high.

Here we go again with all the self-professed 'Pro's who need more than 128 GB internal storage. I'm willing to put my hand up as one non-video pro who gets along very nicely with a 128 GB internal SSD, and a multi-TB external drive for archives. Then again, I don't download porn torrents overnight, so perhaps I'm just missing out.

Thank you.

Google shopping tells me its not. 128 GB is almost 2 times the price as a 500 GB HDD. On an average. Don't give me random extreme values

On scan.co.uk I can get a 120GB SSD for the same price as a 500GB mechanical HDD. A 128GB SSD is about £15 more expensive than the mechanical HDD.

Yeah, something doesn't add up. If that's really the price, and really the entry storage capacity,

MBA early 2008 60GB
MBA late 2008 120GB
MBA 2009 120GB
MBA 13" 2010 128GB
MBA 13" 2011 128GB
MBA 13" 2012 128GB

The size shouldn't be surprising at.....

However the price dropped along the way for the Air.

Now you can get an Air with a 128GB SSD for $1199.

Bump it to 8GB RAM and it's $1299.

If the 13" RMBP starts at $1699 I'm not sure it will really justify the extra $400. I guess we'll find out all the details soon enough though.

For a $1699 starting price for the 13" RMBP, I would expect at least 256GB flash storage, 8GB RAM, and at the very least a dual core i7.

If the two rumors are accurate re pricing, $1699 for 128 GB is a complete rip-off.

Oh well, doesn't look like I'll be upgrading to a 13" rMBP. No quad-core, no dedicated graphics, base 128gb SDD. Combine that with losing FW, GB Ethernet, ODD or second SDD/HD bay, non-user upgradable RAM or drives. Not worth it to me just having a better screen and slightly simmer and lighter frame for the extra $500.

Sure looks pretty though!

MBA has a slower processor, sub HD monitor, smaller batter, and you can't upgrade the ram.

The 2.5Ghz dual core (Same as in the $1199 13" MBP) should cost Apple about the same as the Ultra Low Voltage chip in the Air.

You can't upgrade the RAM in the Retina Macbooks either.

So you're left with a better display and a bigger battery. Is that really worth $400? I'm not sure.

I feel bad

I now feel bad for all those times I had furious discussions with PC owners on how the Macs were completely worth the premium...

I said it once, I'll say it again, Apple is taking a piss on its consumers (the real ones, not the "Ohh, gimme a mac because it's fashionable nowadays! I'll install W7 right from the beginning because Macs are too complicated to use" ones) with this one..

Call me an Elitist prick, but I do miss the days where people used to buy Macs for it's superior OS, and not because of its prettiness, that even though it was there already, it was just a byproduct of Apple's superiority..

Oh! So you are one of those who think that removing the disk drive is a childs play and requires no engineering whatsoever. And Apple should be making money because of that! Fancy, a disk drive costs about $25-$30. Apple won't give a damn about it. Re-engineering, design and manufacturing is tougher for the kind of product Apple is doing with their new 13" and 15" notebooks. You are funny.

Is that supposed to be a joke?

Have fun paying $1699 for this overpriced piece of garbage. Money well spent for "engineering". LAWLZ!!!

No surprise. Apple is no Walmart. And no one else is making a 13" laptop with that kind of resolution.
